Insidious
(2010)

The most respectable horror movie so far this century
If you, like me, are a fan of the old ways, you should not be disappointed by this movie. Usually when there's a new horror movie the conditions for being scared are nullified from the get-go because of all the irritating traits like "young people who speak in the latest cool way of speaking" and special effects/monsters that could be deemed "wild and crazy". Or, if they're going for a more subtle feel it usually ends up like a goth rock music video or a new age medium TV show.

The somewhat young couple in this movie thankfully act a bit older than they are (at least by today's standards) and help the movie maintain a bit of, if you could use such a word today, "solemnity". It's amazing that it can be combined with the movie actually being really over-the- top in some departments. It's just done with that 70s/80s Italian style, in some way, where you could freak out with themes and still maintain respectability. Mixed with the Asian style of the 90s and early 00s (Ringu etc) where horror is so much magnified due to the down-to-earth tone and lack of Hollywood modernness.

Familjen
(1999)

The best adult movie ever
This movie is the single best source of laughter I've ever possessed in the form of a videotape. Mats (the president of the company) is the most imposing figure I've seen in adult movies, with his strong, clear voice and prominent age. Not many porn actors bother to speak up when they say their lines, but this man delivers with good volume and clarity. He is very trustworthy in his role. All the other characters are secondary except Göran Vänster, the left-wing politician who appeared in many adult movies. He plays an old friend of Mats' and, like Mats, has the personality and carelessness to act beyond the standard formula for a porn actor. Which in simple terms means to say amusing things! As for the sex in the movie, the scenes show variety and are appropriately short. Mostly no need to fast forward. Unfortunately there are many slow-motion ejaculations, but that's something you almost can't escape in these kinds of movies.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
(1979)

Enjoyable but very predictable
This series is fun and somewhat compelling to watch. But in every episode there are recurring incidents which defy any sense of innovativeness: 1. Panels on walls are destroyed. Approximately three per episode. This is done primarily to lock someone in a room.

2. Buck Rogers is deep in enemy territory and uses force to get the job done. 9 of 10 episodes' problems are solved in this manner. If he is captured or wants to free someone, he'll just have to start swinging at the guards and everything will be fine. Never any solutions based on intellect.

3. Buck Rogers is labeled by someone as the most perfect creature in the entire universe.

4. A new woman is introduced and shows immediate affection for Buck Rogers.

5. When they are flying in space, there is no variation from the theme of shooting at other spacecraft, and one hit always means the destruction of the target.

6. Twiki is unable to say anything that isn't deeply annoying.

7. Dr. Huer is very sensible.

8. The shows end with Rogers, Deering, Huer and Twiki eating at Buck's apartment and Rogers is laughing as the frame freezes.

All this aside, it's a good series. Not many dull moments. However, don't watch the episode called "A Blast for Buck", it's just a mixture of various flashbacks from previous episodes, and the real time ending is almost worse than the flashbacks.

Scream for Help
(1984)

I was completely taken aback
I have never seen a movie this extreme. I have never seen characters be so ABNORMALLY straightforward! NOTHING is too sensitive for these persons to say out loud without hesitating. It is just like the director had a plot that would really need a three hour long movie to unfold naturally, but had to speed things up a little.

The characters in this movie aren't really afraid of anything. They just plow through their lives like bulldozers. The main character, Christie, is quite cool. Under normal circumstances, a 16-year-old girl would be terrified most of the movie, and never know what to do. But since this movie has an obligation to speed up the turn of events, Christie is an uncompromising expert at just about everything.

I strongly recommend that you watch this movie. I've watched countless of b-movies, but I was really amazed by this one and its bizarre dialogs. In fact, it's really not THAT amateurish. The overall feeling of competence is, perhaps, like the TV-series "Degrassi High" or something. The director is the same guy who did "Death Wish".

I am still in shock over the fact that this movie exists.

Demoni 3
(1991)

Great for being made late
Although, even if it had been made in 1980, I would still consider it a very good movie. Lenzi manages perfectly to capture the feeling of the worst of the b-movies (which in my world means the best); a sense of the director being completely uninterested in the script; just making the movie because he has to, or working off an idea which he thought was interesting for one day and then just continuing for the sake of it.

The acting and the plot are uninteresting and unimportant. What is interesting is the zombies and the special effects. I don't think I've ever seen real afro-american zombies before, so this was a new exciting thing. They look really frightening and extreme, especially one of them. The deaths in the movie are quite gruesome. I give the movie 9 out of 10 points, for being such a nostalgic shot from the hip. The thing that prevents me from giving it a 10 is that the scenes of dialogue have no charm - and that's because it's from 1991...so no funny men in funny moustaches who say hilarious things.

Desert Heat
(1999)

Great movie
CONTAINS SPOILER!! I was quite astonished when I saw this movie. It is surprisingly politically incorrect and funny: van Damme meets a girl in a bar and they fall in love with each other in a fraction of a second, and later on he rescues two other girls, and ends up having sex with both of them, because they wanted to thank him! In 99% of all other Hollywood-like movies, the hero would turn the girls down, but van Damme is cool and accepts :)))))

Commando
(1985)

2nd best action movie ever
After The Warriors (1979), this is the best action movie I've ever seen (David Patrick Kelly from The Warriors has in fact a role in it). I don't know what to say, it just has it all. It starts off with a close-up of Arnold's biceps as he is carrying a log, and what else can you expect after a start like that, than non-stop fun and action? 10 out of 10!

La mansión de los muertos vivientes
(1982)

I didn't understand it, but I loved it
I watched this movie a couple of years ago; I believe it was in Spanish with no subtitles, but that didn't really matter. What mattered was that it was fantastic! I know 95% of the world's population wouldn't agree with me, but I always had a thing for old sleaze/horror movies which seem to be made just because the director had nothing to do, had had a funny dream he wanted to realize, or that he just needed money.

As for this film, I couldn't understand why the title had anything to do with the action. I only remember some scenes with cloaked individuals walking slowly as though in some kind of procession. And there was a man (Antonio Mayans I believe) talking often to some girls, and there were scenes of various sexual intercourse; although I found the atmosphere in the film very serious and unpretentious.

There is one very interesting scene where a couple of girls are lying on the beach, and suddenly a meat cleaver flies through the air, thrown from a hotel window high above, and lands in the sand just beside them. I was intrigued by that scene, quite intimidating.

Only Franco (Oasis of the zombies) and D'Amato (Porno Holocaust, Erotic nights of the living dead) could make movies with this kind of enchanting atmosphere. A solemn, sombre echo from an era since long lost, which after the forgetful ravages of time still can like the bird of Phoenix rise from the ashes of oblivion to once again let its plumage shine with unprecedented respectability.

Las garras de Lorelei
(1973)

This movie is so good!
This movie is almost as good as Ossorio's blind dead movies (I must add it's even better than Ghostship of the blind dead). It is interesting that it consists of only one man, among many girls. Unusual in films of any genre (except porn).

The two best things about this movie are:

The monster and its attacks. You really get the picture that the monster is VERY aggressive, and the attacks are FURIOUS! Later on, you will also see a kind of sad twist to the monster's entity.

The atmosphere and the setting. There are many intriguing scenes with dreamlike landscapes; a magic and mysterious counterpart to the violence at the mansion.

I give this 10 out of 10.

Rosso sangue
(1981)

One of the best and most brutal movies of all time
People always tend to compare this one with it's predecessor "Anthropophagous the beast", almost always with an outcome of letting this one down....but back in those days it was common for directors to try and make money out of names of previous successful movies....the only similarity here is George Eastman as the killer (George, who is perhaps the best man ever to appear in films). Just drop Anthropophagous and try to see this as a totally detached one. You can read other comments to find out about the plot, here's my personal opinion:

The movie is quite sterile in itself, and Joe D'Amato's characteristic "uninspired" direction is very present. This doesn't make it a worse movie, instead it adds fuel to the sense of the violence in the film going completely over the top.....to its great benefit!! The killings contained in this movie are perhaps the most brutal ever. The only bad things about the movie are that the music score is a little too "stiff" at times, and that the characters are a little too anonymous. But instead of these facts bringing it down to a 9 out of 10, the movie as a whole wipes away all sense of doubt = 10 out of 10

Le notti del terrore
(1981)

Excellent movie throughout the whole running time
It starts off right away. No dull moments. It must have taken a 100 days for 10 people to create these countless multitudes of completely SUPERB zombie masks!! I rank this one as the best movie ever concerning make-up effects (perhaps together with oasis of the zombies). Although the violent isn't very graphic at most occasions, I still see it as just as gory as cannibal ferox or absurd in some way....the music is great, the women look good, the men are respectable, and Michael...is....stunning....

Antropophagus
(1980)

Never ceases to be a cure for boring evenings.
This movie is great. An absolute ten. It could be considered somewhat boring the first part of the movie, but the only time I think of that is when I watch it with friends, and they say "isn't anything going to happen?"...you really should watch b-horror alone or with friends with the same taste. Anyway, the gore scenes in the movie are innovative and well executed. George Eastman is perfect as the beast. The music is awesome too, by the way.

La tumba de los muertos vivientes
(1982)

Great atmosphere, extreme zombies....how come nobody likes it?
I remember watching this movie when i was thirteen years old. Back then i thought it was boring, but now I know you have to watch a zombie movie more than once to fully appreciate it. I bought it a week ago, and have seen it three times since, with ever growing enthusiasm. The zombie make-up is fantastic, so is the music. It doesn't matter if the acting is poor or that the violence is tame. The atmosphere and the totally incredible zombies give this film a special place in my heart forever.
