La vita è bella
(1997)

One of the most moving films you'll ever see.
There are movies that entertain you and there are movies that touch you. This one, Life is Beautiful, does both. Roberto Benigni's character is charming from the start, but over the course of the movie - especially once he and his family are imprisoned - you learn that he's more than just a goofy romantic. His humor is his defense mechanism, shielding not only himself from the horrors around him, but his child as well. This movie will strike a chord in people who don't even normally appreciate foreign films or romances, and for those who do - it's a fantastic ride with a devastating conclusion. Whether you're a brutish toughguy or a hypersensitive milquetoast, keep a box of kleenex handy while watching this stupendous movie.

Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation 1998
(1998)

These collections are not for everyone.
In response to the previous reviews:

Spike and Mike have been throwing animation festivals for over a decade now, and the Sick and Twisted festivals are the best. As previous reviewers have stated, they aren't all gems. Nor are they supposed to be - the S&T festival isn't just a bunch of tasteless shorts slapped together, it's an endurance trial used to weed out the squeamish and limp, so that only those with a true visceral desire to surpass the bounds of taste actually go see them. The VHS and DVD versions of the festivals are a must-own for anyone who appreciates the works for what they truly are - tests. Anyone else will find them ponderous, laborious, and offensive to the very core. Those people are why we have Care Bears and Barney.

Kiss: The Second Coming
(1998)

Expansive documentary of KISS in its original configuration
Fast-paced documentary of KISS from their roots and beginnings thru their reunion and subsequent tours, totally bypassing the dozen years after the band had fallen apart and become a bland 80's hair band. It's an encapsulation of everything that made KISS great, twice. This DVD comes loaded with goodies, and the music will get any classic KISS fan rattling their walker.
