Riverworld
(2003)

it ain't the book
Oh yeah, you know if you have read the very creative series of books by Mr. Farmer, that there are ideas and story snipets from the book, but I couldn't of imagined that the creators of the TV movie would make it so unwatchable to anyone not looking for a squared jaw man or exotic native women. There is so much imagination in the books, I was hoping that this show being on a Science Fiction Channel would try to appeal to a "sharper" audience. There was nothing memorable about the show. I suggest turning off the TV and reading this in the book.

Gramps
(1995)

It's nice to See Andy "loose it" for a change(sm. spoiler)
I love Andy- everybody does- until you meet Gramps! I kept thinking "he couldn't be that bad" but the evidence keeps building until there is no denial. Once again, I watched a time filling movie that had a few good names and a sappy little kid. When I realized this wasn't the typical everything turns out TV happy, I loved it. Refreshing that Mr. Griffith has the (you know)to do a movie that takes is well respected typecast and twists it to this "Gramps" dude. Mayberry would have been far more interesting.

Brazil
(1985)

I can't watch it any more! But I DO!
The first time I saw this movie was in the theater for the first hour and I had to go. Then I had to wait a considerable amount of time. When I finally got to sit down and watch it, I had that feeling one gets when they remember a dream that you had the night before- a scarry dream that you want to remember but it still scares you. I have watched it 4 or 5 times since then with people that have never seen it before. the usual reaction is "it's weird". It Certainly is! and the best example I can find. I am sure this is how the audience that watched Metropolis felt when it was first released. I am no sissy but this movie scares me on so many levels, yet I am compelled to watch it every 5 years or so. There is so much to think about, and it twists your emotions so much that you will be still thinking about it days later. I have learned this is not for everyone- Oh Well.

The Mountain Men
(1980)

Accurate
Good action, and an accurate presentation of how these guys lived. understand that Hollywood taints everything, this is the best I have found so far on the silver screen. Mr. Heston was a bit stiff in his acting, but more believeble than R. Redford in his potrail of a mountain man in Jeremiah Johnson. Violence is graphic and necessary to be accurate. Love scene is corny and just shows kissing. ;)

Jeremiah Johnson
(1972)

Don't be expecting this to be an accurate Mountain Man-
I love the movie, but it didnt accurately present "crow killer" Johnson as tough as he was. R. Redford's good looks saved this picture to me. I wanted to see the person I read about in the Bunter and Thorp book. The movie character was milk-toast in comparison to the real John Johnson. I remind myself that this is made for the general public, and reality might have been too harsh. Scenery was great of Utah- even though the story was in Colorado.

Checkered Flag or Crash
(1977)

Like to watch off road hot-roding?
Good off road racing movie with shallow plot. Always a great rainy Sunday afternoon movie to have on when doing something else. Wish I could find a copy to watch again. Lots of big names when they were young. Still don't expect to find the meaning of life in this flick.

Eight on the Lam
(1967)

Dont expect anything but laughs
My impressions from this movie is, Great Cars, God awful furniture (I wouldn't even offer it to my friends), Clothes are funky, and Humor is timeless!. This a great movie to watch for a time capsule of 1967. Bob Hope is funny (Korny), and J. Winters and P. Diller both do a great job of being weirder than life as supporting characters. Tina Louise sure did a good job as the "hot" babe too. don't expect a complicated story, this is a HAHAHA movie worth seeing

Walkabout Australia
(1996)

Great way to see the outback
Just read the Bill Bryson book on traveling in Australia, and wanted to see what it looked like. This movie (found at my library) did more than show me the outback from a travelers point of view. This movie also showed me the two cultures inhabiting this large country. I am not sure how true to life the people are, cause I have never been there. But it didnt seem too off key in relation too the books descriptions. another plus was the cinamatography was fun. great native critter photography. was worth watching just for these aspects.

Fire and Ice
(1983)

Cool Cartoon
Picked up the movie at the flea market for 4 bucks, sure did get my moneys worth!. Could care-less about the hot babes but the animation just blew me away after a steady diet of Simpsons (Sorry Mr. Groening). The best part, facial expressions. Recommend multiple viewings with some cool tunes, good friends and a couple of cold ones!
