The Last of Us: Left Behind
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 1

Very good, but ...
This episode was great, it was a beautiful miniature in a big drama. In a book or a show with more episodes, it should be part of the story. I also like background information on the main characters, it always helps to understand their motivation and it adds to the world building.

But though shows have more time to tell a story than a movie, it is very limited and the main storyline is so big, that it does not leave much room for sidestories like this or the couple in the third episode.

While in many dystopian settings the world itself with its monsters serves only as a backdrop for pondering the behaviour of people, it is there and should not be ignored. Neither the infected nor the structure of the society played a significant role in this episode. It was just the evening of two young friends exploring their friendship and it was well done. I also liked the acting and the actors.

But although I am very patient and love slow paced shows, I couldn't help but waiting for something to happen, that would push the whole story more significantly.

At the end that happened, but not even by suprise, because we got a glimpse on the bad guy way before he appeared. It was too obvious what would happen.

Nevertheless I love the show and I am looking forward to the next episodes, already dreading the waiting for the next season.

The Chemistry of Death
(2023)

Too fast
I like almost everything about this show - the actors, their acting, camera, music, wow! Also the choice of locations is awesome.

I read the books but I don't want to compare two completely different ways of storytelling. Of course a show or movie is not like the book and the other way round.

But if you have the chance to make a tv show from a novel you should use the opportunity to take your time to tell the story. "Chemistry of Death" is rushed, only two episodes for one book.

And there are way too many flashbacks, that's a bit annoying. Also the main character seems much more depressed and emotional than in the books.
