Welcome to Flatch
(2022)

"The office" goes rural. Skillet tossed & missed.
That's it.

FOX is broken.

Scott is the straight man, go figure.

They demand 150 words minimum to submit a review, blah, blah, blah-blah, blah.

Enough yet?

Law & Order
(1990)

L vs R, the new PC L&O redux came back WOKE.
Dick Wolf should've left it alone. Horrendous writing, formulaic & sad. Uh, you're supposed to start with a positive attitude, but starting with the political discord we see everyday on MSM is sad. Watch the re-runs.

It was bad enough during it's last few seasons with crusading militant Anderson before getting cancelled, but this redux is embarrassing. What were Waterson & Donovan thinking? Bruce Willis would be proud of them, ie... Well I guess it's true about a working actor, at least they're getting a paycheck.

Oh, and if you like this, FBI and it's spinoffs are perfect for you.

Love Type D
(2019)

What's with the soundtrack? WARNING: Good concept, poorly executed.
What started out as a good concept and an interesting plot turned into something boring, tedious and sad.

As if this wasn't enough, the soundtrack half way throught the film (viewed on Amazon Prime) became loud, drowning out the dialog, roughly about the time the storyline started to fall apart.

A waste of talent & casting, why introduce characters if you're not going to use them?

This movie could have been real good, but derailed shortly after the concept got put into place.

On a final note regarding the rating tally, how do 4 reviews (38/40) equal 5 stars, or did no one bother to write a review?

Stargirl
(2020)

Season 1 was good. Should've quit while ahead.
You ruined Superman, and now Green lantern. Not sticking around to see how you can ruin Starfire any further. Episodes recorded on my DVR are going in the trash.

Waste of actors & money. Shame.

Teens aren't this stupid or irresponsible, and if your kids are like this I feel sorry for them. It's your fault.

Death in Texas
(2020)

Could've been a lot better. W/D should stick to writing.
Good story, but directed & paced like molasses in winter. If you're afraid to do action scenes, don't, it would have been better off to skip them and have them explained by a character after the fact. It's much easier on the audience than doing what was done here and make those watching suffer through the stupid blurred out, unbelievable and illogical scenes.

A waste of a talented cast as Dern was too over the top and Bogomil just looked so bored so they were directed like half the cast didn't want to be there.

To many cliches re how the main character can take pain, especially since half the time he looks like he's suffering from constipation and the other just like he's not even there.

The exception to the film was Lang & Boyle, both did a good to great job in their interaction/sentimental exchange, it's for them that the rating was 2 more stars than deserved.

To those saying this was the best thing since sliced bread, grow up or i hope you got paid well.

The Brass Teapot
(2012)

Incredibly... Up & down, and Up. Wash, rinse, repeat.
A modern day trainwreck. You know you shouldn't but you watch anyway.

If the writer could stop getting high, they could have made a classic, but they opted to be stupid, just like they made their characters and the plot, inconsistent and immature.

This is the trend of new comedies, take a good concept, have unlikeable, obnoxious characters, use good talented actors badly and make everything good at the end to give the audience that warm fuzzy feeling like everything worked out and they saw fantastic story/film.

The Problem was there were moments I hated this film and almost gave up, but I held tight, but then it happened again, along with cliches from bad teen movies.

Sad, what this could have been, as I said, a classic.

Pig
(2021)

Rough start, but worth a watch.
One of the better of the recent Cage films I've seen although it starts like it was filmed amateurish with poor lighting and cinematography, but it corrects itself all at once as the film progresses.

The photography, and acting get better as the dialog increases and I ended up liking this film.

I don't know if this rough start was done on purpose or to set a mood of dismay, but that's why I didn't think it a better film. You should not have to start with a cheap shot to make the ending look good,. ( if you have to resort to than maybe you didn't think your project was good enough to begin with.) I see this in a lot of modern "comedies."

Sad.

Out of Death
(2021)

Not even good enough for one ⭐!
You can make a drinking game out of this POS. A shot for every mistake or flaw in logic and at least you'll be too messed up to care, and that'll be within the first 25 mins if that.

After that just FF to not endure it's full length, you won't miss anything.

Horrible.

How they gave this more that 2 ⭐ is beyond me.

This is even worse than the worse of Nick Cage's films and there have been some really bad ones.

Is Hollywood in debt or were these guys just overextended when covid hit and loans are being called in?

I won't bother you with spoilers, too late.

Black Widow
(2021)

Meh!
I never thought I'd say this about Marvel movie, but "meh." It just didn't come together, and not due to the talent as I've seen most of these actors in other roles where they were very good, but this just didn't work.

The acting felt forced as did some of the action & story. A waste of time and $$$.

Some parts were downright boring, especially with the heavy accents and depressing "Russian" back story & dialogue where I almost fell asleep. Hannah, Red Sparrow, or Anna as female assassin film were better, and worked, this didn't.

One more thing, what's with the costume changes, it's like either you wear regular clothes or you have a uniform, but to have different uniforms for every other or different scenes or parts of the movie?

It was the same with the unlimited supply of vehicles, like are these stolen or do you just rent them or what, out of nowhere?

The devil is in the details, however the movie seemed like a copy of bits and pieces of the previous movies without detail, or a bad Bond film without any charisma.

Not worth a 2nd viewing unlike all previous Marvel movies, this was barely worth a single.

Oh, and the teaser at the end was just sad!

Without Remorse
(2021)

No. Unless you want to waste your time watching one bad cliches after another.
"What are you going to do now John?"

I (as a movie goer) suggest not coming back.

This had all the makings of being a good film, if that consist of oodles of $$$, talent, actors, special effects people, etc.

Somehow the director, writer(s), soundtrack, & main actor couldn't get out of their own way. No detail, things happen miraculously between firefights and without logistics. You can judge that for yourself, if you dare, but you're time would be better spent watching anything by Neenom, or Reeves, or watching any Clancy or Borne movie over again.

😢but true Summed up in one word, predictable.

Don't Breathe
(2016)

I don't usually, but yes!
As said, I don't usually go for this genre of movie but it was recommended to me by my brother who said it was worth watching.

He was right.

I don't usually care for the horror/slasher type movies but this is one of the best and most enjoyable movies of that type that I've ever seen as I usually find them hokey and kind of predictable but this one actually was well filmed, directed, written and at the same time perplexing as some scenes surprised me in trying to figure out how they got the timing down perfectly & how they were filmed.

Even if you don't like this type of movie it's well-worth watching.

And a sequel is forthcoming!

The Saddest Music in the World
(2003)

Yikes!
Comedy?

Must be a cultural thing.

If I had to describe this, I'd have to say a surreal musical, fantasy-tragedy with weird sexual overtones that obscures all of the mentioned genres as they overlap one another. Harshly.

I had to stop the video in the middle to read the reviews to see if I was missing something.

As close as I can figure, I saw some movies in the 70's by Jodorovsky(Sp), which were as close to this in the "weird" aspect.

I didn't get those either, but maybe I'm not your "artsy-fartsy" type of moviegoer. Or maybe being "high" on anything would help.

Swiss Army Man
(2016)

<0...Oh my. Just don't. You've been warned.
I read a review re the "film" and I use the term lightly, from a person saying this movie brought him or her to tears and summed it up by saying he or she identified with this movie at this time/juncture in his life. I'm not being flippant or cruel, but if you watched this and feel that way, go get some professional help.

FBI: Most Wanted
(2020)

How many stereotypes can you cram into an hour...
About half way into it I was thinking maybe episode #2 would be better as so far the show was nothing but pandering to every stereotype cop show and situation I have ever seen, all in less than 30 minutes. Being a retired, ex-policeman, and avid TV and movie buff, I've seen a lot of cop/crime fighting oriented productions and situations but upon getting to the predictable ending I don't think this show deserves my time for a 2nd look or viewing of episode 2. The original "FBI" is barely tolerable and enough time spent turning off my brain during the week for that hour. I keep hoping that gets better too. But this show had no nuance, and was an example of flagrant predictable crap. This is insulting to the viewer. The characters were superficial and in the first show you already gave too much info on their quirks and dysfunctions which they brazenly air in public, no less. Although I've seen several of the actors in other shows where I've like them and they do good to great work, they're not the problem here, it's the writing. Pee-eew! A word of advice, stop trying so hard, quantity is not as good as quality and ease into development of the personalities as these people were simplistic and cartoonish and I already don't like them or their dysfunctions. Then again, dumbing down may works for the general public... ie. look at L&O: SUV, NCIS:NOLA... a lot of good actors..., wasted, but that crap is still on. Who knows maybe you've got a hit?!?

Disturbing the Peace
(2020)

Yikes! Just say "no" and it was "Disturbing."
Waste of time, effort and money.

Sounded good on paper, based on the description and it could have worked as far as the plot, but just fell apart in the screenplay, flow, acting, delivery, execution and details in the production.

There was no "purpose" for the story and/or to have made the film unless maybe as a tax write off as a loss.

I saw it for free on a movie/cable channel (St**z) who should have paid me for my time.

The Rookie
(2018)

Season 3 it turned into Gray's Anatomy from 5 years ago.
ABC turns winners into losers.

Why?

Cost? PC? Woke? Or is it mental illness.

Are Game shows more cost effective?

Or is this LA post-Covid?

Or do they just hate entertainment?

Sniper: Ghost Shooter
(2016)

Read all the 5-7 star reviews and you got it pegged.
A fair supporting cast doing a mediocre job for a very stiff main carachter.

The" love" interest angle was awful as it didn't make sense as does part of the plot but you realize the reason for the 1st half while watching the rest of it. It was just poorly planned, or written and directed. It fought itself.

The movie only comes together during the 2nd half, if you get that far, as technically the gunplay doesn't make sense either, that is if you have any military or police experience, so make sure to turn off your brain (or have a very strong alcoholic beverage so you don't care.) Remember to turn on the 'closed caption' at the beginning otherwise you won't get any of the dialog as the loud ethnic music drowns out the speaking parts and you spend most of the movie thinking 'wtf did he just say?' Oh, and the main carachter speaks with clenched teeth which doesn't help his dialog and it comes off forced and uncharismatic, instead of tough. Haysbert and Zane, and the foreign counterpart assigned to the team are what hold the film together but I couldn't refrain from thinking throughout the whole thing that I could have been watching reruns of "the unit" and had a better time.

The Upside
(2017)

Surprisingly enjoyable, after it gets past the rough start.
I like the cast, with the exception of Hart*, as his character starts out stereotypical & single dimensional as the angry black man, a role I've seen him play many times before. *But after you suffer past his introduction and the film's story takes off, things get better. A lot better and he shows his chops as an actor. I saw this sight unseen, no reviews read, fresh, as I like to see most movies. After watching it, prior to writing this, I saw that it's a remake, apparently of a French film, to which some of the critics elude as being much better. Regardless, I liked the story, the acting was good, kudos to Cranston & mousy Kidman who pull the piece together. I feel this is a movie is worth watching and recommending. Maybe I'll see the french version some day.

The Doorman
(2020)

Jean you've pulled a Bruce.
No. Just don't. Heroine is awful, flat. Characters are unlikeable, including her. Completely predictable plot. Don't waste your time. Watch anything else by Jean. Cold Blood is a good option.

Primal
(2019)

The parents guide/content rating should include bad movie.
Who writes this crap and why? A better question is how did anyone back it. Was this like "The Producers?" a scam investment scheme? Or maybe a write off or money laundering? That could make for a better movie. The "making of Primal."

As to the movie, I watched it on demand for free on Dish. Not original, or fun and an on-going unnecessary stream of cliches you've seen before. This is one of those movies that trys to fulfill the action/thriller/government agent gone wrong films without doing any of it well, no explanations or background. Stuff just happens, badly. The characters are unlikeable as well as stupid AND illogical, making it worse. Plenty of over-acting or sub-par, unemotional(Famke) acting. (Some mentioned a face-lift) Poor film/video and lighting. This one has plenty of blame to go around. If you have the option of anything that's seems better, even remotely, take it.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
(2019)

Yikes!
Predictable. Slow. A waste of talented actors in unlikeable roles, except for Tom Hanks who although he gives an excellent portrayal, is lost in a lackluster story.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley
(2019)

Painful to watch, annoying soundtrack.
OMG, I've watched a lot of shows associated to true crime. This is one of the worst documentaries I've ever seen. It was like picking up a fashion magazine in the dentist's office and finding only pictures. Glamour shots of the same model over and over again, and of the 200+ pages, the cover story is hidden away somewhere but there aren't numbers. When you finally find the story, it is 4 paragraphs long, when one would have sufficed and that one hardly says anything. The model is a self absorbed sociopath. (Hint) Then you go in to see the dentist and don't care if he pulls all your teeth. That would be less painful then watching this "movie" or documentary because I'm not sure what I should call it. The music seems like it's from a fairy tale film for children, and it becomes tedious and annoying after the first 5 minutes. Redundant and repetitious however it goes through to the end with minor variations and it's almost like fingernails on a chalkboard during serious parts therein. The investors mentioned in this film as the people that fell for the scam either have money to throw away or too much trust in others that have that much money, because they must live in a fairy tale or bubble. Oddly, I found the story and the director's take on it flippant since it was highly criminal and dangerous to the public, but the story doesn't go into any of that, which would have made for a better documentary.

Owen Benjamin: Huge Pianist
(2018)

Just shy of perfection! LOL funny!
I've seen a lot of stand-ups, both recorded and in person. Frequently attending the Punch Line and Cobb's in SF during the Stand-ups heydays from the mid 80's to 2000. After watching Benjamin's routine in this and his other recorded shows, this is worth watching several times. This guy is funny and this show's filming, timing, and production was almost perfect.

The Report
(2019)

Worth watching, check your politics at the door...
As a movie goer I commend the writer-director for bringing the story to the screen in an interesting and entertaining way.

The main character's ordeal, well played by Driver, could be looked at as a boring, overwhelming and tedious, based on my experience as an investigator who has dealt with a huge on-going, and complicated situation or investigation. But Driver and the director did a great job in showing the characters frustration and angst in dealing with the burden of bringing the truth to light.

The basis for the investigation, however, is not something to be taken lightly and the writing enforces the ideal. Abuse of power, both on a smaller and larger scale as depicted throught out the film, never is, and those covering up those abuses are no less guilty then the perparrators or enablers, themselves.

Regardless to which side you "lean", in this situation no "side" was innocent. And the inhumanity portrayed was an embarrassment (stain) to all involved as well as the lack of accountability after the truth was revealed.

Kudos to the supporting cast for their portrayals in making the film work.
