The Woman King
(2022)

A story with no purpose
The plot is highly confused and does not know which direction it wants to head to. You have forced storylines of love, self-discovery, struggle, revenge, etc which just makes one convoluted mess of a movie.

Background score is quite average too. The trailer is the only thing that was interesting about this movie.

Sadly this is one I regret watching.

PS: What's with IMDb requiring 600 characters for a review. I'd like to keep it short and crisp and not planning to enter an essay-writing competition. So these are just filler lines I'm adding to reach the ridiculous character limit. Hope they review this stupid rule.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part One
(2022)

A massive waste of Talent!
What could have been India's Game of Thrones is made into an ambiguous, convoluted mess. The screenplay is partly to blame but the direction is utterly poor.

Scenes which are supposed to convey how smart and adept Vanthiyathevan is, is shown like a comedy sequence. In fact, almost all scenes with Karthi involved is made to look like a comedy movie.

Why Jayaram's role is key to the story and how he is well known is not clear at all. The same goes for multiple characters who can be introduced in a whim, on screen.

While the movie has a 150 minute run time, this is a case where the audience wouldn't have minded a 180 minute runtime with more depth into the characters and story.

The action scenes have 3 set-pieces which are repeated. In fact the battle scenes could have been avoided altogether as there was nothing to see in those.

What could have been a masterpiece in more capable hands becomes just a massive waste of talent!

Amateurish
The director's first movie and it looks so - screenplay looks like some randomly conceived scenes put together, poor editing where scenes transition and end abruptly, poor character development.

The entire plot revolves around 2 sentences of research done by the screen writer. Had the promise to be much better but ends up an amateurish attempt.

Hit-Monkey
(2021)

Childish plot with a linear, predictable storyline
Wasted my time on this after seeing the reviews here. The plot is so immature - hardly any thought process has gone into it. Plot holes are numerous. Hardly entertaining with a highly predictable storyline.

Haseen Dillruba
(2021)

A study on how not to write your characters for screen!
Haseen Dillruba is a simple story - nothing new, nothing exciting.

However the biggest problem it has is that the characters are written like chameleons - they change every scene. There is no consistency in how a person's character is portrayed.

It was an utter waste of time. Kahaani still remains the best suspense thriller Bollywood has produced.

Tell Me Your Secrets
(2021)

Aiming for average but falls short of that too!
The show has a lot of flaws - editing, incoherent screenplay and so on, but the biggest of them is that the character development and depiction of event timelines is appalling. I continued through the end of series to just get it done and then realised I should have stopped after episode 3 when I realised that this was going to be an absolute waste of time.

Your Honor
(2020)

A weak end to a strong series!
The first nine episodes do build up the very many ways in which Michael Desciato gets tangled in the spiders web only to be totally let down by the finale, where things happen at random to give a bittersweet ending that doesn't play well with logic.

Special OPS
(2020)

Another mediocre series being hyped
Bad acting, bad editing, unengaging screenplay and random show motion shots - I could not continue beyond episode 1. Asur was way better compared to this and I hated Asur.

Archenemy
(2020)

A basic predictable storyline with no character development building
The only novel thing where time was spent on during the brainstorming process is the premise. Everything around it seems to be rushed to get a movie in time. Sadly, it's not an enjoyable watch - I finished it since I started it.

Waste of time
The movie starts well and then we see a lot of badly edited shots put together by a purely written screenplay to introduce the characters. Then we see some random events taking place while trying to maintain a link of the characters to the main story line and then we hit the 90 minute mark where the film runs out of screenplay. The director then weaves a loose concoction if another 75 minutes, half of which is filled with songs which sound like they've been a part of numerous other movies. At the end of it all, I realise I've wasted almost 3 hours on a weekday and that I cannot give below 1 star. The extra star is for Rajkumar Rao and Fatima, coz that is the only segment that was interesting.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
(2020)

Absolute waste of time
The movie starts off well but anything that's funny about the movie takes place in the first 10 minutes. After that the movie is just a bad editing of poorly planned scenes together. The first movie was amazing but subsequent moviefilm reaches greater heights - Not!

Home Before Dark
(2020)

Solid 5
The storyline has a lot of plotholes and random discoveries which are found 30 years later. Some characters and relationships are so shallow and come up randomly when you least expect it and disappear. The mom, played by Abby Miller, is one of the most useless and irritating characters. I don't remember seeing Abby Miller prior to this and would prefer not to see her work again after this. Mostly this series is a waste of time and is quite passable.

Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side
(2020)

Plotholes galore!
Mediocrity is celebrated by the mass and this is another example.

Those loving this show mustn't have seen or mustn't have liked 'Family Man', the best Indian TV series yet.

This one is just a poor concoction of a few pre-visited plots. And what's with the camera angles of the attack on the first victim? No one suspected the involvement of 2 people with those wonderful camera angles in the evidence video? Lol!

Long live mediocrity!

Traffic Ramasamy
(2018)

Half-baked attempt
Shoddy direction and sloppy editing spoil this movie, where the screenplay looks like it's written by a school kid. Random actors pop up during critical scenes and disappear - the director thought it would be a novelty.

The biography of Mr.Ramasamy has enough content to make a social impact.

This movie is a very bad attempt.

Please don't waste your time in this.

Black Panther
(2018)

The usual story with some cool African accent and African beats!
Everyone praised 'Black Panther' and said it was different compared to other run of the mill superhero movies that are aplenty in the recent times (barring 'Spiderman Homecoming').

Well, 'Black Panther' is the same run of the mill superhero movie. Period!

The only interesting bits are the cool African accent of the English language and some interesting African beats accompanying an otherwise mundane and uninspired, mostly EDM BGM.

Not worth watching!

Talaash
(2012)

Mesmerizing from the start
Let me start with the best thing about this movie - its haunting background score. Ram Sampath has done an awesome work on each frame making the film noir feel settle into you right from the title track.

The second best thing is Aamir Khan - I would say that Aamir is the best actor, currently, only next to Kamal Hassan.

The story - There are two plots here. The main plot is where Inspector Surjan investigates the mysterious death of a celeb - a quite suspenseful plot on its own. However the main plot would not have been as effective if not for the subplot, which builds the premise for the climax of the movie.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui - One of the emerging fine actors, is an integral part of Talaash and has done a fine work. In fact the best sequence in the movie in one involving Nawazuddin in a local train.

Crisp editing and wonderful direction add to the quality of the movie. And then there's Kareena Kapoor, who has not overdone her role in the movie. One of her finest performances.

This is one of those movies which raises the quality of Indian cinema. Go for the movie without any expectation or any knowledge of the story to enjoy it.

Do not read the FB posts revealing the climax of the movie or the other reviews of people who think that there is no logic in "certain" genre of movies.

Aayitha Ezhuthu
(2004)

Better than its Hindi version
Aayitha Ezhuthu is yet another class-A movie from Mani Ratnam. And please note that it is not a remake of the Mexican movie 'Amores Perros' as said by another user. If you had seen amores perros and understood the movie, you'd come to know that aayitha ezhuthu is completely different from it. There are many movie with the same theme - an incident making the characters meet, for eg. 21 grams which was released in 2000, long before amores perros concept was even conceived. So shall I call Amores perros a shameless remake of 21 grams - remove the authenticity, good actors, change the theme and voila!!! u get Amores perros???
