You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment
(2024)

Sounded Interesting in Theory
As a retired registered dietitian this program sounded incredibly interesting to me. And in theory it was, if it would have stuck with following the twins. Episode one was great with all of the scientific information on diets and background on the twins. Episode two quickly evolved into a pro-vegan, anti-dairy industry, anti-meat industry, climate-change propaganda hit piece. And what did Sen Corey Booker have to do with any of this? Or NY Mayor Adams, other than the fact that he switched to a vegan diet and was able to get off of his diabetes meds? Great for him but it would have been more interesting if he had a twin for comparison, since the program was supposed to be about twins. I fast forwarded through episodes two and three and skipped to episode four to find out the results on the twins, but I fast forwarded through much of that as well. If a vegan diet is your thing then go for it.

Great Series!
I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but I loved this series and I hope that there is a season two. After having watched the series I decided to go back and read the book on which it was based. Very loosely based I might add. Now after finishing the book I can honestly say (in my opinion) that this is one instance where the tv adaptation was better than the book. The initial book storyline was there (involving the ubiquitous Russians), but the series' storyline was fleshed out quite a bit more and had a dual storyline involving the vice president's daughter. I must say that having watched the series first I did picture Gabriel Basso in my mind as I was reading, even though he is 6" shorter than book Peter.

FBI: Most Wanted

Too Many Political Episodes
I've been watching this show from the start and read the other reviews from time to time. Others don't seem to like Dylan McDermott because of his previous villain roles. I have never seen any of those other roles so have nothing to compare this one too. I have to admit that I like the Remy character much better than Jess, he's not as brooding and morose as Jess was. I am not a big fan of Julian McMahon and kept seeing Dr Christian Troy from Nip/Tuck.

So now with the new season the other male agent "left to be with family". Why do they keep getting rid of the other male agents? Hopefully the producers will wake up and bring on another male, because right now it looks like the FBI version of Charlie's Angels with Remy and his three Angels. And please, please, please, stop with the political themed episodes already! What's next? The raid on Mar-a-Lago?

Stop Comparing it to the Movie!
I'm not sure what's with all of the bad reviews, but I found it totally worth watching. After reading many of those reviews, it appears that many are comparing it to the movie of the same name, of which it bears no relation to at all, other than it's a Mickey Haller story. It is not a remake, it is based on book #2 in the Mickey Haller series, The Brass Verdict. Also many of the negative reviewers apparently have never read any of the books, but it does follow the book fairly closely. Is it as good as the Amazon Bosch series? No, but it stands up under its' own merits and comparing it to Bosch is like comparing apples and oranges. Mickey Haller is not Harry Bosch. What is unfortunate is that it wasn't done on Amazon so that there could have been a Bosch crossover and truly followed the source material.

The lead actor does a decent job as Mickey and should stop being compared to Matthew McConaughey. He does fit the role better because Mickey's mother was a Mexican actress, but the actor's slight Mexican accent is a little off-putting. After all, Mickey is a native Angelino. For those who complain that the legal aspects aren't real enough, if you want more reality, watch Court TV.

All in all it's an enjoyable series and I look forward to season two.

Bonanza meets Dallas meets The Sopranos
After hearing raves about this show I had a chance to watch it. Kevin Costner is John Dutton, patriarch of a mega-ranch in Montana with three sons and a daughter, every one of them dysfunctional. After watching season one it's easy to see why.

If you think Costner is a Ben Cartwright clone, think again. He's more like Don Vito Corleone; Papa Dutton controls everyone and everything in the state, while his kids are more Dallas soap opera like. Oldest son Jamie is the family attorney with no backbone, bailing everyone out of constant trouble. Middle son Lee doesn't make it past the first episode, so his story is never told. Youngest son Kayce has major anger issues and hates his father enough that he and his Native American wife live on the reservation. Daughter Beth, the most unlikeable villainess, is an alcoholic with mommy issues who never emotionally matured. Then there is the ranch's majordomo Rip, aka the Enforcer. He helps get rid of Dutton's enemies or anyone who ever done him wrong. Once you're in the family or work on the ranch you never leave, at least not alive.

I find it hard to believe that any successful ranching operation of that magnitude would be so dysfunctional. If you don't like violence, every swear word in the book and sex, this show is not for you. So far I've made it through season one; I'm not sure I'll go any farther.

Leave the Politics Out
Could CBS's leftist political leanings be any more obvious? This show was good in the beginning seasons but has really hit the skids. When Missy Peregrym's character refers to the summer's riots as protests, that was it for me. See ya FBI.

Homeland
(2011)

Incompetent CIA Agent
I just started bingeing this show and if Carrie Mathison is an example of female CIA operatives then this country is in deep doo-doo. I get that she has a mental disorder, but she's irritating as heck, way too emotional for a spy, and a loose cannon. How she stayed alive through 8 seasons is one of the mysteries of life. I'm halfway through season 2 but I'll stick with it to see what develops.
