Not Cinderella's Type
(2018)

A Cinderella Type Movie that is More Realistic - Worth Seeing
I highly recommend this movie. I am a professional in this area and do not want to give spoilers, but I recommend it. It is very truthful and realistic to real life - relationship health, friendship health, boundary health, etc., while including a story, younger romance, and friendship, but also family. Great acting, plot, and ending. It shows real life experiences with family, friends, relationships, and the result of how the brains of victims of abuse and trauma have been shaped, groomed, and unfortunately react accordingly, without understand that their life is not normal or healthy. In the end, a child should always have this type of smile.

The Santa Box
(2020)

Truthful, Creative, All-Family Christmas Movie
This is such a welcoming Christmas movie that I would put number one on the family Christmas movie list to watch every year. The actors were superb, including the setting, and of course, the storyline, which had a unique plot that kept your attention as if we were in the movie. Such a strong and realistic storyline with teens and families, including the Christmas spirit.

From adults to teenagers, this movie clearly shows how the behavior and feelings among teens are affected by the adults who are in their lives. It will keep the entire family interested, as both adults and teens will relate to the storyline. I highly recommend this movie. I saw it last year and am happy I found it again this year and will watch it again. Spread the word and take the time to watch The Santa Box (2020). Truthful, creative, all-family Christmas movie.

The Scream Team
(2002)

Great Halloween Family Movie - Despite the Goofy Cover and Title
Great Halloween Family Movie! Despite the goofy cover and title, seemed to turn me off, but I am so happy I watched it. It is much better that the title and cover looks. Nice plot. True to life story behind the family traditions and learned experiences, but with a great mystery and Halloween theme. I rank this 10 because of the storyline, acting, special effects and setting. I loved how the child actors and adult actors had their own view that kept the story together. Acting was great, visual and audio was fantastic. Especially with surround audio system. It has subtle scary parts for younger viewers. Great family film. Even though I have seen this a few times, it is a great Halloween movie to bring in the season.

Ghost Squad
(2015)

Great family and teen movie around Halloween
I just came across this movie. Great little storyline. Loved the setting. The special effects, and story from start to finish. I do not want to say to much, but loved about the story, but great to see smaller younger boys and one with a crush to overcome bullies and come out on top with a ghostly theme. It is a great family movie for all ages. The scares are creative, not to scary for younger ones. But enough for Halloween for older teens. The special effects, themed music, and actors were believable, like you were there. It is great to see adults, remember what it is like to be a young teen. Something for adults to learn as well. Again, with a cool Halloween theme. I highly recommend this movie.

The Wonderful World of Disney: Tower of Terror
(1997)
Episode 6, Season 1

A film filled with mystery, creativity and intrigue, perfect for Halloween night - great for families as well
I came across this movie on YouTube around 2012. Ever since I first saw it, it has been my all-time favorite movie around Halloween. Despite seeing it over and over each year, I reserve this move for Halloween night as my favorite. This film has such an amazing story, even after watching it over and over. It is full of clever mystery and storytelling that keeps you on your seat, wondering what will happen next. It is modern day but yet filled with history to heighten the mystery and story. As you watch, you think you know, but then things change, and makes you want more. This move never seems to get old. No cheap and easy blood and guts, chainsaws or cheesy masks, just full-on spiritual mystery that will keep your attention. It is perfect during Halloween time. Especially on Halloween night as a tradition. This movie tops it all. A true mystery, with thought and creativity went into this movie. And even after you have seen it this year. Next year around Halloween, come back. It is still creative and filled with surprises. A great family film around Halloween as well. From the storyline, to filming, to the actors, I rate this 10 of 10. Don't miss it! And Happy Halloween!

The Canterville Ghost
(1996)

A captivating story one should not miss
I came across this movie and happy I watched it. In the beginning, it seemed aged, but I am happy that I kept watching, because you are brought into a captivating story from past to present. The acting, special effects, and filming is realistic and excellent. The storyline was exquisite from beginning to end. It keeps you on your seat, not knowing how the next scene might end. I had studied and University of Oxford and love Shakespearean performances and historical facts. This film included such expertise with a modern twist to meet the story plot. It is a great family film, not to be missed. Turn down the lights and see for yourself. I highly recommend it from start to finish.

Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket
(2016)

Mystery, spiritual, great teen and family movie
This was such a fantastic movie. I have been to Nantucket several times and love the history. This film made you feel like you are in Nantucket. The storyline keeps you interested, and it is unknown of what is next. The acting, filming and special effects helped to bring the movie to life and made you feel like you were part of the emotions and excitement. Bailee Madison is an excellent and perfect actress for this role. Overall, the actors with their individual roles helped to bring the magic alive. I highly recommend this film for families, children, and teens. There is so much magic to life and often legends can make it seem like they can come true. Great movie!

H2O: Just Add Water
(2006)

Magical, attention getting, never miss an episode
I just discovered this show recently and would watch many episodes because you want to know what is coming up next. After surfing, it has been my go-to show. Interesting with the research that I do regarding passive aggressive behaviors, that they did a great job incorporating. I will not way more to spoil anything.

The storyline had such a great theme, with history, yet magical that seemed realistic. The filming and effects where reflective of each scene. The acting was intensive and realistic.

Overall, I loved the show. It was exciting, realistic, had a great storyline. All the way to the ending. Don't miss!

Blue Water High
(2005)

Loved every episode of Blue Water High
As a surfer, I loved Blue Water High. The first two seasons were my favorite, because the first few episodes of season three, I did not like how it was written and the Blue Water staff actors. But overall, at the end, those actors did a fantastic job. I am glad I watched every episode. If you have been to private camps, even college, graduate school or retreats, it is something your moment experiencing that environment is a characteristic of your life, from, fun, hard work, crushes, and learning of yourself. Blue Water High did a great job mirroring this. I wish there were more episodes, or a feature film. Hint, hint!

Blue Crush
(2002)

I love this movie!
I love this movie. I grew up surfing in southern California and this movie rocks! I love it. Great filming, music and storyline. It gets me in the mood, and every season gives me a boost to ride. The music and action is great along with the surfing. They did a great job with surf culture.

All Relative
(2014)

Great movie. True life experiences.
This is a great plot, filming and acting. It is a great example of how life experiences and choices have consequences, and how we must learn, accept and be honest about those consequences to e able to live onward.

I highly recommend this film. We can learn about relationship choices and our own behaviors.

Life as We Know It
(2010)

In the beginning I thought no, but yes continue to watch its worth it
This film has an interesting storyline, which can mirror real life. It shows what could happen, the unknown when change occurs, in how we respond or react. Only to eventually come to grips. Drama, but some funny parts. Sad parts as well.

I highly recommend this. But again, in the beginning you might think not, but continue, it is defiantly worth the watch.

Lea to the Rescue
(2016)

Enlightening!
This is an enlightening film of American Girl. Great for older children and families.

It has a wonderful story with a situation that is unfortunately true in real life. The most remarkable is seeing two children from different worlds and cultures unite, share, experience and become together.

The storyline was not predictable and keeps you interested. Overall I greatly recommend this for families. And the character Lea are those hero's that we need to protect animals and cultures for future generations.

Secrets of Sulphur Springs
(2021)

Intriguing. Amazing. You will watch every episode!
I watched the first episode after dinner tonight. It was so intriguing. Every moment. Then onto the next episode. Ok so now I have watched the entire season of episodes 1-9 on Disney Plus in 3.5 hours. I really cannot wait to see episode 10 and more. I just want to keep watching. It is worth it. I might watch the entire series tonight. Seriously.

It has an amazing storyline, acting, music, and filming. It makes you want to know what is happening next. The child actors are amazing as well.

As a cognitive neuroscientist, it also exhibits parents who, while they love and care for their children, they cope in ways that can be reflective of unresolved issues, making them behave in ways that do not validate (not listening or supporting) their child. Parents, deal with your past and be honest to your child. Or it likely will come back to haunt you. Resolve your issues, for your child's sake. It will make you feel better. I will use this as an example in my parenting classes. And by the way, something else you will learn, never "ground" your child. They do not learn from it. There are other ways to teach by example. This is not a spoiler, but rather something to keep in mind as you watch any film. This series is just more interesting. A lot more interesting.

Overall, I highly recommend this family series.

Chestnut: Hero of Central Park
(2004)

Awesome & cute 'keeps you on the edge of your seat' family movie
This is a wonderfully acted out and well filmed movie. From the beginning to the end, it brings you into the film. Nor was it predictable. The actors, including child actors were amazing, not to mention the dog. The movie includes laughter, suspense, fear, sadness, high emotion, and so on. What the move all the way through. You will be happy you did.

The actors who played the parents in this film, were the model of two healthy parents that validate and allow their children to express themselves and learn at their own pace. By allowing this, eventually formed a natural, loving and caring bond within the family network. Something that everyone can learn from.

Jurassic School
(2017)

Different than expected, quite entertaining & learning opportunity
I thought the storyline was great. You never really knew what you were going to expect.

The filming and actors were great as well. However ok the main dinosaur, well when close up, let's just say they should not have zoomed in so close. Other than that it was great.

It is a learning experience as well to show children what they can do, but also for parents to really engage with their child. Allow them to explore, while encouraging, validating and motivating them. And children and teens, need to also have support, because it is unfortunate that there are adults and other students that might not be in your best interest.

Overall, I recommend this movie for families and for anyone wanting a different type of movie.

Beautiful Beast
(2013)

Truthful, true to life in many ways
This is a great movie, so true to life in many ways. As a cognitive neuroscientist, I greatly appreciated how this film represented how one's past influences one's choices and direction in life. It also showed how our past, while it influences our present, once we recognize ourselves and the decisions we make, we can break from this, and have a future that is our choice, not a choice based on a past.

The only part in the filming that was odd was the road, but it is ok. I do not want to say much more.

Overall great story. True to life. This is a great film where educators and therapists can use to get a conversation started to get on to begin to look at their own behaviors.

The film is entertaining as well.

East Side Sushi
(2014)

An amazing, true to life, well written film, crossing cultures, gender and more.
I loved this film. It was creative, well scripted, that keeps you wanting to watch until the end, not knowing what will occur next. While the struggles observed in this film are so true to life, so are the opportunities.

Overall it was a beautiful film, true to life struggles among immigrant families and their children. Diana Elizabeth Torres, the main character Juana, while so beautiful in every way, finds passion, and follows through with learning, finding unfortunate barriers, but only to break them in order to follow her desires. The film also shows how cultural traditions among older immigrants are often a barrier, but when one has learned to overcome all obstacles, building self esteem and having the self confidence can break through these strongholds of tradition, that brings light to the possibilities of unity.

Penelope
(2006)

Enlightening
I had come across this movie accidentally and I am pleased I had watched it. Overall the movie while sad in a way, it was enlightening.

As a cognitive neuroscientist, I develop behavioral based programs in public health. This movie I will use as an example to refer to for our parenting classes. While this movie it was clear to me, not necessarily other viewers, that the mother thought she was protecting her baby, what shew as really doing was protecting herself from her own insecurities. This is a learning opportunity for parents, because as one can observe in this wonderfully written film, is that the parent love their child for who they are.

The most enlightening part of this film is this realization, as it was clear that the child loved herself. She was beautiful from the very beginning even as a child wanting to play with other children. This is the parents job to allow the child to experience life and encourage the child. Although some parents might need help in this area. Overall, as a parent, be there for your child, as they are beautiful.

This is a great film for families and everyone should see.

The Legend of Longwood
(2014)

Great legend movie for families
The Legend of Longwood, is a wonderful movie for families and teens. Its unique plot keeps you wondering what will be next. It is full of mystery, suspense and hope. As a cognitive neuroscientist, I develop programs for reduce exposure to injury and trauma for adults, teens and children. A point I would take from this movie, "parents never underestimate your child. Validate them, listen to them, they often have more to offer than you think". Dr. James DeCarli

The Odd Life of Timothy Green
(2012)

So many things one can learn from this movie. Never give up!
Wonderful story! As a cognitive neuroscientist, I watched this movie and so many parts are learning experiences among so many in this wonderful film. After it was over, it makes you wonder, why this story? What was the point? There are so many points. It was amazing. We will all take away that important point that pertains to us. So much can be learned. Overall, we can learn so much of ourselves from a child, and yes "never give up".

Stargirl
(2020)

Excellent
This move is heartwarming in that it illustrates what teens have to deal with socially and interpersonally on a daily basis. It is an excellent example of how the teen behavior is shaped based on early childhood, and how this affects the choices they make. It also exemplifies how adults often misunderstand the often turmoil that teens face socially and interpersonally. It has a wonderful story, and keeps you wondering what will turn up next. Sometimes this happens even in the eyes of teens in real life.
