Turn that frown upside down I must admit that I wasn't a fan of the first "Smile," so I had pretty low expectations for this sequel. The original felt long, dull, bleak, and it didn't really bring anything new to the table. It just felt like a mashup of other horror films like "It Follows," "The Ring," and "The Grudge."
However, "Smile 2" takes a different approach with its pop star angle, which makes it more unique, entertaining, and a better movie in almost every way. Naomi Scott delivers an outstanding performance as superstar Skye Riley, effectively carrying the film with her compelling portrayal. Skye's character and story is what sets this movie apart from its predecessor.
While "Smile 2" is an enjoyable film, it does raise the question of whether a continuation of this story is truly necessary.
