Thor: Love and Thunder
(2022)

Good fun
This movie was absolutely explosive fun packed into about 2 hours, rarely wasting a minute. It's hard to get bored with the compelling villain (Gorr) and the enjoyable humour and action that's spread throughout. Though the story may not be the strongest, and I'm sure there's some decisions made that some people may not like, I definitely had fun. My one true complaint was that I felt like the romance in the movie didn't result in the most impactful emotional ending, but it's not terrible.

Spider-Man: No Way Home
(2021)

Solid movie with fan service done right
This movie delivers in many aspects, particularly the action, visuals, score and acting. It is a well grounded story that deals with morality wonderfully in a compelling way. And of course, the fan service is great, accomplished in a satisfying way that is well integrated into the plot. I had so much fun watching it.

Vacation Friends
(2021)

Why was John Cena wearing a camo suit?!
Look, the movie does have its funny and enjoyable moments but realistically, the filmmaking was bland and a lot of jokes fell flat or were forced in completely unrealistic and unnecessary ways. John Cena was easily the best part of this providing the most laughs. It won't hurt to watch it but it's not something I would really recommend.

Black Widow
(2021)

Not too bad
The movie is quite solid with awesome chemistry between the family, good acting, action and great humour scattered throughout. It made me want to see more of these characters. On the downside, there are some cliche lines that are a bit annoying and the villain/s are quite bland, unoriginal and un-compelling. I've heard people complaining that they don't like the movie as it doesn't feel necessary, which kind of makes sense, but why does it need to be? Just enjoy it for what it is. I would definitely still recommend seeing this.

America: The Motion Picture
(2021)

Quite disappointing
The thing that surprised me the most about this movie was how boring it is aside from the first and last 20 minutes. The humour has its moments, but the majority doesn't really work, at least for me. It also lacked action aside from the very end, a lot was off screen or just didn't exist. Overall was rather disappointed as had been looking forward to it for a while.

Fatherhood
(2021)

Simple but heartwarming
The plot is predictable but it's done rather well (aside from some tonal issues), making you feel good on the inside by the end. The performances are quite good, particularly by Kevin Hart which was a nice surprise as it's something that feels different to what he normally does. Melody Hurd was quite good too. Overall, it's just a nice little heartwarming film to watch. Would recommend.

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
(2021)

Perfectly entertaining
This movie definitely has pretty big flaws to do with logic and a whole plot line that has really no meaning, however, when you watch this movie, you expect Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson and Salma Hayek to have funny chemistry together which they definitely have. The action isn't too bad either. Would still recommend if you want to watch a funny action comedy.

Wrath of Man
(2021)

So awesome
This movie does some great things despite it having some flaws. The score, most of the acting, the camerawork, directing by Guy Ritchie and even the opening credits were all phenomenal. In terms of flaws, I felt that there was not enough screen time with Jason Statham, although every scene he's in he's a total badass. As well as this, the third act in which the "big heist" goes down, you are constantly being told what's going on which was a bit frustrating. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this as its just so entertaining and never drags.

Things Heard & Seen
(2021)

Started quite well
Overall this movie isn't too bad with some great camerawork, acting and some eerie scenes. However, as the film progressed through the second half, it got a bit far fetched for me in terms of what was going on and characters decisions. The film also became less creepy aside from maybe 1 or 2 scenes and then the ending felt quite "off" with some terrible CGI, weirdly put together visions and a rather predictable ending. Other than that though, the film did intrigue me and was quite great for the first half.

Stowaway
(2021)

Had potential
The main problem with this movie is that it just feels really dull. There is one character in the movie that gets some form of characterisation and actually allows for you to care for them, however, the other 3 have almost no characterisation making it practically impossible to care for them as much as the movie makes you want to. The cinematography and acting is fine, but nothing great, however the direction feels a bit bland. You never really get any sense of tension or stakes and this is worsened by the dull characters. There are several moments I thought the movie could do something unique or clever, but instead it just went along with a plain, almost predictable plot. You can't say you've never seen a movie like this, with several others doing much better. I can't say I hated the movie but it just wasn't anything special.

Prisoners of the Ghostland
(2021)

One of a kind
Sion Sono has made a wonderfully imaginative movie that so effortlessly blends so many different ideas and genres from comedy, to action to dark and poignant themes. All the actors do a great job, particularly Sofia Boutella and Nic Cage with a wild performance. Also, the cinematography is wonderful, elevated by the beautiful colours. However, where the film suffers for me is that the plot feels almost "clunky" without any natural flow, events seem to just take place. This bizarre world also isn't established too well, and it felt as if there needed some form of exposition, not too much, but more than it gives. Nonetheless, this movie is exceptionally entertaining, despite its flaws, particularly thanks to Nic Cage's performance.

Godzilla vs. Kong
(2021)

Watch in cinema
This movie has phenomenal action scenes with great CGI and sound design so definitely watch at the cinema. The movie suffers from its script and trying to balance way too many plot points and characters in its rather short run time. However, this movie is a whole lot of fun to watch so would still recommend.

Zack Snyder's Justice League
(2021)

Truly An Epic Redemption
This movie is epic in every way possible and an unbelievable improvement over the last film. The atmosphere and darkness of the film is captured perfectly. I cannot believe this was kept from us for so long. The 4 hours go by so fast because it's just so entertaining. And sure, there are a few unnecessary scenes here and there but did that didn't really slow down the pace, it was still entertaining as heck. Zack Snyder does a great job filming the action and capturing the heart, soul and motivations of all the characters. One of the best superhero movies made to date. The only real issues I had were at times the characters would tell you exactly what they are going to do, but that hardly detracts from the film. I most certainly recommend it.

Cherry
(2021)

Mixed Bag
Overall Cherry isn't a bad movie but it's definitely not perfect. Tom Holland gives a phenomenal performance along with the rest of the main cast. The cinematography and sound design work effectively while Anthony and Joe Russo for the most part do a great job directing however it can come off as overly stylish at times. To give an example would be the use of bold red text that flashes over the screen occasionally as characters say certain phrases for about 10 minutes of the film. This never comes back into use however. The movie also tries to balance a lot of themes and ideas which creates an uneven feeling in the plot. The character arc at the end of the film for Holland's character also feels fairly rushed as if there could have been more to the story. Despite its flaws, the film is pretty solid and still worth checking out if you're wanting to see it.

Coming 2 America
(2021)

Disappointing
Everything about this movie was generic or worse from the bland direction, basic writing and plot, the plain acting and even the musical score felt like I'd heard a million times before. Also, for a movie about 'coming' to America, they only spend about 10 minutes there for the entire film. Sure there were a few good chuckles, particularly with the barber shop characters, but so much of the humour fell flat. Some of the central characters were quite annoying too. I can appreciate the fact however, that it seems like the people involved were trying to make something decent at the least.

Malcolm & Marie
(2021)

Pretty decent
The acting is phenomenal along with the direction of scenes and cinematography. However the pace can really drag at times. The movie should've been shorter and had a bit more to it other than arguments and then making up several times over.

Hubie Halloween
(2020)

Mess
Too many subplots that have no meaning and tie in with the story poorly along with an extremely lazy ending. The humour is also weak slapstick which rarely hits.

Tenet
(2020)

Amazing
An incredible action packed sci fi film that'll bend your mind and leave you thinking about it for hours after it's over.
