The Legend of Korra
(2012)

It's good guys come on
I definitely understand why many people don't like this show, especially when comparing it to Avatar. There are a lot of elements that are different, some for better and many for worse. But I think that this show has its own merits and is actually a very good watch.

One complaint I have seen is that this show is a little aimless. I can definitely see that, but especially after finishing the show, I disagree. Avatar had a clear, defined beginning, middle, and end with every step of the journey leading to that point. Korra does not. It doesn't have 3 seasons that are each a clear chapter of a bigger picture; it just has 4 kind of separate seasons. But I think a lot of people miss the bigger picture. Avatar was a story about defeating the fire lord with the stories of Aang and the rest of the cast forming around that. Korra is the story about Korra and how she evolves and adapts as an Avatar in such a modern world, with the rest of the conflicts forming around that. That is why I really like this show, because of Korra and her journey. She starts off headstrong and stubborn but transforms into such a compassionate, understanding Avatar who has overcome so many different odds. And the stuff that she has gone through is impossible. It's so cool and inspiring. And I honestly don't mind this structure and how it presents its seasons. It's a lot less stressful of a watch compared to Avatar, making for a fun watch.

Again, I totally understand why people don't care for this show, and I know there are a lot of other complaints, many warranted. But for what it's worth, this show has proved that it is a worthy successor to such an amazing show, and while it's definitely not as amazing, it has tons of its own merits.

Ms. Marvel
(2022)

Just because it is refreshing, doesn't mean it's amazing.
Poor pacing and a very, very loose story bogs this down a bit. But, yes, I do suggest this and think it is good because the characters are actually freaking amazing. At least Kamala and her friends and family. I absolutely love her family and would instantly be adopted by her parents if I could. Kamala herself is a refreshing take on a young superhero. She is pretty similar to Kate from Hawkeye in terms of personality, but the situation she is in is widely different and her relationships are wildly different, so the way she tackles life is fresh and it makes for a really good character study. Individual story beats are really great too. Every flashback I loved.

So yeah it's not perfect and I don't know if it's "the next best thing" like a lot of people think, but it is a nice, refreshing story. Something to kick back and just enjoy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi
(2022)

Hate me, but this is amazing
This was just a better Last Jedi Luke story. I agree that Luke's actions were rash, seeing as he is the embodiment of hope and the ending of Return of the Jedi left on a high note and not depressing. But Obi Wan? The man who ended his previous movie walking away from his best friend who was dying because of him? Please. This was more than expected behavior from him imo. I understand that people don't like their characters "digressing," because yes Obi Wan in this show was a bit off seeing how he was all skippy in episodes 3 and 4. And honestly we don't really get to see the effects of Anakin's battle with Obi Wan in Episode 3. I mean, In A New Hope he's a fun, strong, wise old man. We do get to see these effects during their Episode 3 battle, and it is heart wrenching, but after the battle he kinda just gets down to business with dispersing Luke and Leia and that's it. Events as big as that leave an impact. They leave scars. Sure, time does help heal wounds like these and it still would have made complete sense had this show not exist and A New Hope Obi Wan is his strong self, but this show is set in half the time between episodes 3 and 4. Maybe for some characters a terrible event can heal in that time, and I would completely understand if that were the case here, but it also makes total sense that Obi Wan is broken at the beginning of this show. He has been doing nothing with his life lol. It's not like he has anything to help him get over his trauma, especially since a lot of the Jedi are damn dead. And it doesn't help that Darth Vader, the literal embodiment of his failure, as he sees it, stalks him the whole show as a constant reminder of just how piss poor his old life was left off. I was skeptical too admittedly, but the show honestly did such an amazing job presenting his psyche. And the show builds upon this immensely. His journey throughout the show was believable. You can see his progress, and a lot of it is through Ewan's acting, which is phenomenal. By the time episode 4 and 5 time around you can start to see glimpse of the old, faithful Obi Wan. And when the final episode roles around...oh man.

Here are the rankings of each episode before I talk about spoilers: Episode 1: 10/10 2: 10/10 3: 9/10 4: 8/10 5: 10/10 6: 10/10.

SPOILER TALK: Vader being a constant reminder of Obi Wan's failure, again, as he sees it, is so important to the emotion of this show. In the first few episodes, Obi Wan wants to run from his past. And seeing his past, that's understandable. Like I said, we last saw Obi wan as a broken man who had his whole life ripped apart. Him cowering before Vader in episode 3 shows us how traumatizing seeing him again is. He builds his hope back in the next episodes, a lot of it thanks to Leia who is awesome in this show, and finally faces his past in one of my favorite confrontations in the whole franchise. It really was an amazing rematch that was so earned. The dialogue was on point and captured every emotion, and included great callbacks lol. When Obi Wan tears up and finally reconciles with his past by telling Anakin he is sorry, I was destroyed dude. He finally gets to tell his brother how he truly feels and how he truly regrets what happened, which haunted him ever since. It was beautiful and heart breaking. And since Obi wan was able to express that, he can be free of his guilt and once again become the man he was with a new mission. A new hope.

The other characters in the show were great. Darth Vader I of course discussed and was great for those previously stated reason, but also was just badass overall. And I loved how the flashback tied into him and Obi Wan's approach in the episode. And I completely get why he let Obi wan run around all the time; he was waiting for a real challenge and for his old master to return so he can genuinely beat him. Also I love seeing Vader in his prime The Grand Inquisitor was cool but not as good as he was in Rebels, but that was simply for the fact that Vader overshadowed him lol Leia was a freaking doll and the way Obi Wan summed her up in the last episode was really how she was in the show, and how she is overall honestly. She was super accurate to how she was in the originals and seeing Alderaan and more of Bail and her mother really makes its destruction in episode 4 really sad. Reeva or whatever her name is, the third sister, is pretty great I think. Her backstory is super interesting actually and her motives are too. I really did enjoy her decision at the end of the series and honestly I don't think her surviving is a big deal or surprise. Tons of people survive saber strikes; I'm surprised people don't finish the damn job in this universe. And Qui Gon was a nice edition. I really hope there is a second season delving more into that.

So overall yeah I really loved this lol.

Pretty Decent Actually
Episode rating: 1: 5/10 2: 7/10 3: 8/10 4: 8/10 5: 6/10

This was better than what I was expecting based on what I've been seeing online. I had a good time and I like Maya. But...it falls into the meh side of the mcu's tv output.

The main problem with this show is just wasted potential. The premise of a show about Kingpin's daughter discovering her roots after she thinks she murdered him sounds awesome, especially when the setting is one that's as interesting as this one and the characters are as interesting as these ones. And for the most part, it kind of delivered on that. I love the family and I love Maya's conflicts with them for the most part. It's interesting to see the family of a gruff badass killer. And Vincent D'Onofrio absolutely steals every scene he is in, and I loved pretty much everything with him and Maya

But the actual show falters in the execution. Maya herself is cool but she almost feels like she drifts here and there in the show. Sometimes, I understand her motivations clearly, but other times I'm left confused or a little bit in the dark. And it stretches all over the show, from her even going back to her home to her relationship with Bonnie. And apart from the uncle, who I actually really like, the other characters seem to drift here and there too. Again, no idea what is even remotely going on with Bonnie or how she is even related to Maya. The grandparents are dope and serve their purpose here and there, but it sometimes feels like they just don't do anything for extended periods of time, and they teased something with the sewing machine thing but that didn't go anywhere lol. And Biscuits is set out to be an important character at first and then precedes to fix a truck off screen for half the show, and nothing came out of the fact that he is "impressionable." But Kingpin and the uncle are my loves. Although, I don't think that the Kingpin ending fight scene really worked that well. He is much better served in dialogue-heavy or one-on-one battles, which is what I'm dying to see in the new Daredevil show if it ever gets made.

The other big grievance I have with the show is its pacing. It utilizes its time so inefficiently. The whole first episode is a giant ass flashback with 60% reused footage from Hawkeye and the ending is pretty rushed. 5 episodes are way too small for a show that needs to be a lot more serious and focused.

But yeah, terrible pacing and mishandled characters aside, I like what this was going for and I think it did a fair job at it in the end. I wish we get to see Maya in something else that fleshes her out more and does so more effectively.

The Defenders
(2017)

A fun slog
The pacing in this show alone is quiet possibly the worst offender to the entirety of Netflix's Marvel run, because this could have been something amazing. I say the entirety because sure some-most-of the other side of Marvel Netflix isn't really my forte and I think fumbles some bags, but each has its own identity and style, which can be easily latched onto by an audience whose taste is appealed to. This show however is a combination of 4 separate characters, 4 separate styles, and it does not do too good of a job combining those styles. Actually it doesn't really do the job at all, which might just be the overarching problem I'm discovering as I'm writing this haha. Bad pacing can't be excused, let alone terrible, no good, very bad pacing. For every cool fight scene there is 40 minutes of chit chat, which can be very sluggish. If it wasn't for the charisma of the characters this show would blow massive loads.

I will admit that I still had a good bit of fun with it, as the characters are just awesome (except the 5 year old who is Danny Rand). The plot is actually pretty cool too imo.

Everything could have been better, but I actually like it how it is, for what it is. Maybe now that one of these characters is actually in the mcu we can get something better.

Star Wars Rebels: The Forgotten Droid
(2016)
Episode 19, Season 2

So close
The first half of this episode is really, really goofy and uninteresting, which drags the episode down. However, by the time AP-5 comes around in the second half of the episode, it gets GOOD. I legit teared up in this episode; you just gotta get to the good stuff

Animaniacs
(2020)

Funny, but please don't shove politics down my throat
This series is at its best when it the irreverent, satirical, absurd comedy is getting shoved down your throat. This series is at its worst when it decides to instead shove its political opinions down your throat. I know I don't like Trump, I don't need cartoon characters telling me to not like him! It's stupid that they expect me to take a cartoon character's political opinion seriously...come on.

This show is honestly really funny though.

Animaniacs: Bun Control/Ex Mousina/Bloopf
(2020)
Episode 4, Season 1

How subtle
Look, I don't mind a political opinion in movies/TV here or there as long as it's subtle. This show has shoved its political opinion down my throat every single episode so far. I don't need these stupid cartoons telling me to dislike guns and Trump good lord

Death Note: Desu nôto
(2006)

Tense, yet cathartic
One thing that makes this show very unique to me is that the overarching plot is actually like amazing. Most anime and similar shoes I've seen are the opposite; they have great singular episodes but the story is lacking and barely even there. But for this show, the story is on full display, and it is so freaking amazing. Some of the individual episodes still lack a bit though, but there are a lot of 10 out of 10s for this show's episodes. It slows down a bit in the middle of the first part (1-25), and the second part just fumbles the ball when compared to the first part, it's still cool tho.

Death Note: Desu nôto: Fukkatsu
(2007)
Episode 24, Season 1

Heck Yes
Finally cool Light is back. I would say "hopefully the show gets its full strength back!" But I have of course heard that the rest of the show is somewhat worse lmao

Blood of Zeus
(2020)

Again man
Zeus is so horny all of the time dude, like come on...how many other offspring do we not know about

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich
(2020)

It's alright
Really powerful with great subject material, but the way this was presented wasn't that good. I was really interested, but ultimately kind of bored

The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner
(2019)
Episode 6, Season 1

Underrated
The only downside about this episode is the fairly unoriginal plot. The episode has great suspense, great additional characters, and AMAZING character development for Mando. This may be a filler episode in terms of story, but I believe that character development is never filler in the long run.

Muppets Now
