Bambai Meri Jaan
(2023)

Good writing and excellent performances
The series based on the book "Dongri to Dubai - Six decades of mumbai Mafia". The series is captivating and keeps you hooked from the start. Besides the script the performance of the cast elevates the series. The direction by Shujaat is good as it captures Dongri, the gangs that are spread across mumbai and the relationship between the various characters. The story is told from the point of view of Ismail kadri so the treatment is different focussing on the relationship though the gangwars are picturised well.

The star of the show is obviously Kay Kay who as usual comes up with another amazing performance. He lights up the screen every time he is on frame and we feel his predicament, helplessness and despair in his eyes as he sees his family slipping into a life of crime.

He is supported well with some fine performances from he whole cast who are top notch, some notable mentions are: Nivedita as Sakina is superb as the wife who is torn between her husband and sons.

Kritika as Habiba was a revelation. She has a very strong screen presence and is perfect for the role.

Avinash as Dara - gets into the character rights from the initial days of his life in crime and as he goes on to become the king challenging his enemies.

Jitin as Sadique as Daras brother is equally good specially the emotional sequence in the end.

Saurabh as Haji gives good support.

Special mention need to be given to Manthan who plays the younger Dara, Tanaya Khan as Chitra and Chotu.

Oppenheimer

Must Watch - One of the finest biopic ever made
Nolan delivers a compelling biopic which keeps you hooked from the start to finish. Though 3 hours long, it keeps you glued to the screen. This is a movie to be watched n the big screen, nolan weaves a agical experience. The cienematography and story telly is is top nautch. This is one of the finest movie made by nolan.

You get to know te internal details of the lide of Oppenheimmer and his achievements and dillemna. You will also know the background of what went into making of the A bomb and the bobing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki. The politics behind the action and thirst for Power.

Ciliam Nurphy - Absolutely briliant in each frame, he brings the character to life. Conveying a lot through his expessive eyes which Nolan makes full use of. His scenes with Albert Eienstein will give you goose bumps.

Robert Downey jr - Though a supporting role, he lends lots of sincerety to his role and does a good job.

Matt Damon lends good support as Major general in charge of the Project.

Emily Blunt as oppenheimmer's wife is a very strong role and she is very convincing. The hearing scenes where she is questioned on her link to communist groups is classic.

Babylon
(2022)

Starts with a bang but then becomes unbearable towards the end
An actor who is a star from the silent era, a helper who does lot of odd jobs and ants to make it big in the movies and a wanabe star who fakes she is a star till she becomes one.

The silent movie era ends and the sound erra starts, how everyone copes with it. There are lots of characters and sequences. The start is superb with lots of energy and colours.

Unfortunately the movie is too long and it becomes boring after a point. Some scenes do not fit the flow and seem to have been added just for the heck of it.

Margot Robbie is the star here and does a splendid job, specially in some of the earlier scenes.

Diego Calva is good and brings lots of sincereity to his role.

The music score is excellent. Beware of the last 1 hour.

Bawaal
(2023)

Good Clean movie
The story of a couple having issues after the bride gets epilepsy attack on her wedding day. Since the groom is various of his social status he distances away from her. When he is on the verge of losing his job as a teacher he plans an educational trip to the countries at the center of world war 2. How they both bond with each other and resolve their differences is the crux of the movie.

The movie has feel good factor and is clean, however not sure why there was a need to link it to world war 2 which did not make sense.

How they develop a bond during tour of europe is the crux of the movie.

The songs are ok.

Janhvi is excellent as Nisha and brings lot of sincereity and innocence to her role and is the heart of the movie.

Varun is ok.

They are well supported by Manoj and Anjuman.

Maamannan
(2023)

Average fare
The movie is too long and does not keep you immersed in the going on. The action sequences are average and could have been better. To be fair there are parts of it which is good but overall lacks the punch compared to come of the directors earlier movies.

AR Rahmans music is average compared to his awesome track record.. Though the background score is better.

The only saving grace is Fahad Fasil who is excellent in a negative role, however it still does not save the movie.

He is supported by Vadivelu who is very convincing as Maamannan.

Keerthy Suresh looks gorgeous but has nothing much to do.

Tarla
(2023)

Worth Watching for the lead performers
A biopic on Tarla Dalal and her journey from a housewife to super Chef.

The movie talks about her journey focusing on her attempt at publishing her first book and then doing first Cooking TV show. It also shows how she teaches students to cook and do well in life. I think before that some time should have been spent in establishing that she is indeed a very good cook. Pobably spending some time to emphasise that should have helped in building up a story and then show initiation into cooking classes, book & shows.

The movie is elevated by superb performance from the lead cast of Huma and Sharib. They have good chemistry and the performance is natural, sincere and endearing.

Vikram Vedha
(2022)

Good Remake
I normally don't like watching remakes if i have seen the original. I made an exception for this one because of the reviews i heard of hritik's perfformance.

Overall i liked the original which was better made from a story and emotional point of view.

Gayatri Pushkar keeps the base storyline and gives it a North Indian twist. The action sequences are slick however i should admit that some of the scenes in the last action sequences are over the top.

There is a song added which does not fit it but is choreographed well & Hrithik is in full form here. The chemistry between Hrithik & Saif is good and thier screens together

Hrithik has done an excellent Job with his interpretation of the role bringing in a lot of raw energy and i should say that this is what eleviates the movie. Vijay Sethupathi was superb in the original but his take was bit more restrained.

He is supported well by Saif who plays a trigger happy cop with a concience.

The other performance worth mentioning is Sharib Hashmi who pays a negative role and is excellent. Hope he gets to play more of such roles.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two
(2023)

Must Watch
Part 2 is much better than Part 1. The cinematography, the action sequences and the backgrund score are all superb which keeps you hooked to the story line.

I like the way the movie starts with background story of Nandini & Adithya as both are key parts of th story.

Aishwariya is superb as Nandini, looks gogeous every time she is on screen. This has to be one of the finest performances in her carrer and she has been able to depict the finer nuances in her character, conveying so much with her eyes.

Vikram as Adithya has a commanding screen presence, the angst and predictament that he has brought to his character is amazing.

Karthi as Vandiyadevan also fits in well. Just like in the part 1 he there where the action is and does a good job.

Jayam as Arunmozhi brings so much maturity to his character and is equally good.

Trisha as Kundavai has a key role to play and she looks beautiful on screen with good screen presence. Her scenes with Karthi are beautifully done.

There are many more stars with limited screen time but all fits in to this amazing story.

Dasara
(2023)

Poor Story and Content
I watched expecting it to be good based on the trailer and hype however was disappointed.

There was hardly any story though there were moments here and there. The movie is inconsistent and does not have that wow factor.

The locales and some of the scenes are shot nicely. The songs are different and couple of them are good.

From performance point of view, Keerthy Suresh does a superb job and is the best of the lot. She gives her character Vannela life and is one of the shining points in the otherwise dull movie.

Nani has his moments but is let down by the script. He is exceptional in some of the emotional moments. Some of his scenes with Keerthy are good.

Gulmohar
(2023)

Engrossing movie with excellent star cast
Gulmohar The last 4 days of the Batra family as they move out from their home of many years and shift to another city.

While they are staying in a single house there are differences and friction with many of them not in talking terms.

As the movie starts with a party you are immediately engrossed in whats happening in the family as you get to know each of the characters and their secrets as it unfolds.

Debutant director Rahul has a good mix of stalwarts and fresh starcast who do an excellent job in elevating the movie.

Manoj - He is the soul of Gulmohar. He brings multiple nuances to the character with eye to details which is a treat to to watch. His connect with his biological father, his bonding with his wife simran, his connect with his mom, his stained relationship with his son. Manoj is in full form. Watch him try to stop a fight between his watchman and supervisor and in the end hitting the watchman, thats superb acting. Also the scene in the end here he embraces his mom waiting with open arms will make you cry.

Sharmila - A comback after many years, she gives everything to the role. She is superb.

Simran - She was the surprise package with a towering performance. A sthe person who holds the family together she is great. Her scenes with manoj are scene stealer. Hope she gets to do more of similar strong roles.

There are some more stand out performances worth mentioning: Suraj Sharma stands out in his role.

Jetendra as the watchman Reshma as the house help.

Farzi
(2023)

Another engaging Series from Raj & DK
Farzi tells the story of an artist & his friend who gets on to creating counterfeits due to curcumstances. We have an officer who has been tasked to wipe out the network of counterfiet currecy in the country, he is after the kingpin who has been evading arrest.

Raj & DK are able to keep you engrossed right from the start as the characters keep getting introduced and it takes you to the finale. The dialogues are well written The cast is superb with each one of them doing full justice to the character that they are playing.

Vijay - Vijay is superb as the the officer leading the task to zero in on the kingpin. He brings on his own style and is very convincing in his role.

Bhuvan & Shahid - They complement each other and bring in a raw energy to the role. They have a very good chemistry and have done full justice to the role.

Kay Kay - As the fugitive kingpin, it looks like a normal role but Kay Kay brings in his own style & nuance which uplifts the role.

Some other notable performances are Raashi Khanna & Zakir Hussain.

A must watch.

Pathaan
(2023)

Its ok
The Spy Universe Pathan lacks a story line and there are lots of gaps which contributes in not keeping you engrossed.

There are some action scenes that are well choreographed however its not consistent. Some are way over the top. However considerable investment is made in VFX and they have done a good job.

Shahrukh is as usual good. He is good in some of the Action sequences which have been Choreographed well.

Deepika is also ok and does not have much to do.

John Abraham is the surprise package here and he is really good playing the bad guy. The BGM every time he makes an entry on the screen is excellent.

The title song shown with the credits is good, however the other one Besharam Rang is below average. This is a shame as normally YSF movies have excellent music.

The cinematography is very good capturing the locales and the Fight sequence specially the one on the frozen lake is excellent.

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey
(2022)

Nice Comedy with excellent performances
The story is about Jaya who does not have freedom to decide what she wants and its always someone else who makes all the decisions for her without asking her opinion. She gets married to Rajesh and becomes regular victim of Domestic violence. The movie clearly shows the double standards of her parents and in las and she has to endure before she finally decides its enough. Many will relate to the story as it is relevant.

The scenes are well written and many of them will make you laugh aloud.

Darshana as Jaya is excellent.

She is supported by all the cast who all do a great job.

The star however is Basil who is superb as Rajesh. This is one of his finest performance.

The fight scene in the end was unnecessary and over the top, which defied logic.

Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie
(2022)

Edge of the Seat Thriller
Suspense thriler which is well written with excellent performance by the cast.

The series starts with finding the boidy of a lady and then the investigation starts. A honest cop makes his mission to get justice to the lady. The investigation unfolds ans each possible option is investigated and suddently you find its a dead end. There is a revelation in every episode and that keeps you engrossed and on the edge of your seat.

This is another well conceived and written web series in tamil after Suzhal.

The performance by the cast is superb and eleviates the experience. Special mention goes to Suryah, Sanjana & Laila.

The cinematography is excellent.

Goodbye
(2022)

Watchable once because of Amitabh
Goodbye is a movie f the void in a family when the person who keeps they together suddenly expires. How the family gradually comes to terms with it and slowly bonds with each other, many of whom are not in talking terms with each other.

Amitabh is at the centre and is the soul of the movie. He gives another excellent performance.

This is Rashmika's hindi debut and she does well.

Sunil grover also does well in a short role.

There are lot of comments on rituals and interaction between people who are part of funeral. Some make you smile but many are over the top.

The film also drags as it becomes repetitive, probably editing would have made it better.

Similiar content was presented better in movies like Paglait & Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi.

Mayaanadhi
(2017)

Amazing movie with excellent performance
Mathan (Tovino) is on the run after accidently killing policeman. He is in love with Aparna (Aishwarya), a struggling actress who does not trust him due to an incident in the past.

Mathan keeps meeting her in order to woo her and at the same time the police are closing on in him.

The story is well presented and you feel for the love of mathan and Aparna. The cinematography is excellent.

Tovino and Aishwarya are amazing and they have excellent chemistry which eleviates the movie.

The supporting cast perform well but the person who stands out with a 1 minute screen time is Soubin Shahir. Just loved his cameo specially since it was sudden and unexpected and performed well.

The climax is heart breaking but you will enjoy it.

Monica O My Darling
(2022)

Must Watch
A murder mystery with a twist which is well written and directed. The dialogues are superb and funny making it a enjoyable watch. An affair that leads to suspicious blackmail and ends in murder...infact multiple murders.

The music is fresh and excellent. The background score adds to the tension and the song from the movie Caravan is used innovatively.

The script and direction is supported by am amazing cast who all conribute to make this a must watch.

Raj Kumar Rao - Is superb, some of the scenes get elevated by him just by his presence.

Huma - She is the scene stealer, brightning up the screen every time hse is around. The fight scene between her and Raj is hilarious.

Radhika - Has very few scenes but she brings her own touch to the role of ACP.

Sikander - Very small role but he does a superb job.

Bagavathi - Superb comic timing.

Rorschach
(2022)

Unconventional Psychological Revenge Triller
A thriller/mysty movie about luke filing a police compliant of his wife missing after an accident. The story progresses with new revelations and we finally get to know the last of luke and his intentions and reason for his current visit.

The story is elevated by star cast who makes it convincing and director Nissam who handles the flow in a different way. The cinematgraphy captures the natural beauty of the locale and the characters in their raw getup which eleviates the end effect. The use of English songs also makes the tratment different.

Mamooty is superb as Luke.

Jaddish was a big revelation to me in this movie, he is excellent. As far as i remember this is the first time he gets to play a role like this and he does a fantastic job. Hope he plays more such real characters in the future.

Bindu Panikkar as seetha is mindblowing.

Grace does a marvellous job, another feather in her cap after Appan.

Other significant performances that stand out are Sharafudheen & Kottayam Nazeer.

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu
(2022)

Gangster Move done right!
A story of a villager from Tuticorin who comes to mumbai in search of job. He gradualy starts working for a gangster and kills for a living. He slowly rises in the ranks and becomes a favourite of Kaarji Bhai.

There is a paralel track which shows his romance with siddhi who has a good screen presence tough she has a miniscule role.

The action sequences are choreographed well and looks real. The music ny AR Rahman and the cinematography is excellent.

Silambaran is good and gives a convincing potrayal.

However towards the end the story jumps to after 5 years and is not sure what was the intent as there is no connection or continuity on what was shown till then. The scene abruptly shifts to Lucknow and it seems one of his child is dead. This leaves the viewer confused.

Kettiyollaanu Ente Maalakha
(2019)

Asif is the Star here!
The story line is simple. Sleeva gets married so that there is someone who can take care of his old mother. The film addresses sensitive topics like marital rape, misguided notions about sex, importance of consent all of which is prevalent but not discussed much. The movie handles all these sensitivey which makes it a must watch for everyone.

Asif Ali is the star here and the last scene where he opens his heart is One of the best emotional scenes i have seen for a long time. You will feel for him and cry along.

He is supported well by the supporting cast of mother, sister, wife, co- workers etc.

The cinematography is excellent capturing the greenery and the scenic beauty.

Shyam Singha Roy
(2021)

Nani is good
A beautiful movie on incarnation which is presented in a unique way.

A struggling movie director makes a short movie which leads him to direct feature film. He comes up with the story and he is all set to direct the movie when tragedy strikes and he gets arrested.

The reasons that lead to the same which is shown in flash back and drive sthe story further ahead.

The cinematography and the music is good.

Nani is excellent as Shyam and gives everything to the role. He is convincing in the flashback spcially his body language which makes the character convincing.

Sai Pallavi has a strong screen presence and gives good support. The rest of the star cast is ok though they have nothing much to do.

Thiruchitrambalam
(2022)

Must Watch
Thiru lives with his father & grandfather. He has not talked to his father for the last 10 years but he is close with his grand father with whom he has a good connect. The scenes between these three are a delight to watch.

The anger owards his father which is a result of an incient and he blames his father for the state he is in.

The other track in tis movie is the relationship Thiru shares with his childhood friend shobhana. She loves him but does not express it and Thiu is not aware of the same. The scenes between them are a delight to watch specially in the second half.

Dhanush is superb as Thiru, and goes through the emotion of angs, desperation and loss with aplomb. Nithya as shobhana is amazing, matching with Dhanush which takes te movie to another well.

Prakash as the father and Bharathiraja as the grandfater are good.

The music score is good and the song are choeograohed well.

A must watch.

Sita Ramam
(2022)

Must Watch - one of the best Romantic movieofflate
An Orphan soldier, Lt Ram's life changes after he rceives a letter from Sita. They exchange letters, meet and love blossoms. Set in the backdrop of terrorist operations in Kashmir, and what happens to the lovers forms the crux of the story.

The direction by Hanu and the story mesmerises you and keeps you hooked till the end. Its one of those rare love stories hich is executed well and keeps your interests till the end.

The music and background sscore is a plus. The cinematography and picturisation of Kasmir is superb and a treat to watch.

Dulquer as Lt Ram is excellent and breathes life into every frame he is part of. He lives the role of Lt Ram and this would be one of his finest performances till date.

Mrunal Thakur as Sita looks gorgeous and it is difficult to take your eyes off her. She gives a powerful nuanced peformance going through all the emotions. Her ability to convey emotions with her expressive eyes lifts the character of Sita to a different level. One of her best perfrmance till date.

Another thing that works for the movie is the chemistry between Dulquer & Mrunal.

Rashmika is good as Afreen is good and so are all the other supporting cast.

Nna Thaan Case Kodu
(2022)

Well Written Satirical Court Room Drama
The story of a reformed thief's fight for justice when he gets caught by politics of high & mighty.

How he files a case, fights it on his own and finally clears his name is the crux of the story.

However Ratheesh who has written and directed this, makes it very engaging. The dialogues and the detailing that has gone into each scene makes it a must watch.

Kunchacko is first rate as Rajeevan, including some unique dance steps which are the highlights. He is supported well by the supporting star cast who all do their part.

The ones that make an impact are: Rajesh Madhavan as Sureshan who is perfect.

Kunhikrishnan as the Magistrate who lifts the character to a different level.

Gayathrie as Devi who is fierce.

Thallumaala
(2022)

Ballad of Brawls!
Another unique movie from the Malayalam industry. Is a simple story but there are so many colors and life put into every frame and is thoroughtly enjoyable. There is so much detailing into fight sequences which is the crux of the story and is as the name suggests a Ballad of Brawls.

The plot starts with Wazim (Tovino) narrating the plot that happened during his wedding and we move back and forth till we are in the current. The fights are central to the story and the plot moves from one fight to another. There is a fight during the wedding as well. Infact Wazim's best friends are the ones with whom he had a fight uring their first meeting.

Tovino is superb as Wazim. He gets good support from his 3 friends specially Lukman Lukku as Jamshi who is excellent. Shine Tom as the SI is good. Chemban Vinod does not have much to do but has a good screen presence. Kalyani is ok.

The direction by Khalid Rehman is good and the dialogues are crisp. The cinematography is amazing, there is so much colour in every frame. The fight sequences are choreographed and executed superbly and are central to the fim. The music and background score elevates is good. The dance choreography is also ell done with tovino & team doing some amazing steps.

The highlight however is the cycle chase and the fight scene in the cinema theatre, absolutely mind blogging.
