The Father
(2020)

"The Father Review"
An amazing film for a first feature. A brutal subject that has been a theme in several movies, but this one goes deeper allowing us to see from a different point of view. Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman never disappoint, both gave astonishing performances.

Sound of Metal
(2019)

"Sound Of Metal Review"
Going into this movie, I knew I was going to bawl my eyes out and I freakin' did. This is an amazing, heart-wrenching film.

This movie is also very educational for people regarding the deaf community. The sound design is brilliant, it helps the audience empathize more with the character.

Best thing about the movie are the characters, Ruben and Lou. First of all, the actors have amazing chemistry and you could feel the sincerity of their performances. They perfectly portray how people who love each other could still heal even without being together, it might even be the best and healthiest way. I think that's a really great takeaway from the movie.

Stay
(2005)

"Stay Review"
This film is visually stylish, how one scene leads to another captures perfectly a dream-like atmosphere. Great performances by everyone and has a story that is tragically beautiful.

The Terror
(2018)

"The Terror Season 1 Review"
"The Terror" is the 1st installment to the horror-drama anthology, executively produced by the great Ridley Scott. This was adapted from the novel of the same name by Dan Simmons and is inspired by real events of the expedition of Sir John Franklin to the Arctic in 1845. This series is definitely my cup of tea because of its dark themes but this is really disturbing and dark so it might be emotionally-consuming, that's why if ever you plan on watching it, try to gulp it down slowly. Having said that, this is a brilliant series. This probably could come close to how I feel about "Breaking Bad" being the greatest. The performances are top-notch and the characters are so fleshed out that you could really love and hate them so much, in a genuine way. It deals with a lot of things we've seen before like friendship, survival, human evilness and spiritual stuffs but then it's presented in a different way and you'll see it go full circle in the end. I highly recommend this series and oh btw, not for people who have a weak stomach.

Kanashimi no Beradonna
(1973)

"Belladonna of Sadness Review"
Art for art's sake is how I would describe this film. It includes themes of witchcraft and satanism, but the underlying meaning of it depicts the different kinds of abuse that women experience around the world. Though I'm not an expert in art, I think this movie is presented in a very unique, artistic way. For this reason, the film is visually beautifully but also unsettling at the same time.

Beoning
(2018)

"Burning Review"
Honestly at first, I didn't know what to make of this film and how I could put my feelings about it into words. It's probably because I didn't care much about the characters and so it was tougher for me to empathize or even sympathize with them. Regardless, it's not necessarily a bad film. I actually appreciate the good quality of mystery in it and how the director took a different route in presenting it. Just leaving traces behind, good enough to stimulate the audience's mind.

The Devil All the Time
(2020)

"The Devil All The Time"
This is a slow-paced movie and has a lot of characters that you need to keep up with when watching it. Though we've encountered these characters and plot before, it's how everything are intertwined and how they all come together in the end that make this film worth-watching. I think it's a well-made and a well-organized movie. Best thing about it is the acting, Tom Holland gave an amazing performance as well as the other actors in the film.

Promising Young Woman
(2020)

"Promising Young Woman Review"
I have no words for this movie but just DISTURBING and REAL, so real that it's scary.

Kol
(2020)

"The Call Review"
A visually beautiful, fast-paced movie with effective suspense, Constantly punching you in the gut and not letting go.

Pieces of a Woman
(2020)

"Pieces of a Woman Review"
This is an astounding film. It''s not an easy watch though, some of the scenes are tough. It has a long, amazing opening shot that has a gist to tell and is an important part of the story. This is more than just a movie, it is an emotional experience

His House
(2020)

"His House Review"
A movie about redemption and acceptance. Heartbreaking but compelling and has a refreshing spin on the horror genre.

She Dies Tomorrow
(2020)

"She Dies Tomorrow Review"
Honestly speaking, this film is not for everyone. It's dream-like and it doesn't exactly have a vivid plot. Having said that, I think it still has strong points that suits my preference particularly. It's illusive with creative colors and imagery. It also deals with a lot of things that's happening nowadays: contagion, anxiety, how our behaviour and actions affect other people around us, which made me uneasy at times (as a horror fan, it's a good thing for me). And for that, this movie is still worth a watch.

The Vast of Night
(2019)

"The Vast of Night Review"
This movie is terrific! It heavily relies on dialogue but even if it's like that, it's not boring at all. It's engaging still because it has that campfire-story feel and it will actually make your hair stand on end. The long shots are amazing and with a low-budget and a new-comer director, the film fared pretty well.

Minari
(2020)

"Minari Review"
An amazing family drama, telling the classic story of immigrants and that the "American Dream" is not how it's always seems to be. What makes this movie excellent is how much genuineness it has, coming straight from the director's life, and you could feel that beaming out of the screen.

Nomadland
(2020)

"Nomadland Review"
This is a quiet, beautiful film. With the amazing shots of landscapes and a great performance by Frances McDormand, the movie perfectly conveys the everyday struggle of surviving, finding a sense of belongingness and the loneliness that comes with it, but at the same time showing the beauty of life and the experiences and the great people you meet along the way. I think this is a relatable movie in many ways and that's how it reaches the audience.

Possessor
(2020)

"Possessor Review"
One of the best sci-fi/ horror movies of the decade. I could go as far as saying that I felt a Christopher Nolan vibe from it, but it's much raunchier and a more balls-to-the-wall kind of film, and I mean that in every good way. It even has a different take on the usual assassin character, showing us a deeper and more haunting side of it. This movie is directed by Brandon Cronenberg (son of David Cronenberg, director of the brilliant remake of "The Fly"). I guess the talent runs in the family.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

"Better Call Saul"
I was kinda worried that "Better Call Saul" won't live up to its parent series, "Breaking Bad" but boy I was wrong. Vince Gilligan did it again, an amazing series straight from his creative mind. First of all, it's nice to see all the familiar faces of the characters I've grown to love from "Breaking Bad." It's great as well to dive deeper into James McGill's life (aka. Saul Goodman). He's known to be an asshole, conman of a lawyer in "Breaking Bad" but still a likeable character, so I'm glad they delve into more of his roots, of why he is what he is now or has he always been like that. I also think that Bob Odenkirk is a brilliant actor, underrated btw. The best part of this show is definitely the chemistry between Bob Odenkirk's character and Rhea Seehorn's character (Kim Wexler). Her character is not your typical damsel in distress, love interest of the guy protagonist. She is treated as an equal which is why their relationship on screen works really well. I'm patiently waiting for its 6th and final season but kinda scared, too because I feel like there's a giant meteorite coming for one of the characters here. The character never appeared in "Breaking Bad," and remember that this is a prequel, so it only means one thing. This character might die in this series and it WILL break my heart! But still, you guys ought to watch this amazing series.

Tenet
(2020)

"Tenet"
This is another mind-boggling and time-bending film by Christopher Nolan. Relatively speaking, this movie has a more difficult plot than what "Inception" has. It's like watching the German series, "Dark" that you need to pay close attention to every single detail. Nonetheless, this film is terrific. It has beautiful, new shots that we've never seen in other movies before and great fighting sequences. This film is like a person dressed up in a nice and sleek suit. When it comes to characterization, the protagonist is very charismatic and likeable. At first, I thought that this movie didn't have a lot of emotions, which was fine in a Christopher Nolan movie because most of his films focus on the bigger picture. But in the end when everything was revealed, the connection between John David Washington's character and Robert Pattinson's character kinda tugged my heartstrings a bit, so that was nice. I hope this movie gets more buzz because it's definitely worth a watch.

Mank
(2020)

"Mank"
It includes everything you're looking forward to a David Fincher film. Beautiful shots, brilliant musical score, and an amazing performance from Gary Oldman, but somehow I felt something new, something that we don't really see a lot from Fincher's movies, it's the gentleness that made this movie going for me which I'm really glad I got to watch. Credits to David Fincher's father (Jack Fincher) writing the screenplay, which I guess explains a lot on why there's so much heart to this as it is a passion project for David Fincher.

I strongly suggest though that before watching Mank, check out Citizen Kane first and some behind-the-scenes stuff about it.

Breaking Bad
(2008)

"Breaking Bad"
Honestly, I'm not sure where to start in reviewing this brilliant series. This show has the best chemistry between two main leads. It has the most fleshed out characters and has the most amazing arcs, including supporting roles that never went to waste and villains that aren't silly, but will actually scare you. Top-notch acting by everyone and my god the writing by Vince Gilligan.

Watching this is not chill, it will continuously throw things at your face, which is great because how you're feeling will match how the characters at the moment are feeling, you know just constantly anxious, therefore much relatable. If you're like me who has acrophobia and won't go to places with such great heights, then this show is perfect because it is like a roller coaster.

This show is just a different animal, a different caliber and the best TV series I've ever watched, which is a thriller genre BTW and this is coming from a hardcore horror fan (me) so that's saying something.

I'll fight anyone who says this show is not good. I highly recommend it, watch it and be blown away by "Science, b***h!" (you'd get this catchphrase once you start watching it )

Vuelven
(2017)

Tigers Are Not Afraid
One of the great movies that I have seen in recent years. In a dying society, children might be the only hope it got. Advertised as a horror movie but there's actually more to it, more heart and compassion.

The Usual Suspects
(1995)

"The Usual Suspects"
One of the best neo-noir movies in the 90s with an intriguing ending.

How to Get Away with Murder
(2014)

"How to Get Away with Murder"
One of the best TV dramas I've ever watched. Strongest point of the series is its characters, and how great their chemistry and acting are. It deals with a lot of issues in the society right now like politics, corruption, sexuality ... going through life's struggles and making decisions, whether it's right or wrong and still keeping your true self in the process. In other words, this show is very relatable, just brilliant and something you wouldn't want to overlook.

Mindhunter
(2017)

"Mindhunter"
A great show with fascinating stories, straight from the dangerous minds of real-life serial killers. David Fincher (legendary director that brought you, "Fight Club" and "Seven") is one of the producers, and he directed two episodes of the series so better check it out.

The Half of It
(2020)

"The Half Of It"
This is not your typical boy-meets-girl love story, it's more than that. A truly genuine, funny, and heartwarming film. I kinda bawled my eyes in the end.
