Long, in vain... Sad, sad, sad!
I will start with my part of 'expertise', music: I saw a trailer comparing this production to 'Gladiator'. Comparing to Hans Zimmer, Gladiator, here, the music was so out of any coherence, ranging from ever heard big tuttis (but badly written), to preclassical clichees and eastern sounding (slavik, but, again, badly written and badly performed) choirs.
The acting of both main and supporting characters was so empty, from time to time you can see extras just looking as they were out of that film (see the moment in church when the priest names him emperor).
The photography direction is very chaotic, from ultra saturated colours to quasi black and white moments.
I saw this at mall with the dolby atmos option and the sound, also, was so incoherently done: from the beginning with all the music (soundtrack) mixed to the very center (mono like), to moments when strange dogs or horse can be heard to the extreme left or left behind. Even CGI is poor (see the Asterliz battle, the tens with the fires look so much like copy/paste).
Conclusion: in no way comes this film near the Gladiator. NO WAY! Joaquin Phoenix knows only one gimmick, Russell Crowe is a complex actor.
I truely looked for some value to evaluate this film with more than the 1 star imdb forces you to offer, but i couldn't find. From me, 1/10.
