Matt Rife: Natural Selection
(2023)

Simply Not Funny
I've heard lots of comedians talk about taking one year to write and perfect their special, I've heard them talk about how to approach controversial topics, or for example - when is too soon.

A general consensus is that you'll be forgiven for a lot, if you're funny.

Sorry Matt, this is simply not funny.

The jokes went way too long, didn't deliver, highlighted your youth and inexperience, and sounded clueless and immature.

Bummer. Let's see if you can recover from this one.

Maybe now is the time to look inward instead of double-downing on the stupidity & childishness.

It is simply: not funny.

I was impressed
The two leading actors did a fantastic job. It was hard for me to find anything wrong with this film. I could not believe how the two hours went so quickly for me.

At one point the frustration for Megan Twohey bubbles over and that scene brought a few tears.

It's important for people to see and understand how prevalent the intimidation and bullying is in the workplace. I have had my own challenges, but nothing like some others. I'm sure it could be difficult to watch if it stirs up unfortunate memories.

I could understand it not being for everyone, but I truly hope that many take the time for it.

Brava to the screenwriting, the direction, and the acting! Pretty sure awards/nominations are coming.

Too bad
I wanted so deeply for this movie to be good. It started out wonderfully and I was so excited about the foodie viewpoint, I thought I might see it a second time and bring my eating buddy. That quickly changed. The middle took an unfortunate turn and I just felt sad for the actors and the writers, because it was such a fun idea, but yes... we've seen it before and it came predictable and caused you to not care anymore.

As stated by another reviewer, the production value was there, well-known names, and great satire provided a few good laughs - what a shame. I believe it hurts more when the incredible potential and beginning is there, and then sadly goes off the rails. Simply too bad.
