Siempre reinas
(2022)

Fun and entertaining! Must for all people who watched mexican telenovelas in 90s
I really enjoyed this show- it is so funny, hilarious and had this muy buena onda. The context is very easy for understanding for Mexicans and in generally for people from Latin America, since Mexican telenovelas were the most popular, and everyone in any LAT AM country watched at some point Maria Mercedes, Rosa Salvaje or Tu O Nadie: the same goes to people borb in the ex-USSR: in the beginning of 1990s, Mexican telenovela Los Ricos Tambien Lloran was aired by the major state TV channel and turned a national phenomenon with up to 90% ratings in the final episodes

Undoubtedly my most favorite character is Laura Zapata- she is famous for her dramatic acting in telenovelas where she was always the main anthagonist and never got role of a "good girl". One of the most popular telenovelas with Laura Zapata, Rosa Salvaje, became the 3rd mexican soap opera aired by the so called 1st channel in Russia, and it was successful too.

Funny enough, over the course of shooting of Siempre Relnas Zapata went into conflict with Lucia Mendez - eventually the most famous actress and singer among all 4 ladies. Mendez; as opposed to Zapata,, almost always was a main protagonist in telenovelas. However, in this context I can only ca her "malvada" - she is widely known as a quite scandalous person, and she managed to organize crisis in the project of popular Mexican music producer, who wrote a song that should be recorded by all four participants.

Interestingly enough, the 2nd Mexican telenovela demonstrated in Russia was Tu o Nadie, with Lucia Mendez as a main protagonist.

Pacto Brutal: O Assassinato de Daniella Perez
(2022)

Tragic and captivating story of the crime that shocked Brazil
Amazing documentary revealing shocking details of the murder of Daniella Perez, brazilian actress and daughter of famous telenovelas author Gloria Perez.

Bom Dia, Verônica
(2020)

The best Brazilian series on Netflix so far
Love this show! The plot is captivating, great actors, I would recommend it to those who love crime thrillers.

Mary J Blige's My Life
(2021)

Great docu about Mary's early career
Im afraid 90% of the audience who leave here 2-3 points for My Life didn't get the main concept of this movie. It's not about all MJB's splendid careers. It's about some most challenging years in her life and it completely shows why she recorded My Life - imho, her best album ever and I agree with Mary, it's so perfect and dark at the same time - but it's very real. The movie was released as part of 25th anniversary of My Life. With several vinyl reissues (and I've got one). I had no clue about Mary's early life so It was very interesting for me. Btw, Mary is another proof there's no such phenomenon as "systemic racism", because if that thing was real, poor black talented girl from the project would never be able to sell 2 platinum albums by 20 yo, she would be never allowed to make million and become the US show business queen. Because if there really was that "systemic racism", she would be forced to stay in her project forever. But luckily she is a very hardworking, focused and very wise person, and I admire MJB.

Obychnaya zhenshchina
(2018)

One of the best Russian series over the past couple years
Absolutely breathtaking story, brilliant Anna Mikhalkova as "an ordinary Russian woman" who turned out to be not so ordinary after all.

Vale Tudo
(1988)

Actually the best Brazilian telenovela
Real masterpiece! Despite it was filmed in 1988, it's still going fresh and captures you from the first episode. The main asset, of course, is dona Odete Almeida Roitman - officially the most famous villain in the history of Brazilian soap operas, brilliant work of Beatriz Segall. Some of her expressions I know by heart - "Eu gosto do Brasil, é uma beleza, mas só de longe, no cartão postal! Essa terra aquí não tem jeito meu bem, esse povo não vai pra frente... Povo preguiçoso, que so se fala em crise..." (I like Brazil, it's beautiful, but only from a distance, on a postcard! This country is a dead-end, these people don't want to go forward. Lazy people, who only talk about the crisis"

Lisey's Story
(2021)

Too slow, too much unnecessary violence
Another failure to adapt Steven King's novel for screen. The story is definitely a mess, I started watching it because I love Julianna Moore, but even she can't save it. After the 4th episode I decided to stop watching it - too much graphic violence, and the plot makes no sense. Sorry, I'll pass it.

Pose
(2018)

Season 1 was amazing, 2nd was a bit worse - but the 3rd is a disappointment
I absolutely loved the 1st season of Pose. Amazing stories, amazing actors, I fell in love with Electra... The 2nd season was a bit worse, had some inconsistency, but still I loved it. But excuse me, what happened with the authors by the third season? I was alright till the episode 4 (I guess) which was completely dedicated to Billy Porter's character, and it was awful. Why do you need to say that Black people don't have self-respect because they worship white Jesus? This is such an ugly and extremist-left rhetoric, why do you need to spoil this amazing series with this divisive stuff? Disappointment. I'm glad there was happy end, but the 3rd season definitely didn't bring any added value to Pose, that's why I give it 8, not 10 points - considering how amazing was the 1st season.

O Bem-Amado
(1973)

Amazingly plausible Brazil's portrait
Just finished watching O Bem-Amado as it was featured on Globoplay - Globo streaming app. I was pleasantly surprised by its dialogues, outstanding plot, very fine satire - all in all it's a masterpiece which absolutely didn't age, as Brazil still faces the same challenges like in 1973.

A Próxima Vítima
(1995)

Definitely one of the best Brazilian telenovlas
A Proxima Vitima was very popular in Russia in mid-1990s, when Russians were enchanted by brazilian soap operas. Thrilling plot based on the series of murders makes this novela unique in its kind, as it's the only Brazilian telenovela-police detective. It's in my personal Top-3, along with Vale Tudo and Escrava Isaura.
