Avenue 5
(2020)

made me kind of sad
I love Hugh Laurie's work, been doing do for as long as the Blackadder serie. That's why I've watched this show. And from the start, something was amiss, I couldn't say what, but everything seemed kinda weird. Then I got it. It's the scenario. Nothing does make sense. I mean, space cruiser, ok. Some problem making everything go wrong, why not. But why oh why a fake captain and a fake crew ? It doesn't make any f... sense. Zach Woods seems lost, his character isn't funny, it's just pathetic. Same for more or less everybody else. And what with the weird hairdos at control center ? No, really, I don't get it. I love british humour, but it's not british humour. I understand american humour, but that's not it. Heck, I even get Asian humour, or French, or whatever. But this show is just not funny. Because the story is flawed at heart. Or maybe it's some kind of parabole about the world captained by Trump, wich is about as much a president as Hugh Laurie is a captain ? I dunno, but whatever, it's not funny, and I'm sorry for the crew because I with them well, it's not against them, just against the writers.

Le retour du héros
(2018)

Very good!
At least, a good movie that I've seen from head to toe without a second of boreness, and with a stupid grin on my face. I'm tired of all those formated movies, where you know the end from the first image on, because it's so conventional and obvious, because you've seen it a thousand times already... Here, nothing of the sort. A funny story, a perfect interpretation, a cunning ending... No, really, it's been a long time since I had seen a movie that good. I'll see it again with pleasure !

The Eagle
(2011)

Why?
I was pretty interested in watching this movie, because I became quite fond of Roman stuff with the Spartacus serial. The question is, why oh why, at a moment, do I have the impression that I'm watching a movie about the Iroquois? The Picts used to paint themselves when going to war, quite true. But I doubt very much that they had an Iroquois' hairdo, lived in Indian's huts, and danced Indian's dances around the fire, with Indian's kind of spears. That really messed up the whole movie for me, and that's quite a shame because up to this point it was an enjoyable experience, the actors are great, the story not bad, the acting excellent, the ambiance pretty much believable (but for the first battle but oh well, after all why not). I'm quite disappointed by this... I don't even know how to name it... Hollywood-style mistake? Otherwise the movie is pretty good. Pity that this kind of detail kinda spoils everything in my opinion.

Glenn, the Flying Robot
(2010)

Oh boy... sigh...
Good ideas don't always make good movies... At least not when the movie has a bad direction. There are extremely painful moments, for example when the robot plays the piano, and we see his hands... which are playing nothing like what we hear. And there are a lot of incoherences : robots don't blink 'cause the don't have to. Flying without the slightest noise? Impossible. Does a robot needs to mark the rhythm moving like Ray Charles when it plays the piano? I don't think so... and so on. Long story short, the acting is pretty bad, the dialogs are mediocre, the story is foreseeable, and the so-called special effects... well, better not to say anything about it, the cup is full already.

I must say I'm really sad about it all. I wanted to watch this movie, I like the principal actor, and I love movies about music (like "the legend of 1900" or "Shine", which I enjoyed immensely). I have no idea what happened here. Lack of budget? A first movie by a young greenhorn wannabe film maker? A thing is obvious though, the directing is bad. The good intentions fail to crystallize in a movie, if not good, at least watchable until the end. Thing that, I must admit, I didn't manage to stand but in fast forward motion.

It's sooo sad...

1 1/2 Ritter - Auf der Suche nach der hinreißenden Herzelinde
(2008)

Excellent funny movie
Well I must say first that lately I've become bored with movies. Kind of an overdose, really, with at least one or two movies a day for the last 3 years. Always the same plots, the same actors, the same styles, the same politically correct and, well, the same everything. So I saw this one thinking that it was going to be the same... again. And boy was I wrong! Of course, there are some "deja vu" things here : the spirit of Shrek, a scene from François Ier with Fernandel, some souvenirs from Princess Bride, some from Kaamelott... But all witty and with good rhythm, and curiously, somehow new. I loved the actors, all unknown to me (though strangely it's been like I've known them forever instantly) but all very good at their part, the casting is outstanding because every character is just so perfectly what you'd expect him/her to be, Lanze wear so seriously his ridiculous hairdo, the Black Knight is so charming, the king so good, the bad one so creepy, the princess so spoiled yet lovable... Anyway, I've spent a very entertaining moment, and I wasn't able to stop before the end, nor did I want to do so, though this has happened to me countless times for other movies lately. It's very well acted, and everything in it just feels right. For me, it's an instant classic. A great and lovable movie, really.

Marie Antoinette
(2006)

Why did I vote so low
Well... The music of this movie is just plain wrong. You just cannot show the court of Versailles featuring queen Marie-Antoinette and salt the thing with electric guitar, it's not only out of place, it's also insufferable and that's a shame, because if it wasn't for the music this movie could be a real great one, it has a very good photography, the actors are good, but unfortunately none of this manage to counteract the fact that you don't use electric music with a film like this one. It doesn't make it "modern", it just make it indigestible. I think that the story could be more interesting too, because if we get the feel of how boring it was to live in this golden cage, it's very possible to end thinking that the movie itself is boring... It's a nice painting, maybe, but it's certainly not a masterpiece, IMHO.
