Knock at the Cabin
(2023)

If you don't walk away from this movie and think about it for days, you weren't paying attention
There are an embarrassing amount of people starting out their review with "I don't like M Night movies and I didn't like this..." That's like me rating - a non sports person - giving the Super Bowl one star. Of course I hated it. I hate football. Good grief.

This movie is for thinkers. People who can reflect on it for days and then want watch it again with new eyes. Yes, the end is obvious but the end is not the point of the movie and if you think it is - you missed it completely. Subtext. It's all about subtext. Like so many things that are outside the norm, are. Worth watching, at least twice.

It wasn't the first one but that's okay
This first one was it's own type of magic and we can't expect a repeat of that. This one did a wonderful job of showing us how the happily ever after is not as happy as we expect and that's okay. There were a ton of Easter eggs, some wonderful emotional moments and quite a few laugh out loud moments. The animation scenes in Andulasia weren't great. I think technology was the problem there, they should have brought it back down to match 15 years ago. The biggest let down, though, were the songs. There were no songs to take away from it. Which sucks because the first one had three big powerhouse songs we walked out of the theatre singing.

I still loved it. I'm just singing "Happy Working Song" still instead of a new song.

Black Widow

Don't listen to the grumbling.
Just go see it in theaters. Don't let the haters form your opinions for you.

Chaos Walking
(2021)

Doesn't deserve the hate
I bought the books 30 minutes after I finished the movies. Are there unanswered questions? Yes. It's a trilogy. Is it muddy? Yes. So is life. But the concept is also really wonderful and I want to explore the idea more.

Cruella
(2021)

Everything and more
Don't believe the bad reviews. I read them. They can't decide if she's too strong or too weak, too boring or too loud, too feminist or not enough. I think 85% of them were written by scared little men and the other 15% by the women who fill up their coffee and get their slippers. Sit down children, Cruella is here and she is AMAZING.

The soundtrack was brilliant. Jasper and Horace were absolutely perfect. The fashion is gorgeous. The 70s London punk is on point. Cruella teetering on the brink between sanity and madness is everything.

And what's more? Emma Stone does the unthinkable in this - she outshines the magnificent Emma Thompson. Well done my dear, well done.

People who don't like cheesy horror movies shouldn't be allowed to rate them
Plot holes? Yes. Unrealistic situations? Yes. Too much gore? Yes. You know what that makes it? A perfect cheesy horror movie and if that's not what you're looking for - don't watch it. You won't like it. I loved it. It was great. The perfect cheesy horror movie and the cast was awesome. Rainn Wilson is especially fantastic.

If you are a fancy pants person who thinks cheesy horror movies are lame - please stop watching them, down rating them, and reviewing them. You're the worst. Take your snobbery over to the foreign film section that you don't even actually like and grace them with your reviews - please be sure to mention the 2 film classes you took at a community college because that makes you an expert.

Spontaneous
(2020)

Unexpected - like exploding.
I went in thinking it was going to be teenage campy horror (just what my daughter and I like) but then, it was very real, eerily similar to how teenagers felt during the covid quarantine of 2020 (especially since it was made BEFORE 2020) and incredibly deep. The humor was dark, the cast was wonderfully diverse and the feels were.....felt, a lot. If you have one, I suggest watching it with your teenager.

The Wilds

I think the bad reviews were written by toxic men
Any female driven movie or show is rated way lower than it should be because there are so many men who think it's their sole purpose in life to keep women in their place. Which is quite ironic considering that this show isn't about hating men, it's about not allowing that kind of toxic patriarchy to destroy our lives as women.

If the patriarchy has ever affected you, if you are a teenage girl, if you are the parent of a teenage girl or if you just like shows that delve into the incredibly complex minds of teenage girls - watch this. It's not perfect, there are a few wobbly bits but it's 2020 and life is like that. I really enjoyed it, I recommended it to others, I'm coming back for season 2 - even with the plot holes in the finale.

Women - watch it, men who aren't afraid of women - watch it. Men who are just here to make sure that female shows don't get good ratings - we've had enough of you, you're cancelled.

Captain Marvel
(2019)

Don't listen to the fanboys
This wasn't a 10 but I'm so tired of the fanboys driving down reviews. There are literally thousands of them that say 1/10. It was awesome, don't listen to them. Go see it.

Khan kluay
(2006)

Yes, the cover is misleading
I was prepared to not watch this movie with my 4 year old son. It looks really lame on the cover. I was half watching, half reading until I saw the bandits. I closed my book and watched in awe as a beautiful Chinese fable unfolded on the screen. The elephants and humans don't speak to each other but they try to understand each other and everyone learns several real life lessons: Yes fighting is bad and we shouldn't do it, but sometimes you must defend your country and your family....your freedom.

The blue elephant's mother tells him that fighting is bad but then when he is in the middle of a war he fights for what is important to him. This is a wonderful movie to use as a teaching tool for children who have family members in the service, to teach young children that they should not hit but that they shouldn't take a beating also....."is it worth it to get into a fist fight over a toddler toy at preschool - NO, but if someone is hurting you then you can defend yourself." It also works as a defense against adults - if a child understand bullying and tyranny they are more likely to fight against it.

a wonderful movie, especially if you use it as a learning tool.
