M3GAN
(2022)

I thought it was good
This is a parable for AI. It even can be thought of as looking into the power others have over us. I mean I just let my cat in the door and I suddenly got a chill that this sentient being is in my house. How about when Megan takes over the drudgery of parenting "flush the toilet Cady" "wash your hands" "roll up your sleeves" repeated every time. Sounds good but how far to take the protective parenting. The boss of toy company Funki has some hilarious lines. I thought this was great! We really are going to get robots like this you know, if we don't have them already like Alexa! Fantastic movie!

Crisis in Six Scenes
(2016)

Miley Cyrus is really good!
This show grows on you. The jokes are funny and the actors are excellent. I thought Mikey Cyrus was perfect with her hair in sixties style, long and straight with her deep voice calling Woody Allen an idiot, so funny! The series juxtaposes strait laced people who go along with the law with anarchists. Who is right after all, those who want to keep living as always or those who want to tear down society and start over. I think they set it in the sixties so it's not complicated. In some ways those were simpler times so the juxtaposition can be explored without all the complications we have nowadays. Loved it!

American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders
(2024)

Scary to think of hit men involved with US government
This is really scary and I'm sure it's true, why not kill anyone who gets in your way, when you're the US government? It's effective and efficient. Now for my pet peeve, please get rid of ringing telephones. I know it's a sound effect, not a real ringing phone. Editors just plopped it in there and upped the volume. Landlines and mobile phones rang out startling me as I was engrossed in this above average, cool and mysterious documentary about a book that would have been really great if Danny ever lived to publish it! I've watched and read about the CIA. In the past they definitely used dirty tricks. Fantastic documentary!

Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers
(2024)

Interesting. exciting and really good!
Get taken away into the world of the Newport mansions, the olden days, with lovely dresses and a backstabbing mystery. The plot was good, acting was excellent. The scenery is beautiful with a garden party at the cliffs. Historical references are accurate and there is humor too. What more could you want for a fun watch! If you love Newport, Rhode Island you'll enjoy this tale of murder. See inside the mansions, and out on Newport city streets. A well done murder mystery. A feast for the eyes. The details are amazing in the fashions and the scenery. I highly recommend. All in all, hard to find any fault!

6ixtynin9: The Series
(2023)

Wow! Fantastic! Funny!
This series portrays Thai culture to the max! There is bribery with bags of money. There is an insurance company where the employees wear orange jackets. During the pandemic, in Thailand insurance companies almost went broke with all the Covid insurance payments they had to make. One did go bankrupt. The government had to force them to make payments. In the series they mention the saying "juh jai jop." It doesn't translate as funny in English "get Covid, insurance pays, end." All this from real life was used in the series, although it doesn't translate well. However in the Thai language it is hilarious. TH Dave Chaichanbutr as Sonny is great! He is in the police force in real life. He's not an actor! All the actors did an excellent job. The series had subtle humor and reflected the many quirks of Thai life, from people playing chess all day in a parking garage, to the different groups wearing different color uniforms, to the giggling girls who turn nasty - but it's so funny! Of course, meanwhile, protests are going on. Director Pen-Ek Ratanaruan did a magnificent job, especially since this is a remake of his old movie. He made it into so much more. It's great!

The Resort
(2022)

The actors are really great
The actors in The Resort are a level above. The standout actors are William Jackson Harper, Luis Gerardo Mendez, and Nick Offerman. I recognized William Jackson Harper right away as Chidi from The Good Place. He's just so good! Luis Gerardo Mendez is a big star in Mexico, and Nick Offerman is so understated and funny. He will be in Dumb Money, coming soon. Compare this to You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah starring Adam Sandler and his daughters. The Resort has different levels of humor, from laugh out loud to snickering at something subtle. It keeps moving along with different levels of humor and different levels of mystery. Whereas Bat Mitzvah is joke after joke thrown at you loudly and crudely. It was funny but didn't have that edge that The Resort has in spades. The Resort is fantastic!

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah
(2023)

Funny but schmaltzy
"Definitions of schmaltz. (Yiddish) excessive sentimentality in art or music. Type of: drippiness, mawkishness, mushiness, sentimentality, sloppiness, soupiness. Falsely emotional in a maudlin way." I enjoyed the movie but it was just a series of jokes rapid fire one after the other. The plot needed more substance, even though the actors were great. There were a few interesting subplots. It just didn't have that magic quality that makes you care. Also some humor was a little crude, I blame Adam Sandler for that. He seems like he has no filter. Also there was too much about the Jewish religion, it was almost a religious movie.

Licorice Pizza
(2021)

Danny Partridge
The lead actor is similar to Danny Bonaduce of The Partridge Family, in other words a chubby red haired precocious nerd. He's 15. We are expected to believe that a pretty 25 year old girl takes an interest in him. The movie is the idea of filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. I guess we know what his fantasies are - having a pretty girl like you even though you are weird, chubby, with a bad haircut to boot. A yucky movie. It's also startling in the beginning to see the 25 year old played by Alana Haim, arrive home to find her family watching TV and they all look like her. How did they get actresses who look exactly like the lead actress? Turns out her whole family is in the movie. A waste of time.

Behind Her Eyes
(2021)

First two episodes were good
There is no chemistry between David and Adele. Why would he fall for her? She's no femme fatale. She schleps around her apartment and work and taking her kid to school, without any joie de vive. The only actor I liked was Rob. The whole thing just didn't work. The characters were too unlikeable, except Rob in rehab. He was great, even though he looked a little old for a teenager.

Shadowlands
(1993)

Wimpy main character CS Lewis
They made the main character a wimp, a drip, timid. He doesn't stand up to his friends, his brother or "the American" Joy. He is a milquetoast as they would say in England. Joy is portrayed as out of her element so she snipes and complains, and insults his friends in an annoying New York nasal voice. In real life, C.S. Lewis must have had more gumption than this! And in the beginning it says this is a true story. There is no romance or chemistry. Anthony Hopkins was better as Ford in Westworld where he was commanding and emotional.

Bad Boy Billionaires: India
(2020)

Superb
These episodes bring financial crime to life. Fantastic, loved all the episodes. The film makers did a wonderful job. Not one dull moment!

Ungodly Acts
(2015)

Gripping true story
The acting was good. However no character had any likability, or any redeeming feature. Other than that, it held my attention until the end.

Liz & Dick
(2012)

Stellar performances by all
Lindsey Lohan and Grant Bowler make the roles their own, giving natural performances that ring true. The makeup and costumes are excellent. The movie is inspired in that it starts with them talking and reminiscing then works up to the present time (death of Richard Burton). Some shocking things portrayed in the movie are that they relied on their families, drank excessively, and each of them got bent out of shape and took it out on the other, over and over. Can you imagine being a star and right near you, there is always "mom". Liz's mother and Richard's brother Ifor are well acted. Also excellent are the characters of the business manager, the director, Sybil, and the kids. I highly recommend this movie. It is a spellbinding drama. There is a chemistry between all the actors. It is a unique story that could only have taken place in the 60's and 70's, in Europe and the U.S. It was realistic, engaging and well acted. The accents are natural, the acting is real. I loved it. I think Lindsey Lohan has amazing talent. She is natural and sweet. You can imagine what 'Liz' and 'Dick' saw in each other, and get a glimpse of what the whole world was enthralled with all those years ago.

Amy & Isabelle
(2001)

Excellent movie!!!
Amy and Isabelle is the best movie I've seen in a long time. It's comparable to a classic like The Scarlet Letter (novel). This movie has layers of meaning and it really makes you think. Loved it!!! It takes place during a hot summer in a mill town. It's all about women's work and women's lives, fantastic!!!
