The Bear: Fishes
(2023)
Episode 6, Season 2

Gut Punch Christmas Episode
The episode starts off with Darlene Love's " All alone at Christmas," which is one of my favorite Xmas songs. But because it's so upbeat you may miss the sad lyrics.

I turn to my partner when we start this episode and say, "We should add this to our holiday episode list!" He says, "let's wait and see because this might not be a 'feel good' Christmas special."

It was not. So chaotic and many amazing performances by the core and guest actors. An absolute gut punch of a Family Christmas Dinner. I did enjoy that Sarah Paulson played a more relaxed character given how chaotic the Berzatto family is.

The show of a dinner provided critical insight into Mikey's mental health and why Carmy and his sister prefer to keep an arms length away from their relatives.

Dream Home Makeover
(2020)

She has specific taste but there are unique aspects to this show!
Some have mentioned that everything looks the same in all of her designs. That's her brand lol. Every design show is like that. I don't always love her styles for me personally but her clients do. That's the point. What I like about this show is that Shea is honest when she doesn't think or know how to do something for her client. Granted she always figures it out.

I also enjoy how she explains her design methods and choices. I feel as though she's trying to educate her viewers but doesn't use too much high-level design jargon.

I also like that we get to see and hear from the construction team. They do the grunt work and I enjoy hearing from them in addition to seeing the work they do.

Lastly, the episode in season 3 with Mary is so good. What a beautiful human!

Blonde
(2022)

I turned it off after an hour and 30 minutes
This film reminded me of Spencer. Solid transformation of actors to their character's likeness but everything else was horrible. The constant switching from black and white to color was odd.

The storyline wasn't seamless and I get that sometimes is on purpose but it was not done creatively or way that made the film unique.

Other reviews have touched on the films exploitive nature. I do have to agree and it makes me think of the recent HBO documentary into the death of Brittany Murphy. Please just let these women rest and celebrate their careers by watching their movies.

I'm not sure where the feminist angle is (as the director and Netflix have advertised)? It's truly just a collection of images which is what my one star review represents. But Andrew Dominik, did we need these images? I do not think so.

The Girl from Plainville
(2022)

Who is for?

I watched the first three episodes feeling seriously disturbed by Elle's portrayal of Michelle. AT FIRST- I didn't mind some of the artistic choices that showcased teenage love but the show became more about dramatizing parts of Michelle's and Conrad's relationship that we're artistically taken too far.

I'd add that I was the same age as these two individuals when the news broke of Michelle's arrest. I saw how the court of public opinion vilified her and that's not to say she isn't guilty of coercing a vulnerable person into a fatal action. She did that and I believed the court proved that but I wanted to know how they got there. That became a small part of the show when it started as the main focus.

Colton Ryan posted to his Instagram that the show was about and was for Conrad. But was it? I don't think so. The artistic choices and intimate scenes that went (in my opinion) too far I don't think had him in mind. So I wonder why those choices were made. I kept asking who is this for? Why was this made then?

The acting was solid but the pace and how they imagined their relationship felt odd.
