  • Terrific Movie...read Ced Yuen's review

I'd never heard of this movie before I saw it in the Redbox. OMG...what a terrific cast!! Giammati, Purefoy, Cox, Flemyng, Dance, Mara....and Jacobi...I couldn't believe the folks that kept appearing in the movie...and they all have meaningful roles and solid scriptwriting. And I was beside myself when Vladimir Kulich showed up....he stole the damn movie in 13th Warrior...I wish they'd given him a larger role here; hell, I wish he'd get more roles (the man can act)! Paul Giamati gives an Oscar worthy rant about the birthright of kings towards the end of the movie that crystallizes just how far we've come from the assumption set of superstition that ruled human behavior for millenia...and is right beneath the surface waiting to come out. And everything Purefoy touches is lucky to have him....if you've never seen Rome, see it....he should have won an Emmy for Marc Antony....honorable, lost, brilliant, greedy and decadent all wrapped into one. The story is pretty darn good too....the writer's tried to keep this in the zone historically and did a more than fair job. The violence is the most realistic I've seen (not for the under 12 crowd...even folks under 21 may get squeamish)....but if you want to see 13th century etiquette up close and personal...then step right up! Just an incredibly pleasant surprise. Definitely one for the video library.

  • I think we all agree....it's about time for a sequel

After just finishing watching this wonderful movie with my wife, and 3 year old and 10 year old little boys, I wanted to see if a sequel was contemplated.

Unfortunately, it looks as if Warner Brothers is intent on making two mistakes....first poorly marketing the original, and then failing to see how this movie has been embraced by thousands who know better than their marketing department and see the value of this simply inspiring, heart warming film.

It's amazing to me that to contrast the talent that made this movie with the clumsiness that marketed it. Simply astonishing.

Sadly, I doubt we can get Warner to see the error of their ways and to make an investment in a sequel. But at least I can add my words to the chorus already here so that folks who are contemplating purchasing the movie are reassured that they will not be disappointed.

  • A Song To Remember

I was walking around the kitchen on a sunny April morning in Upstate NY (a rare thing) and for some reason the song "Run Appaloosa Run" popped into my head.....as it has done so every 8-9 months or so over the last 35 years. Having a moment to spare, I decided to do a search on "Run Appaloosa" and lo-and-behold was carried to IMDb where others who were touched by this movie so many years ago have left a portion of their memories with us. Although I doubt any of the earlier writers will return to view responses to their comments, I want you all to know that I thank you....I thank you for the gift of your words. For some reason, I always thought I was a little nuts in remembering this jingle, and now for some other reason I'm crying....go figure. Once again, thank you.
