QUIZarenaLIVE: The Mortuary Assistant Special Event
(2022)

Laugh Until You Cry
I haven't laughed so hard in my life! I had tears streaming down my face as I tuned in to watch Richard Lovegrove play through The Mortuary Assistant demo with Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons and Michael Smart a.k.a Lux Voco.

I haven't been this entertained by a gaming streamer in a long time.

Loaded with jump scares, this live stream was hilarious as they jumped and screamed when sinister and strange things began happening in the morgue.

The highlight of the stream was watching Rhiannon have a heart attack when a frog attacked her backdoor.

I personally would love to see the QUIZarenaLIVE team do more gaming streams. The banter they have between each other while working together to get through the game is just so enjoyable to watch.

I hope they do another live stream when the full game becomes available.

QUIZarenaLIVE: NYE Special 2021 A Year in Hindsight
(2021)

Ringing In The New Year with QUIZarenaLIVE
There was nothing better than to ring in the New Year (2022) with Richard Lovegrove and Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons.

This special event saw our favourite hosts teaming up to shoot the breeze about a varying array of topics ranging from the history of Sydney to musicals and even theme parks. It was the first time we as long-term viewers got to see Richard and Rhiannon in a more natural environment. They always work well with each other, but this special felt more like hanging out with old friends.

Added bonus is the giveaway for an online escape room they were giving away for one lucky viewer.

If you want to see Richard and Rhiannon without the gimmicks of QUIZarenaLIVE, check out this NYE special.

Xmastravaganza: QUIZarenaLIVE Special Event
(2021)

Festive Fun
Just before Christmas, QUIZarenaLIVE host, Richard Lovegrove, and veteran QUIZarenaLIVE guest star, Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons, called on past guests of his show to take on a new escape room adventure.

Teaming up with Cameron Dunn and Michael Woodbridge (Woody's Here), they packed their bags ready for Expedition North Pole.

The escape room was entertaining as they struggled with puzzles and code cracking with each member of the team contributing to the event. I personally loved watching Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons claim she wasn't smart only for her to turn around in the next breath and solve a mathematical algorithm with ease.

After the escape room was finished, they turned their attention to trivia with 20 questions all about past episodes of QUIZarenaLIVE. The first 5 questions were asked by Richard Lovegrove as they all joked around and went off on tangents. The final quiz had 15 questions, with some of the questions leaving the guests and viewers in hysterics.

As much as I love Escaping Halloween (The Underground Murder), I think I enjoyed the festivities of Expedition North Pole more. A hilarious viewing experience.

Escaping Halloween: QUIZarenaLIVE Special Event
(2021)

Surviving Halloween
When four past guests of QUIZarenaLIVE meet up with host Richard Lovegrove, hilarity is guaranteed.

With some heavy hitters of QUIZarenaLIVE Season One, Richard lead his guests to a crime scene in the subway for Virtual Escaping's Underground Murder.

Once there, the guests which included Piotr Wasilewski, Steve Maresca, Robert Woods, and the newly crowned Season One champion, Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons, were encouraged to study each room to solve clues in order to progress.

Watching them use open dialogue to figure out codes or express their frustrations about overthinking added a human aspect to the show and provided a lot of entertainment.

The team selected got along well and let's face it, the reason we tune in is to watch the banter between them. Despite Richard being host, Piotr took control of the group.

Each member of the group pulled their weight when it came to solving puzzles. The fact that this was live streamed also meant that people watching were also able to help.

For the first special event of QUIZarenaLIVE, this was enjoyable. Highly recommend watching it if you want to check out what a virtual escape room is like.

Under the Covers
(2022)

Seductive Entertainment
When Richard and Rhiannon slide under the covers, a sexy good time is had by all. They are the perfect couple to host raunchy reviews. Richard has a charismatic boyish charm that is intoxicating while Rhiannon is an expert in seduction, being an erotic writer for over 20 years.

When they pool their collective thoughts, it is comedy gold. Their reviews are insightful, not just about the porn aspects of the film, but the filmmaking side of things too. And if you're lucky, they'll do another musical episode where they will burst into song.

A highly entertaining show that is well worth the price tag to view per month.

Malvolia: The Queen of Screams
(2017)

The Female Of The Species Is More Deadly Than The Male
Malvolia, the Queen of Screams is a phenomenal web series that shows independent series can be highly inventive.

Jennifer Nangle stars as the titular hostess, introducing viewers to the dark world of Malvolia and her diabolical band of misfits.

Each episode is designed to thrill you. And the specials of Halloween, Thankskilling, and Christmas are never to be missed.

A solid series. Quite entertaining.

Asylum
(2016)

Spooky Short
While not the most polished independent short I've seen, the story is solid. Written by horror author, Rhiannon Elizabeth Irons, the characters are solid, though we don't get to meet them as in-depth in the film version as we do with the original story.

Rhiannon doubles up the effort by starring in the film, her first role since her retirement from acting back in 2008. Her performance is solid. The whole cast is quite solid. The only weak link is probably Jarred Nielsen as Bric, but that might have been a character choice.

What the short has in spirit, it lacks in technical aspects. It's very dark, with spotty lighting, and sound quality is terrible. If this was ever redone, and these problems rectified, it would be a solid short, possible feature-length.

Overall it's an enjoyable 10 minute film if you can look beyond the obvious problems. Incredible story, and the whole POV shot really draws us into the story.

Submerged
(2011)

Had Potential
Following two sisters who move to the small town of Willow Point, Submerged is a convoluted plot that feels unfinished and rushed.

One of the sisters, Lindsay, is seventeen and has a 'gift' where she can see things before they happen.

So when she starts taking photos of her new location, she begins to see bodies in the river and is haunted by the town's dark past.

Naturally we are gifted flashbacks which sees a young man murdering two young women through the art of drowning them.

For me, the flashbacks were the best part of this film. Richard Lovegrove is sensational as the silent killer, Danny Miller. His presence is chilling and easily is one of the better actors in this production. His menacing stare and cold, calculating moves definitely sets the tone for a chilling villain.

Too bad once he departs the role in favour of Peter McAllum, the character loses his spark.

Points are awarded to Ben Crawford as Jake too. He was pretty decent in his role, even though we weren't supposed to like him.

The ending was anti-climatic, building the tension well but having no big bang. It feels as though they set the film up for a sequel, yet no sequel was ever made.

Ideally, an additional 10 minutes tacked on the end to give a more satisfying conclusion would have been ideal.

A hot mess of a film that has its moments and potential. Worth the watch? Not really, but if you're going to watch it, don't take it too seriously.
