Salem's Lot
(2024)

Boring & Disappointing
I am a horror movie and book junkie. I never expect these movies to be too scary but at least decent. Salem's Lot 1979 was very good and scary for the time period it was made in. Salem's Lot 2004 was amazing, you felt you knew every character and was invested into what happen to them. The characters in Salem's Lot 2024 has no depth. There is no one to invest emotions into; You don't like or dislike them; you never get to know them. The master Stephen King himself handed them a magnificent book as a guide; they had a whole book and still managed to mangle it. The story lines is so empty. It's just big gapping pieces of important story lines missing. The first three times I tried to watch I fell asleep. The fourth try I got through it but fought to stay awake it was so boring. It's so many characters that was missing or had little to no story line. Salem Lot 2024 cannot even come close to the greatness of 2004 version. They should have stuck to that script. We waited a long time only to be disappointed.

The Cleansing Hour
(2019)

Hidden Gem
I am a horror junkie so it's October so I figured I could dig deep and find something I hadn't watched before which is hard to do. This movie is really good. The acting was superb everyone did well in their role. The plot twist was different and the story was very well told. As we all know the majority of horror movies suck these days this one isn't new but is really good. Normally these movies are predictable but this one was not. I had no idea what the ending would be and just when I thought I had it figured out I knew nothing. The cleansing hour is a hidden gem in a sea of horrors. I am surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Certainly worth watching. I have watched twice and planning on watching again.

Arcadian
(2024)

Something to pass the time
The acting was great but the movie lacked all substance. I am a horror junkie and was expecting much more. The creatures were lackluster and not scary. The movie never truly unfolded and the characters were never developed. The viewer doesn't even get to form a like or don't like opinion because nothing is there. By the end of the movie we are left not knowing anything more about the creatures and the only thing we know about the people are their relations. The dad sacrificing himself at the end was ridiculous and unnecessary and unrealistic. This is good movie to watch if you don't have anything else and want to pass time. If you are looking for a good horror movie this isn't it.

Tyler Perry's Divorce in the Black
(2024)

Worth watching Good but Cliche
Cory Harding was simply outstanding! His portrayal of Dallas was creepy and disturbingly good. Cory's acting; not the script made the character real. We all have met a Dallas. The majority of the cast delivered. Ursula O Robinson aka Linda was also outstanding; just a beast. Her performance was scary. She needed more screen time. The movie should have shown their family past and how she raised her kids. The movie was intense and then it took a "lifetime" nose dive. Towards the end it became cliche& predictable; Tyler played it safe only letting the bad guy die. It should have been an all out war with the families once Dallas died. The movie was good but could have been great it got predictable and cliche but that's all movies these days.

Skeletons in the Closet
(2024)

Horribly Slow & Confussing
I am a horrible movie fanatic so I saw the cast and felt this was a must see. The movie has too many excellent actors in it to be this horrible. The issue isn't the acting but the movie itself. I cannot find one positive aspect. I try to be fair when reviewing but other than having well known actors there is nothing good about it. The movie starts out fairly exciting but fizzles quickly. It gets muddled and confusing. It's too many things happening and nothing being explained. The first time I watched it I figured I was doing other things I must have missed something. I gave it all of my attention the second time and it was miserable and slow. I felt it was a waste of time. I wouldn't recommend.

Possessions
(2024)

Disappointed
I wanted so badly for this movie to be good. It never really took off. It was long drawn out scenes to make up for lack of storylines. The movie had no real substance. The son and father relationship wasn't developed enough to feel a real connection. The therapist knowing the child wasn't insane but trying to put him away was senseless. The pastor witholding information from the beginning didn't make sense. The Dad was blinded to all going on around him. It's like he didn't care. The movie fell flat. The acting wasn't bad it was just a poorly written and cliche movie. Unfortunately, it's just not worth watching.

Mea Culpa
(2024)

A fun mysterious thrill ride
I enjoyed the movie so much I am watching it again today and probably a few more times. Tyler's talent has evolved with movies like A Jazzman's Blues and Mea Culpa. He has taken his talents to a higher level. The movie was sexy and mysterious. The majority of the actors were great. Kelly Rowland & Trevante Rhodes were simply outstanding. Their chemistry was very strong. Ronreaco Lee was a good supporting actor. He played his role as friend and pi convincingly. Angela Robinson had a small but powerful role and was fantastic. Kerry O'Malley was brilliant. Normally, I figure out movies early on but this time I didn't. The writer did a good job of keeping the audience engaged but not giving everything away. Everything I thought I knew was wrong. I loved the mystic of it all. The movie was easy to understand & exciting. I love the plot. Everything was sewn up nicely by the end.

The Exorcists
(2023)

Best Horror Of The Year!
This is hands down the best horror movie of the year. The Boogeyman, Pet Sematary & Insidious all fell flat. The movie is creepy and moves at a nice pace. It has action and is scary when it needs to be. They didn't overdo it. The scares are genuine they aren't cheap scares just to fill the storyline or for shock value. The scares don't overshadow the storyline which is welcoming. The characters and acting is superb. The plot and the ending was not predictable but very disturbing. I think many or just upset that the good guys don't always win and everyone doesn't always make it. If you don't like this movie you just had to try hard not to. If you are a true horror fan and like classic horror movies that make sense you will love it. I was surprised by the poor reviews not sure what they were watching but this movie is just as good as the original Exorcists. Pop some popcorn and enjoy.

The Nun II
(2023)

Good movie; better than the first
This movie was much better than Nun I. The characters were likable. Maurice was very charming and you wanted him to make it. I liked the way they connected everything with part I. They should have shown more of the killings leading up to her finding out the demon was using him. I think that's why some viewers found it slow moving and lacking action. The movie was more than cheap scares it was a solid storyline with a good plot is what made the movie. I wasn't crazy about the St. Lucy eyes storyline but they made it work. It's a solid movie with a point. The movie has a clear beginning middle and end. It's worth watching. I have watched it at least 8 times. I only watched the first one twice.

Still Here
(2023)

Good movie worth watching.
The movie is a thriller with good acting and strong character development. The characters looked like real people not a hot mess like in many Tubi movies. They did a good job of allowing viewers to see the dynamic of the two main characters; as well as how things unraveled. They did an excellent job of not leaving loose ends. The movie was intriguing with a clever plot. The characters were very evolved at some moments you will love them & others you will hate them. It was refreshing that the movie had a clear beginning, middle and end which is rare these days. The only thing that could have been better is if they had shown how he and his friend the bartender became so close.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines
(2023)

Disappointing
I am a Stephen King fan. The books and majority of movies are great. The actors were great. The only true chemistry was the sister & brother duo. The movie is horrid and disappointing. I wanted it to be good and kept waiting for it to catch up; It never did. I think they went too far away from the things that made the franchise good to begin with. For example you have to bury your own; having the dead coming back having conversations and not showing them being buried. They could have done so much more with Hendrix and Timmy's character.

The entire movie seemed rushed and after a while it became cliche. Pet Semetary 2 managed to be better.

True Story
(2021)

Edge if your seat drama.
The acting and story line is excellent. It was edge of your seat drama. The storyline and drama surrounding it continued to build and never fell short. It was nonstop drama and an the feeling of "I have to know what's going going to happen next." It never got boring. Kevin Hart & Wesley Snipes bought their A-Game and the supporting cast did not disappoint. Kevin Hart & Wesley Snipes deserves an award for their performance. The intensity continued to mount with each episode. The ending was shocking and unexpected. Each little thing wasn't little as the drama unfolded. I would highly recommend this movie.

Evil Dead Rise
(2023)

Must see!
The only Evil Dead I ever liked was the first one! This one was surprisingly excellent. The acting was good. The characters were very defined & likable. You get so invested in the main & supporting characters that you don't want them to die. The creatures were scary. They did not disappoint. The movie leaves you wanting more which is rare these days. I feel the movie covered everything very well. I was okay with not having every single detail. The plot was supported nicely. Don't be deterred by bad reviews. I think it's utterly ridiculous that fans are basically wanting a police vehicle arrive. The movie is fiction not a depiction of real life. It is definitely worth watching. I am certainly watching it a few more times.

Trinket Box
(2023)

Watching water boil is more exciting!
The acting is good; the writing wasn't so great. It was so cliche. The plot started off good. The movie is boring. I have had more excitement waiting on water to boil. It was like so many repeated scenes. The lighting wasn't the best. The movie started to unravel and get boring quickly. It was hard to keep up with what was going on. The movie could have been great. It was pushed in some horrible direction. I am mad at myself for not turning it off. I just kept watching the train wreck. As horrible as it is a part two will probably come out based on the ending; why not cause more suffering. As someone else said we don't need 500 characters to say it suck.

(2022)

Terrifically Terrifying!
The acting is terrific; the characters well defined; the creatures are absolutely terrifying; the plot is brilliant. The show is excellent it have you wondering what would you do in those situations. It's a lot of questions and they feed the viewer enough answers to satisfy the curiosity; but at the same time make them want more without giving it all away. Donna & Boyd are by far two of the strongest characters. I am glad they haven't killed either off. One of the best things about the show is the human factor. Watching how people come together and how some fall apart under the weight of it all is simply amazingly human. I am a big horror fan and love how the human factor doesn't get lost in the translation.

Praise This
(2023)

Beautiful movie
The movie is fun to watch. It was energetic & fresh. All of the singing and acting is excellent, Chloe was outstanding. My girls don't like musicals so we almost passed it up but decided to watch. I am glad we did. It was family oriented and fun. Quavo was good in his role. It was something for all of us. We could all relate to the story line. It went from being more than watching a movie but an experience as a family. We are watching it again tomorrow. The groups were so talented. We found ourselves trying to look up the singers so we could purchase their individual music. It is an amazing movie.

The Rig
(2023)

Really good binge.
I found the show by accident. The show is excellent. I couldn't turn it off. I normally don't like Science fiction but this kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait for each episode to start. I binged all six episodes in one night; a Friday night after work so it was good. The acting was good; the characters were likable and well developed. The show plays at a good pace. It's not to fast or slow. The plot is different and keeps you thinking what's going to happen next. I loved that it took place on a Rig. You almost feel like you are on the rig with them. Most shockingly was the end of season 6. It was not expected. It didn't end how most of the shows do. The ending was more realistic as to how a situation like that would pan out. I can't wait to continue watching.

Nope
(2022)

Nope!! Snooze Fest
I played Nope for my Annual Halloween Costume Party. It was a complete and utter snooze fest. Two guests had watched it before one loved it & one hated it. We normally don't use our phones when watching the movie. It took so long getting to the point. Everyone got back on their phones, including me. The movie was so boring. I turned it off and we watched Spell which everyone loved. The next day I went back and watched Nope I fell asleep four times. I started it over & watched it in its entirety. BORING!!! Emerald Keke Palmer who I normally love was over the top, obnoxious, and loud for no good reason. I think it was a feeble attempt to be "country" being from the country it was way off and too much. Her brothers character was controlled, subdued & likable. The movie was a slow burn, it never developed. I don't think Spielberg could have helped this movie. The movie would have been better if it was about Gordy that was the best part of the movie. It was a lot of missing pieces and loose ends that weren't tied up. If you are looking for an excellent movie like Get Out, this isn't it.

Grimcutty
(2022)

Horrible Glob of Mess
The movie that never developed. It could have been great. The characters were okay. The acting was good. The parents were frustrating to watch. The creature was scary enough. The plot started out fairly good. Then the movie turns into a big mess. Nothing makes sense, nothing is plausible, or believable. Even for a horror fiction it becomes over the top. It's an imaginary bad guy that some see and some don't. It makes it appear that you cut yourself, but it's cutting you, but oh wait you are stabbing someone else. I don't like using the word stupid but it got stupid and went down hill really quick. No dots were really connected and I am still left trying to figure out what the heck this was even about. The climax was a new level of suck. Your daughter is telling you the woman held her at gunpoint, she slaps her daughter instead of protecting her because she likes the lady blog and has her detox box. No idea as to how some people were seeing an imaginary creature and others weren't. The plot twist was even stupider. If that's even a word. I was the stupid one for watching it to the end.

Reasonable Doubt
(2022)

Grown folks
The characters are great and well defined. You are going to hate them and love them. The plot is intriguing. It's a crime drama but has more of a personal touch. You get to see the lives of the characters not just them at work which gives you more to invest in. All of the characters are strong in their role. I like the leading actress Jax . Some of her behavior and decision making is questionable which is fine and realistic no one is navigating through life perfectly. Jax is good at her job but not always perfect at life she is human. Her husband Lewis is very likable on the show. His character is strong. He is a loving father & husband. The only thing that I don't like is that for a married woman she is promiscuous; separated or not. But like it or not that is apart of life for some women. I love it and will continue to watch it. I haven't seen anything overly sensitive towards white people so that must be a Karen thing someone is complaining for no reason.

Interview with the Vampire
(2022)

Intriguing
The show is intriguing. It draws you in. The characters are great, some you will love and some you will hate. The acting and storyline is good. It isn't for the faint of heart. If you can't use your imagination and understand a tv show isn't going to be like the book you probably won't like it. If you aren't homophobic or racist you will love the show. If you are you need to go to your safe space and not watch. If blk mermaids or P valley bother you this isn't for you. Everyone else it is good you will be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next episode. It was good enough that I wasn't distracted by my phone it kept my attention.

A Jazzman's Blues
(2022)

Intriguing Story, Superb Acting
The story is very well written, and realistic for the time period. The cast was simply outstanding. The acting was superbly done and well above expectations. They did a good job of making you feel as if you are in that time period experiencing these things right along with them. It reminds me of the old stories my mother use to tell me about that time period. The relationship between Bayou & his brother was sad. The story is intriguing. Sadly the climax was predictable but that wasn't the fault of the writer...Unfortunately it's the true predictable nature of envious people which in itself is scary. The ending was surprising, I didn't see that coming. Overall a much watch. This is some of Tyler's best work.
