Wanna have a shot of Vodka, watch DevD.....
Here's a review on a movie which won't be forgotten by Indian Cinema, for long. It is bound to enter the realms of unforgettable classics, because of the vibrant energy this movie displays in its every single frame, and also because it intoxicates you to the level of sin by making you a part of the journey of an immortal character called DevD.

DevD is not Devdas. AK and AD tried to attempt a new version of Devdas and they bring someone to us, whose thoughts you can relate with and whose failures make you desperate. Kudos to Abhay Deol for bringing out such a fine concept to Indian Cinema.

But this is not the reason what makes this movie a cinematic experience of lifetime, the cinematography and editing simply took my breath away. The nuances of direction were so perfect that you could see a wonderful blend of colors in its every frame and could feel the perfection of every detail in each shot. Be it the scene where DevD meets Chunni with the song 'Pardesi' in the background, or the scene where Paro defies Indian sensitivity by showing the woman who cycles to the farm with a mattress to meet her lover, or the scenes where hell enters DevD every time he takes drugs (though it has been inspired by Danny Boyle). All these scenes prove that Anurag Kashyap is a person who is not letting Indian cinema remain the same anymore. The exquisite boldness with which Kashyap presents the movie without an iota of vulgarity shows that Kashyap is a master craftsman, I have to admit I haven't ever seen even a Hollywood movie with such boldness embedded in the spirit, while not letting it show on face and still hitting you hard.

And as mentioned earlier, this is not for the faint hearted, as it hits you very hard, and takes you to a different world only if you are able to survive the blows. Its not for the "Intelligent", its not for the "Masses", its for every person who knows what intoxication is, because you don't feel good or bad after watching this movie, you simply feel intoxicated.

This review is incomplete without the mention of Amit Trivedi, the creator of the best music Indian Cinema has seen in years. This movie is still not in my top 10 all time favorites but its music certainly is. Pardesi or Nayan tarse are such passionately rendered tracks, that they build on your heart and not on ears every time you hear them.

Thanks once again, Anurag. This was not beer or rum, this was Vodka.... neat..

So fresh despite the cliché
Unconventional looks and style of Genelia, ably supported by Imran, with a fresh approach towards directing a love story repeated and seen many times over, makes this movie different.

I'll have to say I enjoyed watching this movie, and finally I got to watch another typical bollywood romantic comedy movie. I'll put this movie in the league of movies like Socha na Tha- another pure and fresh romantic comedy. The movie had its drawbacks but instead of pointing out the drawbacks, I'll only mention the high points.

High points: Fresh Genelia, beautiful music, unconventional directorial style, cameos by Naseeruddin Shah(he was brilliant), Ratna Pathak Shah and of course by Arbaaz and Sohail.

My mind gives it a 7, but heart gives it a 8....

Live, love and laugh.
After watching this movie for the 14th time, I decided to write a few words in the honor of this unparalleled cinema. This movie teaches you those aspects of life which you are unable to pursue in the fast and competitive world of today. This movie is as meaningful to the current world as it was 35 years ago; because this movie is not about how to survive, its about how to live.

Live, love and laugh is the ultimate aim of human existence. If all of us sincerely agree to this point, life will be different and the world will see a resurgence of exhilaration.

Excellent depiction of laughter which hurts your heart and of sadness which doesn't allow you to grieve is what makes this movie special. Brilliant direction combined with an acting which was almost flawless has made "Babu Mosai" immortal.

Thanks a lot Hrishikesh Mukerjee.

Was it supposed to be funny??
Well I am not sure what the director had in mind while making this, but at least I got crazy after watching this movie, and I needed a sari-don. Though Irrfan and Rajpal are quite good in the movie, the weakest link is the storyline which has nothing to offer. And what a waste of talent of Juhi Chawla and Suresh Menon.

The movie promised to be good initially but it turned out to be pathetic, thanks to poor screenplay, non humorous dialogs and average direction.

The only saving grace in the movie were the few songs it had- especially Sharukh's item no. and Hrithik in the end. Go watch it at your own risk.

I couldn't stop my tears.........
Some movies go beyond the scope of normal cinematic experience. TZP is one such masterpiece which brings tears into your eyes every time you watch it, and these are tears of hope, love, fear etc. You feel the power of hope and belief in you when you watch this movie.

It happens rarely that a mainstream movie gives you a message which has the power to change the way you think. I hope every academician of India watch this movie to understand the flaws in our education system, and every parent watch this movie to understand the flaw in their handling of the competitive world outside the house. "Freedom of thought and expression" is what is one of the fundamental rights of a human. But why is this fundamental right not given to a child who wants to follow his heart? Why a cut throat competition from the age of 3? Why such a sense of insecurity in us? And many such questions this movie poses to the so called "thinking minds and intellectuals" of India.

Brilliant direction, touching music and excellent script make this movie a milestone in Indian cinema.

I hope this movie helps, to some extent, in changing the world around us.

Itzz different
I watched this movie once and couldn't resist myself from watching it again only 10 mins later. A black metaphor of life, which poses some serious questions to the thinking mind. Lust, and how far can you go to pursue your lust? What if some supernatural entity is destined to stop you from committing the lust? And what if the darker side of nature forces you to commit it?

Questions answered and many others unanswered.. this is a movie brilliantly crafted; though at times the pace is slackened. And who says its a copy of the Game? The questions this movie asks and forces us to think is totally different from the game. The treatment of this movie is very different, but i am afraid this difference will become too much for the general audience to grasp or to digest.

Kudos to you Anurag Kashyap, for giving hungry people like me ( those who have hunger for watching movies which are a class apart) a classic movie to feast upon, on the risk of losing most of your other customers.

Extraordinary masterpiece
This is a unique masterpiece and the simple proof is that you can't stop your tears when the movie ends. This movie had such a lasting effect on me that I couldn't sleep for days after watching this movie. An extraordinary portrayal of family relations, human values and all these in the backdrop of the Holocaust....this is enough to move every part of your emotions.

This is one of those rare pieces where you cry on seeing the actors laugh.Every laughter is covered by a mysterious feeling of sadness surrounding it. Every father must watch this movie and learn what love means.
