Heon-teu
(2022)

Could be better, but still pretty damn good
It's a good movie. The action is choreographed well, the way the intensity build up and delivered is pretty amusing. It's pretty satisfying to watch to say the least.

The story aspect is a little bit confusing tho. Not bad, but some aspect just make me frown. It's because, there's some scene that happened just a little bit too fast. I guess it happened because those scene's sandwiched between high intense scenes. And to make it worse, those thing happened when the story start to put "it's puzzle into place". To be more precise, it's when the movie start to show whose the real "bad guy" between the two agent. It just goes back and forth without adding meaningfull story.

To be honest, it doesn't ruin the whole experience tho. Because, the way the mystery unravel one by one is still surprising and satisfying. I guess the good still outweight the bad. Give it a go if you're in the mood for some action mystery stuff.

Blood: The Last Vampire
(2000)

Straight to the action
I've always wondering. How would anime be like if the characters sound like how they're supposed to be. You know, not japanese if they're clearly Caucasian or something. This movie answer that. Sounds stupid i know, because anime clearly marketed mainly towards japanese audience so it make sense and I'm not complaining.

This movie is jam packed with action and animated beautifully. Like I said before, the way American and Japanese mix is one of the thing that also stand out in this movie. Story wise, it's not one of those deep movie tho. But it doesn't have to be. Even the length is quite short, it almost contain no filler dialogue. Almost like the movie know what it want, what it does best and it know how to get it done.

Recommend if you've got an itch for an action packed with a side of gore movie.

After She Died
(2022)

Boring.
At first this movie is quite captivating, specially in it's visual aspect. It's quite vibrant for a horror movie and some shoots look interesting. It still felt low budget tho, but i think the crew behind it manage to make still look aesthetically pleasing.

Too bad the story is horrible. This movie try to slowly build up mysteries on why this and that happening, but somehow some plot point just felt irrelevant at best. It's quite bizarre how the movie keep piling up the reason on why the thing behind the death of the mother character and what else happened at that time. They try to sell it as something devastating but it just doesn't make sense. Meanwhile, they also try to explore the supernatural aspect of it by adding a deity that can do rebirth and they portray it just like some homeless man in the woods lol. The Character that interact with it didn't seems freaked out, disturbed or anything lol. Mix that both together, and you get a story that goes back and forth while also keep adding meaningless part of the story each time the plot point unravel.

I think the best word to describe this movie is "disjointed". Some plot point seems put together just because. Also, when you realize what the story is about, it's just disappointing because the execution done so poorly.

One of Ghibli Film You Don't Want to Miss
I'm very biased to this movie. Somehow this ghibli movie touch my heart better than the rest. Does this movie deserve the 9/10 rating? Maybe not if you don't have the same experience as I did. I would probably gave it a light 8 or a strong 7 if i don't feel too biased on it.

I will try to be unbiased first on my review and to start it off. This one tell the story of a girl that feel in love with boy in her high school. Sounds cliche right? Well yeah, in that aspect it's kinda cliche. But, that's not the only main plot of this movie. In short, the other main plot is that the school is trying to demolish the school building that holds all of the students club room and all of the student that hold dear on that building try to put a protest.

The student that attend club have to work together to save their "home" and since the male lead is in the newspaper club, he become quite a prominent figure in that protest. So the movie balance the plot between the female and male lead around those two main plot and to me, they did a pretty good job on that. So yeah, it's cliche but there's more to it.

The movie goes quite deep on the two main characters, who they are, what's their problem, how they think about each other. Also on how Japan feel at that time. The way they picture how Japan at that time also another good point of this movie. They manage to capture how it feel to live in Japan when they're starting to stand by its own two foot after the war. The scenery, the way people live, the way the people think, the atmosphere. It's soo good and make the movie felt alive.

On the presentation side it's good, I mean come on it's a ghibli movie. You can almost be sure if it's ghibli at least it would look decent. But, truth be told, it's not ghibli best. Definitely not as vibrant as their other movies, it's almost quite dim, too dim even. Probably because they're trying to portray a little realistic side on how Japan look on the 90's tho.

Now on why I'm so biased on this one. When I first watch this movie I'm also in a newspaper club in my college. I spent quite a lot of time there like how people depicted in the movie and also know how it feel if there's a chance you clan lose your club. Since the student representative council will review your club and if they deemed you're not good enough, you're out. Also, since I'm from the newspaper club I'm quite familiar on the student movement. It's all felt too familiar too me. And since I'm in to deep on the students movement plot, I'm also quite moved by the romance plot. Because they go quite hand in hand.

Sorry if I'm rambling, but this movie will always have a special place in my heart. If you're quite familiar with studio ghibli, you don't want to miss this.

Kimi to, nami ni noretara
(2019)

Beautifully Bittersweet
I've been putting this movie on my to watch list ever since I watch the trailer, it seems very well animated and the colour just pop out and looking soo interesting. But, I've been reluctant on watching it since the story seems too lovey dovey and too sweet for my taste. I'm quite familiar with manga that dabble in the same area and I've avoiding those kind.

But oh boy oh boy, this one is good. Sure at first it felt like that, a couple start too fall in love and it's very romanticized. The good thing is the female and male lead sold it off very well and the voice actor really did a good job on building the chemistry between each other. So, instead of feeling cringe, i start to having fun too watching them.

I give it quite a high rating because I didn't expect much from the plot. But, this movie prove me wrong. Sure, the story is still chokefull of cliche. But, the movie make it feel fun and i know i probably not the main audience for this kind of movie, so to me it's all right. Also, like I said the animation is very beautiful. The colour is very vibrant, and the way they use colour to accentuate characters and the scenery is very on point. It's quite an eyegasm.

Recommend if you feel in the mood for some light hearted bittersweet romance.

Ongaku
(2019)

A love letter to music
Have you ever feel that sensation when a music deeply touch you? Well, this movie's a representation of that. A simple yet stylish one at that.

I know some people would be put off by how simple the art is, but don't be fooled. Because they have more trick up it's sleeve that will blow your mind. Especially when the music affect the characters deeply, the style change into and become more vibrant, expressive, almost experimental.

Also, even though the plot throughout the whole movie is not impressive and the dialogue is banal. There is still something about it. Probably that help with how the movie show contrast between living ordinary life and doing something you love, something that you cherish a lot. In this movie's case it's music.

This one's felt very raw but fun. Definitely a nice watch if you're familiar with Japanese movie. It has that slow paced japanese movie feel to it.

Batman Ninja
(2018)

Brain dead fun
Ever since I laid eyes on the trailer, i knew this would be fun and sure enough i was right. The action is animated very well and the concept is fresh. Although it's the plot is laughable, it's not annoying. It's almost like when your friend tell an obviously blatant lies and you can't help grinning because of how funny they sound. But, since the plot only act as way to get to the action. So yeah, don't expect you would get deep story because of course this one doesn't have that on the menu.

I mean come on, a movie where the villain control a castle that can turn into a power ranger-esque robot is not gonna aroused your intelligence lol.

It's definitely a nice watch with a friend that love this kind of stuff. It has that fanfare feeling where you can cheer and laugh on how crazy this movie is.

V/H/S
(2012)

Bite size fun
Probably one of the most famous horror omnibus. And this one's the one that started it all. The concept where a bunch of lunatic found a bunch of horror inducing VHS delivered very well in this movie. It's more of the "fun to watch with your friends" kind of horror rather than "oh god, I'm afraid to pee at night".

All of the director and writer on the short movie successfully make what a short movie supposed to be. Straight to the point but still with decent build up and don't leave too many question unanswered. But of course, one would still feel better than the other. Albeit, all of them is still good at tastefully delivering different taste of horror. The main plot also help stitch together all of the short story and keep it whole.

Overall a nice experience.

Baby Driver
(2017)

Fun from start to finish
Probably one of Edgar Wright best. This movie rely heavily on music and the way the music synchronize with the action is so good. The list of soundtrack also very nice and span from a wide range of genre. Comedic element is fresh, doesn't feel forced. Also, some comedic timing fit with the music.

Story is also simple, but very fitting for this kind of movie. Character is quite exaggerated and the wardrobe is colour coded to each character. So yeah, it's really not a heavy movie. Kind of one those "it's all copacetic" kind of movie.

I'm having a blast from start to finish. Really recommend this one.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers
(2022)

Almost good
Very good movie at the start, love it. The animation is great and the humour doesn't feel forced. Even if i don't have a sense of nostalgia with it, i really like Chip and Dale.

But it all change when the lead human character start to get more screen time. Kiki Layne acting in this felt too stiff for me, almost like she's not a part of this world. I kinda get that she probably supposed to be the straight person in this movie. But, it ruin the flow for me. Probably would've been better if her character's join in more on this world lunacy, like a jim carrey-esque character.

I really want to like this movie but i just can't.

Felt like a flat soda
Personally i think this movie's "horror" element is really unnecessary, the way that this movie trying to scare it's audience doesn't have the pay off and satisfying feeling like when you watch another horror flick. Almost felt like the movie have some kind of identity crisis. Probably would've been better if the movie's contain more element of a thriller rather than adding some borderline unexplained supranatural stuff. To me this is an example of a movie in which the "message is higher than.the art". The only highlight in this movie for me is Regina Hall. I've been watching her in scary movie since i was a kid and i like her acting there, even in here she's kinda blowing my expectation on how good her acting is.

Probably another thing to add and mind you i'm of course biased in this since i'm not from America, so i don't have the first hand experience on what it's like there. The way this movie depiction racism against black people sometimes feel too cartoonish and sometimes feel too serious for it's own good. Almost like scooby doo movie that take itself too highly.

I won't recommend this one since it's just so disappointing.
