Riot
(2015)

Bit of surprise!
First up I am not a Dolph Lindgren fan! I watched this in the middle of the night cos I couldn't sleep.

Oh boy... it has it's flaws! Dolph does well, very well... but he's not the lead actor.

The lead actor (I've never heard of) works his socks off and should be praised for his performance.

The highlight of the film was the women!

I've never heard of any of them either but they all shone. The lead actress was... well... just look at her! Amazing! All the support actresses should be given a nod too.

It does have its flaws, and they could have played on the claustrophobia of prison a bit more, but not a waste of time.

A worthwhile watch.

👍7/10.

Plus 2 for the camera work!
Very little to complain about this little South African adventure. It has It's merits.

The actors are well above the normal rubbish B movie and CGI efforts that plague us. It does contain infrequent translated subtitles but that just adds to the realism rather than detract from it. And I think there seems to be a little CGI but it is barely noticeable compared to the Sharknado debacles! I think most of the special effects are done by people... not computers!

I won't spoil the end but....... you saw it coming!

The film is a 5 (above average for its genre). It gets an extra 2 for the amazing camera work. JM.

Deep Fake Neighbour Wars
(2023)

One trick failure
Whoever came up with this presumably thought they were on to a winner. Wrong. It is terrible. Deep Fake is just unfunny. They seem to have spent their money on creating the Deep Fake and nothing else.

The scripts for the sketches are so ridiculous and inane they don't even raise a giggle.

The 'real' celebrities are made out to be completely uninteresting... although that may have been the point, it still fails.

There's plenty adult animation that puts shame to this. That's why celebrities line up to guest star!

This is neither parody or spoof. Nor comedy.

Deep Fake may probably find it's place in recreating (dead) actors etc, even that I doubt, but using it on the living is shameful and will not work.

Fans of the characters know the real person. Non fans don't care.

I gave it 2/10 because the concept was there. It was just executed terribly.

Rule #1.... make it funny.

Happy Death Day 2 U
(2019)

Very underrated gem(s).
Tiny spoilers.

This is a fantastic little gem. It is not a stand alone film however. You have to watch the first one. I would strongly recommend watching this straight after the first one because it's really one film in two parts.

The cast are well above average, particularly the lead.

The plot is not as complicated as it sounds... bit of Groundhog Day, Butterfly Effect and a Back to the Future joke that doesn't fall flat. Then there's the hilarious repeated suicidal 'Claire from Heroes' snippets.

All the actors are great and I do have praise the lead again. She was explemplary. You will laugh at her face every time she wakes up (with a hangover!).

Minor flaws evade a 10.... but it was close.

Highly recommended if you like your dark humour... and a pretty lead.
