PK
(2014)

Without going for "God help me!", go for "All is well" and give it your best!
'Bhagwaan hai kahaan re tu...' gave me goosebumps all over my body and my eyes were wet! I was literally thrilled. What a masterpiece Raju Hirani has created on celluloid! And hats off to Aamir Khan. It takes a lot of courage to make such a statement in this country as pk does. Challenging the stupid norms and rituals that our society has been teaching us for ages is like catching a star in the night sky and trying to push it towards the moon. You can think like you are actually doing it but it really never happens. So will be the case with pk. All of us will watch pk, realize what foolish activities we keep on doing everyday, laugh at ourselves, and continue doing the same activities. It is not going to affect our lifestyle in any way. But still pk is a very special film due to two primary factors. First, Aamir Khan. What a remarkable performance! It does not get better than this; performance of a lifetime! If you think Hrithik Roshan's portrayal of Rohit in Koii Mil Gaya is the best performance by any actor in a 'special' character, Aamir's pk will surely make you doubt that. The sanity and the dedication with which he has performed every scene in the film is simply mesmerizing. Second, Rajkumar Hirani, of course. His direction is superb. But the screenplay and editing is not perfect. A few scenes are rushed and abrupt. The Sushant-Anushka love plot has been dealt in a great hurry, which looks odd. Sanjay Dutt's lovable act could also have been a bit longer. But pk is very much Hirani's film and he proves once again what a fantastic story-teller he is! All said and done, pk is not a 10/10 film for me. There are a few disappointing reasons why. First, the antagonist, played by Saurabh Shukla, is not strong enough. It seems like an enlarged enactment of the actor's 'Batuk maharaj' from Lagey Raho Munna Bhai. Being the brand ambassador of all-the-stupid-stuff-happening-around, Tapasvi ji should have been a much stronger character. Second, the climax is hurried and not a very convincing conclusion to the issue has been put forward. I don't mean to say that the climax is bad. But it's just about okay. It could have been much better. Bottomline: pk is a film which none would even dare to make! And here they have made it and I don't know how! It is a very difficult film to make and has been made with near perfection. pk in my view is definitely the best entertainer in the last 5 years (post 3 idiots). One of Bollywood's best offerings!

Lootera
(2013)

Must Watch For All Lovers of Bollywood Romances
A highly engaging first half and a somewhat tedious second half with a brilliantly crafted climax..... Lootera is a winner. After Udaan, Vikramaditya Motwane gives us yet another masterpiece painting, which people will remember for a long time! The movie's biggest asset is a bouquet of few of the most romantic scenes ever filmed in bollywood. Lootera doesn't care how other films of the same genre have depicted pure true love on screen; it has its own style..... that's what makes it special. The way the story moves, the film had to have a sad ending. But, a sad ending can also make u leave with a smiling face and with a ray of hope and happiness. This is what Lootera achieves at offering and in winning the hearts of the audience. Lootera has the pure charm of reading a novel. At times it may appear to be a bit too long and repetitive but in the end your heart is full of affection for both the lead characters. One of the finest bollywood romances; loopholes kept aside, Lootera is like a fresh gust of pure wind. If you have ever been in love, you will love the film.

Phas Gaye Re Obama
(2010)

Hindi Movie Of The Year
Bollywood was starving badly for want of a good entertaining movie in 2010 after the impact that was left by 3 IDIOTS last year, but the movies that came all throughout the year were dull and hugely irritating, both in their content as well as their entertainment quotient. Although a few brainless entertainers like DABANGG and HOUSEFULL managed to entertain the masses, but there was hardly a film that could even be put in the 'okay' category by the intellectual audience. Hindi movie lovers were craving for food after a long fast since 3 IDIOTS when PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA happened, giving us ample reason to be as happy at the end of 2010 as we were at the end of 2009. PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA is rich in pure humor, the kind of humor that can make you 'laugh your intestines out'! And not in just one or two scenes, but each and every scene is so perfectly scripted that it is hard to believe that it's been made by a newbie. I can see the flavor of Rajkumar Hirani in Subhash Kapoor's scripting and film-making style. The story is engaging and keeps you wondering what will happen next and shocks you every time. The performances are in superlatives for every actor. But a special credit must be given to Sanjay Sharma(Bhaisaab) and Manu Rishi(Anni) for their extraordinary portrayal of their characters. This movie is by far the best multiplex comedy and can easily pull down the great films like KHOSLA KA GHOSLA or BHEJA FRY. I wish to see more of such films and such awesome performances and I request all that please watch this film and do yourself a favor.

Jackpot
(2009)

Not parallel yet unparalleled
JACKPOT is one of the finest commercial bengali films ever made. It is possibly the one movie the bengali film audience had been waiting for long. Hat's off to Kaushik Ganguly for presenting a very neatly directed complete entertainer. A must watch for all bengali film lovers! Watch it to believe that a bengali movie can be truly entertaining without irritating 'masala' dialogues or stupid action sequences. The comic performances are superb. Koel plays an immensely beautiful part. Probably for the first time she has acted really well. Hiran is smart and Rahul is ecstatic. Sohini looks promising but needs to improve her dialogue delivery. Suman as the anchor looks irritating. He overacts a bit. Biswajit sir is awesome as always. Overall JACKPOT is an outcome of a superb script and fascinating music. Great job by music director Jeet Ganguly and of course by director Kaushik Ganguly!
