Peggy Sue Got Married
(1986)

Change Your Destiny!
Peggy Sue Got Married doesn't belong to classics but still it's decent romantic comedy by Francis Ford Coppola. I don't know why but I love those comedies from eighties thats why I find Peggy Sue more enjoyable than many of todays comedies.

Story is about in midlife woman who is gonna be divorced. She gets small heart attack in school's reunion party. Then she discovers herself back in high school. She knows how her life is going to set so she tries to change her destiny. Quite simple story but it's not played out like typical comedy. It's more like relationship drama.

Kathleen Turner was stunning in her role(I think the Oscar nomination shows that as well). Also I enjoyed Nicolas Cage as officious teenager. I personally think it was one good performance by Cage. You also can see many other todays stars like Joan Allen, Helen Hunt and Jim Carrey.

Good and entertaining flick.

Terminator Salvation
(2009)

The End Begins!
This isn't the future John Connor's mother warned us about. I've hear lot of comments that states that Terminator Salvation might be a big disappointing to a real Terminator fan. Well, I find myself as a real hard Terminator fan and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. Maybe it's because my hopes weren't as high after the third Terminator. To be honest, I was actually pleasantly surprised. And I even didn't let myself worried about this PG13 rating that they are now sticking on to every R-rated action film sequel.

Yes, Salvation stays far behind from the first two films but it is definitely as far ahead from the third one. I liked the story and the apocalyptic atmosphere. Though the CGI might not be as good. The T600 didn't look quite real metal. It didn't feel so threatening anymore.

Now the characters. I was pleasantly surprised by Sam Worthington, almost unknown actor who shadowed Christian Bale in my opinion. When Arnold Wchwarzenegger was a Terminator then Sam Worthington played Terminator. And did it very well. Even the accent didn't annoyed. Although the Christian Bale's John Connor didn't sympathized as much. Sam Worthington stole the whole show from him. To be honest, Terminators shadowed everybody in previous three movies.

Terminator Salvation is totally worth for seeing. Especially for a hardcore Terminator fan.

8/10

Dexter: Dexter
(2006)
Episode 1, Season 1

Takes life! Seriously!
I'm not much television person. I'd rather go to cinema or rent a DVD but I don't watch many television series on TV(there are some exceptions like "Six Feet Under", "Californication" and "X-Files"). I've heard a lot of good about Dexter and how great is Michael C Hall in the role of sociopath serial killer and crime genius. I also enjoyed him in Six Feet Under. It's too bad he has so few roles in movies.

So I finally had chance to see the first episode of Dexter. The first episode was promising. And I have to say that I'm now forced to purchase a Dexter's DVD set.

I started to feel sympathy against Michael C Hall's Dexter Morgan. With television shows it happens rarely with me that I fell into a character.

I hope the next episodes only raise my ardor and I will stay the fan of the series.

Trading Places
(1983)

Extremely funny!?
Trading Places is typical eighties comedy on it's best. Starring with comedic geniuses like Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy for whom it was his second lead in a feature film. Trading Places talks about trading places(It was hot theme in eighties I guess.). A prince and a beggar modernized story only one difference. Prince and a beggar don't now about the game they're part off.

Eddie Murphy is brilliant in his role like always and Dan Aykroyd's panty-waist character was perfect. The two were excellent opposite to each other. Energetic small conman and spoiled Coward businessman against each other.

This John Landis directed flick is good entertainment with good laughs. Enjoy.

The Time Machine
(2002)

The Time Machine
First I have to say that I haven't seen the earlier film from the sixties and also I haven't read the book. Though I believe that this version of The Time Machine was pretty decent. Maybe it stayed bit childish but as much as I have read the Wells's books are bit naive and hard to adapt to on a screen. Story was decent and I liked how it dealt with earth's future.

Cast was strong. Quite good performances by Guy Pearce, Mark Addy, Sienna Guillory and Samntha Mumba from whom it was her big screen debut.

Nice and entertaining fantasy flick.

High School High
(1996)

Underrated High
High School High is a very decent spoof comedy written by comedic geniuses Pat Proft and David Zucker. You recognize all these ordinary high school dramas like Dangerous Minds, The Substitute, High School Confidential and many others. And off-course there's many very absurd scenes that is very common to screenplays by Zucker.

Also you can enjoy performance of Jon Lovitz. His character Richard Clark isn't stupid and clumsy like we know all Leslie Nielsens characters but just naive. At the same time Lovitz doesn't leave a strike that he is taking it all too seriously. Louise Fletcher's and Tia Carrere's performances were in full seriousness at the same time. They both played like in usual roles in usual high school films.

High School High is a bit underrated but might not be as brilliant than the other films by Zucker/Craft but still it has it's moments.

Sügisball
(2007)

Autumn Ball
Autumn Ball (Sügisball) is first feature length film by young and talented film director Veiko Õunpuu. Autumn Ball is very surrealistically real. Pasteltones and sleepiness and soundtrack that created the mood and atmosphere. Autumn Ball is talking about different people who are all lost something and now trying to find it. It's full of complex characters.

Autumn Ball is full of great cast also who make this all possible. Rain Tolk is definitely one of the most talented young male actors in Estonia at the moment.

I can't wait Veiko Õunpuu's next film. He showed his talent in Autumn Ball. Let's hope he'll do it again.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
(1989)

Yule crack up!
Christmas Vacation might be the best sequel in Vacation movies but still it is easily forgettable movie. Maybe it's because I don't understand Americans humor quite well. Though there is many hilarious moments in Christmas Vacation I'd rather call this poor comedy. Character played by Chevy Chase is was more irritating than in first Vacation movie. It doesn't made me laugh at once. More simpatico character was cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) who is stealing the whole show. Comedy writing genius of the 80's John Hughes couldn't deliver this one. Christmas Vacation isn't bad for overall. It just doesn't gives not much laughs.

Frantic
(1988)

Danger. Desire. Desperation.
Every Alfred Hitchcock's admirer should see this film because Roman Polanski is only director who can build such an atmosphere and tension like Hitchcock. Frantic is slow paced thriller, but that doesn't mean that there isn't enough tension. Vice versa. The tension is up right from the beginning and as the story goes on the more details revealing. Like I said Mr. Polanski is only director who can create same atmosphere like Hitchcock.

Harrison Ford makes another good performance. Actually his role is 100 percent Harrison Ford.

Frantic isn't Roman Polanski's best work but still worth watching.

Payback
(1999)

The film that got style!
Payback, has a very simple story - payback. Porter (Mel Gibson) left to die by his wife and crime partner Val Resnick (Gregg Henry) who shot Porter in back and robbed Porter's half from heist money. Porter survived and starting his revenge mission. And mixing it with syndicate that everyone's calling Firm, Yakuza, corrupted cops and old lover, you can get quite a compote. But still it doesn't make the film mess. The story stays simple and this isn't the weakness of this film. Actually it lets you to enjoy the visual style of this film. Greay tones everywhere that makes you feel that the whole city is dump hole filtered with criminals.

Payback is a bit underrated first film from talented director Brian Helgeland. It's real old-school style gangster film with real tough guys.

P.S. You might find the directors cut more enjoyable.

MASH
(1970)

Does your girlfriend look like the chick from MASH?
MASH is a satirical comedy that talks about staff of the Korean War field hospitals life that have been shaken up by to top surgeons. Hawkeye Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and Trapper McIntyre (Elliott Gould) are lousy soldiers but appreciated surgeons. They can do whatever they want. In operating theater and outside of it.

MASH is very critical against war and mocking it 100 percent. It's a true satire from era where Vietnamese War were still very gentle theme. Also you can take MASH as a simple comedy where to pranksters adding some color to field hospitals life by making hell of Maj. Burns's (Robert Duvall) life and turning bitching Maj. Margaret O'Houlihan (Sally Kellerman) to Hot Lips.
