Kuzu
(2014)

Director appreciates his confusion by himself only
This film was my first one during the Berlinale 2014. 30 minutes before the screening I entered Cinemaxx 7. I sat on jury's right. I was annoyed by a few young ladies, row behind me, who could not control their emotions. I focused on the title of the film to distract myself from them. I tried to guess from what angle the movie would meets its title. I could not imagine literally and was thinking of 'being calm' or 'without any counter attack'.

It is easier for me to tell what I disliked more than I liked. Locations were chosen perfectly and shots were aesthetic. Young actress was lovely like her hilarious readings. Narratively the viewers has been tried to confuse but although the idea was great, it did not worked out or maybe worse, it was ineffective. One of the jury members had to show his dissatisfaction by leaning forwardly.

I would describe 'Kuzu' emotionally as 'The Stoning of Soraya' in which the leading actress 'accepts' her faith but now suddenly in the final scene she has an successful escape plan which we as viewers have never been fed about.

For the greater part the focus was on the antagonist while the protagonist was calm and in the end we as viewers put on the wrong track of her counter attack.

The young ladies behind me were disappointed because no one from the production crew were there for the q&a part after the screening.

P.S. If you do not like Tamora in Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus then you will not like this movie.

Real Game
I was surprised when I saw Gulcin Santircioglu in this film. This was the third time. First time was for few moments in 'Yumurta'. It was like you fell in love with someone and want to know more about her. This happened in the second film I saw Iki Cizgi. There she was more a diva, a little bit spoilt. This film, Turev, made my amorousness complete.

Turev is attractive because its comparison with reality shows. It is hard to distinguish whether they act or just being themselves. It is about an idea of a game, playing that game, ending that game, game comes reality ... but in the end they all lose.

The director is unfair in the way how he ends this film. All characters are living by following their minds and because all hearts are broken they give up everything what is important for them at that moment. It is uneasy to do that.

a homework film
To watch this film the viewer needs to be active. You cannot seat passively and enjoy. Acting skills are not helping to enjoy but still you wonder how it will end. The viewer get many clues to guess the end. The clues have been created very creatively but there is one what creates misunderstanding. If the viewer is active, all these efforts will not be rewarded. There is a saying that one picture tells more then 1000 words. Well, this film shows 1000 shots to tell 1 word, which is also an art of course. Finally this film contributes to promotion of Turkey by shots of beautiful places. You start to believe that every place in Turkey is the most beautiful place of the world. This film could be a homework film only.

fit of crying
A movie to whine.

It is strange to see the leading actor in a drama. It is hard to get used to it. One major issue continued all time. No surprises, nothing strange, perfect to follow.

Love in the movie is unacceptable (involving leading actor). This is a subject for a discussion but creating a love couple from different backgrounds so easily and the continuation of this has also nothing to do with this backgrounds.

The music is outstanding. Probably the music is the power of this movie. It supports the dialogues and scenes excellently.

Little actor is a sweetheart.

movie in conformity with standards
How the movie started, you expect a war movie. But it was not more then the reason for the consequences what could occur. Everything what could occur, only just one family suffered very much, at the cost of the trustworthiness. Leaving your homeland concerned all families and all other consequences were forced. Although this is not a political movie stones were thrown to politicians.

The casting was almost the same like in other films where Kurdish people are involved. Sometimes it is boring. In this movie the great actors were under their level. No facial emotions only physical presence. But shouting women were touching.

The name of the movie has been also explained. A minor issue cannot carry the title, it is misleading not because of director's creativity but the story is not set right. Who lives in Turkey knows a lot about this subject. This knowledge will fill in when it is not right. The intention will be understood.

Further, technical things are in conformity with standards.
