Had so much Potential. The plot, cast, and cinematography had significant potential. However, the screenplay and editing were major disappointments. I wish they had refined the characters instead of rendering them into stereotypical caricatures. There was a promising arc for Dhanush, but his character development appeared hurried. Sadly, apart from Miller's role, none of the characters were fully developed, making the story feel simplistic-British bad, local king bad, poor people good. If a sequel was planned, why not invest time in developing the story, akin to 'Vada Chennai' or 'KGF'.
Another issue is with the action scenes, which seemed as though the director, having excess funds, chose to mimic childhood action games. The climax battle, where Miller and his gang confront a 700-strong, trained British battalion, came across as comical. No one takes cover or executes an ordered retreat. Worse yet, there's a fortified temple available that they never utilize. This approach doesn't work today, unlike in the early '80s when audiences were content with seeing burning vehicles and people being thrown 50 feet into the air by grenade explosions.
