Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
(2022)

Great movie...for a 12 year old.
This movie is terrifying. You know those movies that we look back at and say, "that one really messed us up." This is that movie for a new generation of kids. I should of have NEVER off have seen it with my 5 year old. It's 9:30 and he's already gotten up once wanting to get in our bed. It really went out of it's way to be extra creepy. Nothing like Shrek. And it's terrifying the whole way through. It's not just like one scene. Great film, but don't go see it with your kids.

My review needs more characters...So charachters and other characters that have to go to the same places to make the most...great thanks autofill.

Sirens
(2022)

The most metal people on the planet
This film is a beautiful portrait which follows some of the most metal people I've ever seen in the chapter of their origin story. Rita Baghdadi is an documentary cinematographer of the highest quality with the instincts of a D. A. Pennebaker. The editing and original score all hold up to these praises as well.

The women who are the subject of this documentary are utterly fascinating. Fearless for the sake of art and protest to the highest degree. But fearless not in a way that they become or try to be different than who they are to find their voice. Fearless in a way that they handle their personas with natural grace in a climate that would prefer they were different (and by that I mean conform.)

There is criticism that the story doesn't offer more. But that is not real life. This is a character study of real life happening in a country on the brink while a group of young women build a metal band (a very good one.) It's a story of LGBTQ acceptance in the face of discrimination and hate. It's a story of protest in the face of dominant oppression. It's the story of women not doing what their supposed to do. I don't know what's more metal than this.

Thor: Love and Thunder
(2022)

Come back Tom Hiddleston!!
One of the stark differences between this movie and Ragnorak is the absense of Loki. Thor's character seems to need that competitive dynamic. Also the writing for this movie just isn't working. Major moments are simply glazed over in order to quickly get to the next scene. At one point all the heroes do something incredbly cowardly and we aren't supposed to notice. A lot of attempted comic relief is not landing. And the film score is very "blah." The GnR tracks are also not motivated, and pretty obviously an attempt to hit on a trend. While the villian has some backstory, his power has basically none, just another glazed over detail. That being said Christian Bale brought it. He's so good everyone else's performance seems to dwindle. If we're keeping score here the Loki series blows this out of the water.

Loki
(2021)

Noah Hawley
Sorry but this is a desperate attempt to tell you to hire Noah Hawley. You hear that Marvel? He proved his worth to you. Now please bring Noah Hawley to the MCU. Thank you. Loki kicks ass btw this has nothing to do with their filmmakers. It's awesome. Just would love to see Noah Hawley showrun a series. Especially anything with a psychological twist.

The Mandalorian
(2019)

Turned it off 3/4 of the way through
If you haven't tried to get me interested in a single character 30 minutes in then I'm out. Also it's shot and broadcast at a high frame rate making it look like a soap opera. Such an unforgivable mistake made by veteran filmmakers. Don't see a reason to continue with Disney plus subscription as of yet.
