Baby
(2015)

Movie So True to reality
Besides the fact of a movie that is so well made, I must say that the story line, the plot, the theme, the idea is no true, based on real life.

Can't and won't indulge in details and yet I can acknowledge the fact that this movie has, for the first time, brought in light the work of those silent soldiers who defend the biggest, the greatest democracy of this world.

I would have given 10/10 and won't for the fact there were a couple of songs that were made part of it. I do understand that it is Hindi movie and without songs they don't qualify to be 'Hindi/Indian' movie. Then again, this wasn't the movie to qualify as one.

Excellent direction, acting, editing, sound ... the list is long and elaborate.

I suggest this is a must watch Indian thriller, coming of an age.

The Intern
(2015)

Absolutely delightful
For a long time, there hasn't been a movie I would call as 'Gentle' in its presentation and tone.

This movie has all the ingredients in the right proportion sans sex and violence. Not mushy type though.

Great story rendered with great fineness. Admired wonderful acting by Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. JoJo Kushner is simply adorable.

Here is a film, a fiction, that you can believe it to be true.

Amazing to see how flawlessly the story has been woven. Inter action of people of two different generations has been so nicely depicted.

Impressive ways to highlight the good of two different generations. Highlighting the good of each not disrespecting the other.

One more movie to be added in my personal collection for worth keeping it for long time.

Worth watching once.

Poor attempt at repackaging the story theme from "Pay It Forward"
I have seen most people compare this film with one made in South India. I would not comment on the other film. What I do know is that the story theme/essence had featured in a 2000 Hollywood movie named 'Pay It Forward'. Of course there are differences. Hollywood film is about a young school kid, the part substituted in Hindi avataar by a go hit them all macho muscular ex-army Major portrayed by Salmaan. If I hadn't known and see the Hollywood movie, I might have given a star or two more to this film. A very powerful story theme was so grossly wasted when they tried to wrap it up with adding 'masala' Bollywood stuff. I feel the subject of the story did not get enough justice. A lot of unnecessary importance was given to 'glamour' and 'romance'. Of course a few too many songs too have taken away the spotlight from the main storyline. This film could have created a much bigger impact when the subject of story would have had a chance to shine.

The Lunchbox
(2013)

Simply delightful and delicious.
I watched this movie without considering anyone's view. What attracted me was the promotion and the very idea about a story revolving around the famous 'dabbawala' of Mumbai city. However the very pretense of the story is rather hard to believe that dabbawala made a mistake in delivery. Nevertheless, it is a fictional story and hence that is acceptable. What follows is deliciously delightful, heartwarming story. The plot is plausible. The Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui performed absolutely brilliant. One has to be a Mumbaikar to understand the finer aspects of the story. End was indeed unexpected in a very pleasant way. The very fact that each is left to their own interpretation is something amazing. Simple, elegant and above all, capturing that aspect of Mumbai life that goes unspoken. The movie is full of it's own moments. Lighter and not so lighter moments. Fine little things and yet not too artistic for a simple viewer to miss. Seldom I would rate a film 10/10. In my view, this film deserves one.

Watch it once. Not in 3D
Interesting story. Good CG. However, personally I found that a lot more could have been done to make it better. I won't discredit it. A lot of hard work has gone in. One can tell. Personally I feel a lot more could have been done. Definitely worth watching once. Interesting story, idea and delivered pretty neatly.

My biggest dislike, as I have with many Hollywood movies, is that whenever they talk about 'International' endeavor, for some reason, they don't include characters from South Asia, namely India, Pakistan and the rest of the subcontinent. I find it disturbingly biased. Just saying.

Contemporary Story for the right time
Most of the stories, be it the great Hollywood, the bright Bollywood or good old novels, usually start and stay focused on the the issues of how a woman is usually the victim. It is about emotional exploitation or tragedy associated with a woman. How she is tormented and how she suffers and all that. At the most the pendulum swings half way and delivering a happy ending. For the first time, so honestly a story been told of how men too are a total emotional wreck.

Let's face it boys. We are definitely susceptible and there is absolutely no harm in accepting it. I enjoyed the movie for it's so realistic believable story, characters and even the details like the behaviour of each individuals in given situation. Contrary to what the film critics may say, I give this film 9/10. There is no over dose of over acting and false emotions. There is no useless car chase or gun fights or 'action' per say.

My key word for this movie is, 'believable'. The story definitely reflects a lot of the modern day men (or boys). Those who are objecting and finding it offensive and playing the feminist harp hear, please don't waste your time ladies. You have had more then your fair share of the sympathy. Now let the boys tell their side of the story.

Boys, go watch it. Enjoy it and definitely learn from it. I strongly recommend this movie, not with your girl friend, but with other boys. Have fun.
