Selina's Gold
(2022)

A peculiar tale
My initial review didn't get approved for some reason to let's give it another shot. I'll take a more subtle approach this time.

A young woman in a village gets sold to a rich lusty man, who turns her into a sex slave. She soon becomes close to the man & learns where he hides his gold & possessions. She makes a plan to steal the gold & run away with the help of a fellow blind servant.

Please note that the movie is filled with sex scenes & full female nudity.

There's also a plot-twist at the end that will come as a surprise to most & explain some of the prior events.

Overall it's a decent one time watch.

Thirteen Lives
(2022)

One of the best rescue movies I've ever seen. Truly captivating from start to finish.
It's around 2:30 hour long, but there wasn't a moment when I was bored. It kept me intrigued & tense throughout. It's best quality is that it doesn't feel like a movie. It feels real. The whole rescue operation seems real. The movie budget must've been really high because it's not easy to portray a believable disaster/rescue situation. I watched it with my family with people from a wide age group, and they all loved it. This movie deserves far more popularity than what it has gotten. I hope that changes over time. Do watch it with your friends or family!

Purple Hearts
(2022)

Starts pretty poor but gets better after the departure.
It's a simple story. A liberal singer-songwriter girl & a conservative marine guy get temporarily married just to get military benefits, but start developing real feelings when things don't go as they planned.

The good: The phase in which they start having feelings for each other is well-portrayed. The songs are decent, and relate to the story. The conclusion is warm.

The bad: Their arguments are cringey & stereotypical. They don't sound genuine.

Overall, if you decide to watch it, don't give up too early. The initial part of the movie isn't charming. It get's better when they get fake-married. Not the best movie on the subject, but it has it's moments of charm. Worth a watch.

Frozen
(2010)

12 years later, it is still as captivating as it was back when it came out
Just rewatched it after 12 years. I was thrilled throughout, even though i remembered the basic events. Brilliant movie, deserves 7+ on IMDB. This kind of movie won't be as good if made today or in future, due to the heavy use of CGI in current movies. This movie relies on real stuff, which makes it authentic & amazing.

Jurassic World Dominion
(2022)

Over-the-top, but pure entertainment
I don't get the negative reviews. Yes it's a bit too long (it's the finale, so it needs more runtime to conclude the story of all characters). Yes it's over the top, but again, the finale of any multi-part movie series needs a grand finale. There's nothing woke here (that's a big sigh of relief to most of us). The CGI is great. The action/running/driving sequences are great. It has all the important characters in the franchise (that's a proper way to please all the fans). It has a proper ending. I mean honestly it's a pretty decent finale. Don't listen to the haters. They have nothing better to do.

Against the Ice
(2022)

A proper exploration/adventure/survival movie
It's based on a true story & it still managed to keep me interested till the end (usually these type of movies aren't that entertaining). I watched it with my family, and everyone enjoyed it. Definitely recommended!

The Ledge
(2022)

Pretty solid low-budget survival thriller
I don't get the 5/10 overall rating it has. It's definitely better than that. Aside from some pacing issues & bad language, i don't think there's much wrong with this movie. The ending felt rushed though. Definitely very watchable if you like this kind of movie.

Balsinjehan
(2021)

A pretty decent action-oriented bomb thriller.
It's nothing new but the execution is good. It's a bit slow in parts, but overall stays pretty exciting. I loved the scene where the daughter risks her life to protect her father. It was well shot & beautiful to witness. Ending felt a bit flat, but will leave you with a relaxed mind. Watch it with your family or friends, it's good enough.

Ojing-eo geim
(2021)

Some things are overrated, but this isn't one of them.
After having seen it, i must say i wasn't quite expecting it to be like this. I expected something savage & stupid like the Hunger Games movies. But this is much more intelligent, emotional & psychological. What starts off as a competition to survive the games gets emotionally disturbing & traumatizing half-way through. It makes you question morals & the dark side of humanity.

Please don't watch this show if you're already depressed or going through a sad period in your life, as this show might negatively affect your mental health. There is too much sadness & grimness in this show.

If you want to watch something dark, intelligent & original, this is a must watch.

Jai Bhim
(2021)

A realistic investigative courtroom drama about police brutality
I rarely watch Tamil/Telegu movies, but all the positive reviews & high ratings got me curious & i ended up watching it. I must say it's a very well made movie. It reminded me of "Article 15", as they both share certain themes & elements.

It's a bit long, but i never felt bored by it, it kept me interested throughout.

Certainly worth a watch.

Nail Polish
(2021)

As far as Bollywood courtroom dramas go, this is one of the better ones.
It is somewhat similar to "Section 375". Both sides of the argument are presented well. All actors have done an okay job.

It's biggest flaw would be the unnecessary side-story of the judge. It seemed out of place.

Overall a decent movie.

Kairoseu
(2020)

Interesting in first-half, annoying in second-half
Starts on an interesting note, but then halfway through starts getting dislikable. There are some predictable plot-twists throughout. Not much charm to the characters either, unlike some other timeline related dramas I saw recently. Overall it's fine, but not great.

Aelliseu
(2020)

First-half is great, second-half is disappointing.
The first-half & the second-half of this show are so drastically different in presentation & story-telling, that i feel inclined to seperate the review & rating for each part. The first-half is very interesting & has good-character development. I genuinely felt interested in the plot, and the excellent chemistry & unusual attraction between the lead male & female characters. The show keeps a decent pace & spark through this phase & recieves a 9/10 from me.

Now the second half was where everything fall apart. The director was trying to be unpredictable, and ends up ruining his own introduced concepts & relationships. There is an excess of dislikable plot-twists & things just don't seem to go in the right direction anymore. There are also plenty of goofs & obvious plot-holes present. This phase recieves a disappointing 7/10 for me.

Overall, i could even it out at 8/10, but the second-half left a poor after-taste in my mind, and hence, i cannot overlook it. This show had a lot of potential, but the director screwed it up for me. At least the ending isn't too bad, but left me wanting more.

Train
(2020)

If you liked Tunnel (2017), you'll like this one as well.
The base concept is different. In tunnel it's about time travel, while in Train, it's about traveling between alternate realities. Even so, there are numerous similarities, which you'll recognize if you watch both shows.

Overall, it's a mysterious show that stays interesting throughout.

The Call of the Wild
(2020)

Not very good. Dog lovers may watch, but otherwise avoid it.
As someone who loved Togo (2019) & gave it 9/10. I disliked this movie. Unlike Togo which had adorable dogs, a constant charm to it's events & took a somewhat realistic approach to it's narrative & progression. This movie on the other hand is completely unrealistic & cartoonish. It feels like you're watching Lion King or something. In it's entirety, the movie remains comical & childish, with unnaturally implemented villains just for the sake of entertainment value. Very annoying throughout. This movie 5/10 - Togo 9/10. Watch that instead!

Sir
(2018)

A slow-paced realitstic portrayel of attraction & understanding.
The trailer will give you the wrong idea. The movie isn't emotional & intense as it implies. Instead it's a slow-paced drama that shows the slowly developing attraction between a maid & her lord. If you're the impatient type, then the pacing might bore you. The relationship develops very slowly & calmly. It is realistic & heartwarming though. By the end, you'll be satisfied viewing it.

Togo
(2019)

If you love dogs, you'll love this movie. If you don't love dogs, you'll still love this movie.
My only gripe with Disney is that they decided this was not worthy of the big screen. It was the most heartwarming movie of 2019, and i enjoyed watching this more than any movie i watched this year in the cinemas. I really hope Disney would reconsider releasing this in cinemas. It is sweet, emotional & family-friendly. Watch it with your family at home.

The Boat
(2018)

Somewhat interesting, but slow and stupid.
Someone in the reviews below said: "Stupid Man does Stupid things in a Stupid Film", and i kept lauding out loud thinking about this comment while watching this movie. That comment is 100% accurate. The two biggest problems of this movie is 1) It's too slow-paced. Scenes get dragged for too long just to make it a full-length movie. 2) The character continuously does some stupid things that will either annoy you or make your laugh (depending on your sense of humor).

All that said, the movie is still interesting nonetheless, and keeps you wondering what's up till the end. The end itself is not that great, but not bad either. Just don't expect explanations or conclusions.

It's a one time watch, but only if you're up for a slow-paced, surrealistic movie. Otherwise avoid it.

Fractured
(2019)

Starts great, but gets lesser and lesser intriguing as it progresses.
I was able to correctly predict "what happened" right when the accident happens (literally 10 minutes into the movie, so not a spoiler), that means the director wasn't able to surprise me, which is both satisfying and disappointing at the same time.

The actual plot of the movie is simple enough. Nothing exceptional about it.

The performances are decent, but i found inconsistency in the lead actor's acting skills. I think someone like "Jake Gylenhall would've performed this role much better.

The suspense buildup was fine, but the ending itself was underwhelming & predictable (as i stated above).

Overall, if you keep your expectations low, you'll enjoy this. This isn't one of those movies that you must watch though.

7/10 in accurate enough IMO.

Sanju
(2018)

One of the better movies you can watch this year.
Saw it in a 3rd class cinema because tickets were sold out on premium ones. Still the movie was good enough that the surroundings didn't even matter.

The first half is filled with entertainment, while the second half is more serious. Overall there are jokes & comedic scenes throughout the movie which make it highly entertaining. The performances by the whole main cast is admirable. The songs are mediocre IMO, with the exception of "Kar Har Maidaan Fateh" which was brilliant both as a song & as a scene. It was by far the most emotional scene in the movie. I got teary eyed, which i rarely get.

The movie can be easily watched with a normal family, but there are a scene or two which some religious families might find offensive, so depending on your family, you can choose to watch with them or without them.

Overall: 8/10

Rewatch value = 5/10 (The first half can be rewatched many times, but the remaining half might not be so interesting to rewatch).

Pitch Perfect 3
(2017)

Loved Part 1. Liked part 2. Disliked part 3. It's just bad.
I'm extremely disappointed. This is downright pathetic.

First of all, it's unrealistic. The whole "action" sequence at the beginning/end was lame & unnecessary.

The plot was rubbish. The performances were mediocre & not on the level of the previous movies. Even the finale was bland.

Some important male members from the franchise were cut out to make it "feministic".

Overall I'm not gonna recommend this to the fans of the franchise. Just re-watch one of the previous two movies if you have to, your time will be well spent. This third one is trash & only made for making money, it has no soul & substance.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety
(2018)

Best Luv Ranjan Movie to date
I've watched all Luv Ranjan movies. This is by far the best one yet. It's entertaining throughout. Has some good jokes & one-liners. Excellent songs. It's just funny throughout.

I don't usually write reviews, but i really want this movie to be a hit. We need more movies like these.

Go watch it!
