Taking Off
(1971)

Was it ever released on video?
I'd love to see this again, even if just a rented VHS. I see that it's not out on DVD. Was it ever out on tape?

I loved this when I saw it. But it was only the once, and I don't think I even got a chance to finish it. (It was one of very few tapes on an Alaskan fishing vessel, and it wasn't very popular with the rest).

Spoilers follow:

I remember the daughter that they'd thought still run-away discovering her father (Buck Henry) standing nude on the table, singing. And I remember her boyfriend, who'd suprised her father by looking like a broke hippie, but turned out to earn $90k a year. I remember some of the auditions. I remember the lessons given to the parents on how to smoke pot (killer scene!). I remember a lot of mold breaking, but I'm sad that I don't have the opportunity to see this again.

Sweet Sixteen
(2002)

Wow, what a point this film makes! [NOT!]
Okay, so you hate your mom's drug dealing boyfriend for being responsible for sending your mom to prison, so as she nears her release date, you start dealing drugs yourself so you can buy a place for you to live with your mom, which is okay because YOU're clean and don't carry a knife.

Meanwhile, none of your family asks you where your money comes from.

But it turns out that your mom's a c* as well, so you stab her boyfriend and boy, now are you in trouble.

I'm sure I'll figure out what I got from this, someday. I'm also hoping to get a letter from the writer of this screenplay that tidies up a few dozen loose ends that never get resolved.

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
(1988)

One of my favorite films
While I can agree that it's not one of Gilliam's best, I still love it and own it. It seems that this is a love/hate film.

I'm amazed at how many reviewers hated the King of the Moon scene. I thought that the trip to the moon was one of the most important fantasy sequences of the film, and that especially includes heads that detatch! (And when they arrive and the sand ripples start showing up--brilliant!)

I could go on, but it looks like it's mostly been all said. I just wanted to add my vote for weight.

Highlander II: The Quickening
(1991)

Boy, what a stinker
They should have called the third installment "Highlander 2: forget about that last thing, will ya?" You can't just change the premise from the first film of what the immortals are, then bring back one that was dead. But aside from that, the screen play was awful. What? She gets out of the bullet ridden trunk without a scratch? (Bad casting there, by the way.) Ramirez holds up several tons of spinning concrete, then dies again? The bad guy? (Bad casting there, by the way.) Someone told me "save your time, you will regret seeing it". I thought "but I have to, I loved the first one so well". Well, I should have listened.
