Clara's Ghost
(2018)

Weird and funny film
I am so happy this film exists! It is really unique and there were many LOL Chris Elliot physical comedy moments. Some of my favorite and most memorable scenes were when the daughters were talking very candidly and saying things that I myself would never say around my parents. I hope there is a sequel!

Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché
(2018)

Documents this brilliant woman's career, as well as the difficulties overcame in researching her lost work
Just an amazing documentary with hilarious and wonderful surprises all through it. Amazing research and use of archival film. There is one point where they show a walking tour of the film locations in Paris from Alice Guy-Blache's films and superimpose the 100+ year old films over the streets in modern day. Never seen that effect used quite that way. It shows the documentarians share their subject's inventiveness. All the interviews with the film academic community, the film archivist community, as well as working directors and actors really paint a picture of a true pioneer. This woman was there at the very beginning, inventing the art form and the business model. A real history lesson as well, as it takes you through the industry's changes as the world went through two World Wars. You forget that it is Jodie Foster narrating because the subject is so interesting. A real labor of love, I can tell a lot of people gave their time to remembering Alice Guy-Blache.

Monster Party
(2018)

interesting and different
Found myself really getting in to the drama and suspense of this film, and the wonderful performances of all the actors. Horror, but with a story. There was so much going on non-verbally in the way the characters interacted with each other. Really impressive piece of work, I saw it opening weekend and will see it again.

The Long Dumb Road
(2018)

Art school students will especially relate
There are so many funny references about going off to art school in this film, and Nat, who is on his way to Los Angeles, has an amazing misadventure on the road with Richard, who hitches a ride with him. I was reminded of all the eccentric friends I have hung out with who on one hand you despise and on another you desire their company because of who they are and what they can do for you. What a well written and performed piece. Saw it opening weekend in Los Angeles. LOL fun.

Syndicate Smasher
(2017)

A Cultural Experience
You really get to hear some good dialogue in many different languages in this film. I enjoyed the scenes with the Japanese mafia in particular. There is a scene with the character, The Informer, played by Lovie Johnson, that is totally awesome in it's cold, deliberate and practical use of realistic dialogue. It is simple when it needs to be and complicated when the tension demands it. I would recommend this film to people interested in the mafia, people who like video games, and anyone who is looking for a film with a diverse cast. Watch out for the lightning speed of the character Dara, played by Cambodian-American actor David Prak. I wouldn't mess with him.
