Escape Plan
(2013)

Brilliant!
This movie is fun, awesome and very likely one of my favorites in the action genre. The plot is straightforward yet engaging. I actually cringed at the scene when Rottmayer revealed himself and Breslin responded "Didn't see that coming." - like really? Okay, that apart, the rest is really good with excellent cast and bad-ass acting. I love the fact that this movie is packed with high-paced action, smart plans but nothing overboard, an adequate explanation about the protagonist's past, and no romance stuff. Also, gotta love that attitude of Breslin - "There's always plan B." Touché!

My favorite catchphrase in this movie may be the "Have a nice day, asshole!" line. So satisfying! After all, Ray Breslin is a man of his words. The final revenge act should have been more stern, but don't mind me - it's entirely personal preference.

All in all, this is a must-watch for every action fan out there.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones
(2014)

Ugh!
To me, the PA franchise has somehow become a habit when it comes to horror genre. Yet the quality of this series is only getting worse. This movie, in particular, made me feel guilty after sitting through almost 2 hours. The end is ridiculously boring and no better than its predecessors. Oh how fed up I've become with witches and curses and coven - ugh!!!

The plot is so loose that it offers almost no valuable points, let alone any twists. The appearance of Ali seems out of the blue and what she reveals about all the boys being chosen is unbelievably obvious and weak. There is some nudity, which is unnecessary and cheap. On the other hand, the cast was okay, especially the Grandma.

In short, I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Unless you have a lot of time to waste, give it a pass.

13 Sins
(2014)

Good one.
I've always liked psychological thrillers, and though I wasn't particularly blown away, "13 Sins" is a good pick.

The cinematography was rather mediocre and especially monotonous in the beginning, but Mark Webber indeed did a great job - you can see his posture and facial expressions change drastically throughout the movie, which I find pretty haunting. The plot is simple yet intriguing and smart. Somehow, all the twists seem predictable for me, but that doesn't mean they aren't good ones. There is some decent, mild gore along the way as well, as expected from Dimension Films. To be honest, I think it wouldn't hurt to show some more blood; but considering the fact that this is low-budget, it's not that important.

Though I did have fun sitting through 90 minutes of this movie, I wouldn't highly recommend this to everyone. Maybe just some who need a new breeze regarding horror / thriller genre (the exact reason why I watched "13 Sins" in the first place).
