One line, roughly paraphrased, has become part of our family history, passed down the generations:
"Where's the Sun Number One?"
"Well over the yard arm."
Meaning 'Is it time to splice the mainbrace (open the wine/gin/whatever). The yard arm being part of a sailing ship's rigging that the sun would have passed by midday.
It usually is but as mainland Europe is often an hour or two ahead of us, that can be used as the reasoning.
