Redline
(2007)

Why did I get excited about this movie?
When Redline was first announced, I was excited. I thought, Fast and the Furious with Supercars. Right? Wrong wrong WRONG! I didn't go see it in the theater, and now, having seen it on Starz/Encore, I am really glad I didn't waste the money or time.

The acting was horrible (as one review put it, makes FatF look like the Godfather), the direction was mediocre at best, and the casting could have been much better. The only bright spots were Nadia Bjorlin and Eddie Griffin (I love Eddie, and his over-the-top character in this movie was somewhat funny, especially the scene on the racetrack with Nat in the Ford GT). Small thumbs up to the soundtrack as well. It sounded like the soundtrack to any number of Need for Speed games.

The real stars of this film, of course, were the cars. It was a thrill, I'll admit, to see some of my dream cars on film (though I cringed to see them destroy the Carrera GT...such a beautiful car). The race scenes were a little over the top, but I can deal with that. It is, after all, a movie, and I believe it's called suspension of disbelief.

Bottom line, if this film had had the following things: Plot, decent script, better acting, and more of a focus on character development...well, it might have been a 5 or 6 out of 10. As it is, I gave it a 1 because that's as low as it goes, and really, the cars themselves made it a 1.

Only watch this if A)you like horrible movies, or B)you want to see the incredibly awesome and powerful Supercars in this film.

Double Whammy
(2001)

Not a bad movie
I just saw this movie, and I have to say, not bad. Not the best movie I have ever seen, but the performances by Leary and Busecemi were good. I, in particular, liked the work that Faison and the girl who played Maribel turned in.

::Spoilers ahead::

My biggest problem with this movie is this. Maribel pays two thugs to kill Papi. They try, they fail. Does anything ever happen to her? She had a hotshot detective (Chris Noth's character) on her trail. He knew something was up. I think, so did Pluto's partner. For that matter, so did Pluto. I wonder if the NYPD ever followed up on that.

All in all, an enjoyable movie.
