AlienRobotZombieOverlord's rating
Ted Lasso won't stop auto-playing after everything I watch on Apple TV+, so I thought I would finally go ahead an write a review based on the few snippets of it that I have been forced to see. The rating of this show is VERY high, yes. But that is because the people who like this sort of drivel, REALLY REALLY like this crap. It seems like everyone I know likes it. But I don't. I hate everything about it. It is about sports, for one thing. If I wanted to watch sports, I would watch sports. I don't want to watch fake sports where it's all scripted -- I absolutely HATE movies and shows ABOUT sports. For another thing, I really, really hate comedies, especially sappy, feel-good comedies. I am all about thrillers, dramas, and action movies. This show flies against everything I like in my entertainment. It makes me want to scratch my eyes out. I don't know why Apply thinks I would like something like this, because I've never watched anything even REMOTELY like it before. But I guess they just want to push their top show down everyone's throat. Well, I'm here to say: It's NOT for everyone -- and certainly NOT FOR ME.
This series had so much potential -- the premise is wonderful and really hooks you right off the bat. It's very topical as well, so you'd think there'd be a lot of material to work with. But that's where the series actually falls flat. The performances are just fine -- no one's going to win an award here, but DeNiro, Basset, and Plemons are all great actors, and no one turns in a bad performance per se. But the script itself is just woefully poor. At no time does this series really hook you as a thriller, make you feel a connection to this plot or these characters the way it should, or give you any sense of real political stakes. It just falls flat, and in the end feels like wasted potential -- and wasted time.
All I knew about this movie gong in was that it had made a few critics' top-10 lists. I think that's the best way to view it. Apparently, a few people were let down by the marketing, which seemed to pitch it one way, when it turned out to veer a different way. I don't know, I never saw a commercial or trailer for it. Apparently, some people were torn over the performance of one of the leads (the famous one). I don't know, I didn't really think about it until half-way through he film, and by then I had pretty much already just decided to roll with it. Apparently some people didn't think it lived up to the hype of "scariest movie ever." Seriously, what movie ever lives up to that kind of ridiculous hype? Don't think about such things, just watch this with no expectations. If you like thrillers, you will enjoy it.
