Aaja Nachle
(2007)

Madhuri's come back got to be better than this
"Aaja Nachle" is the come back movie of heartthrob of 90s , Madhuri Dixit, the dancing diva the Dhak Dhak queen ..but sadly Aaja Nachle turns out to be a mediocre movie which is definitely below the mark. I am sure Madhuri Dixit deserves better than this.. The movie starts in NY where Dia(Madhuri) a successful aerobic instructor or dance teacher is informed about her dying Guru. She immediately flies to India to meet her teacher, who i mite add is clearly the most irritating character in the movie. On her way she recollects all the memories of her life in India, where she learned how to dance and LIVE. The flashback part is the hardest to bear..Madhuri is clearly not a bubbly teenager anymore..n its a torture to c a 40-something jumping around the city merrily..her Guru addresses her as "Chudail"..n thats wen u realize that not all dialogs in the movie r meaningless.. Coming back to the story, Dia elopes to NY with her Firang boyfriend Steve (how he falls in Love with this old woman is a mystery!!)when her parents forcefully try to marry her to Mohan (Ranvir). She leaves behind a hostile town, few broken hearts and a close friend. Once in NY she realizes that it was a bad decision. Now after all these yrs..She is coming back to Shamli. She reaches India but by the time she is here her Guruji is already dead (thankfully!!) but master ji manages to torture by means of a video he leaves behind where he tells her that Ajanta the theater faces demolition because MP (Akshay Khanna) wants to build a SHAPPIN MAAL there. Dia decides to revive Ajanta by doing a show with the people of Shamli within 2 months and hence save it.

I love underdogs movies, its a genre which forms its foundation on hope, aspirations, motivation and courage. Sadly Aaja Nachle fails to embark these emotions. As told by Guruji " Jo Dil Se Nikalta Hai who Kala (art) Hota Hai Jodil Mein Reh Jata Hai Who Kaala(Black) Hota Hai". Aaja Nachle also fails to inspire, it fails to indulge you into the lives of the characters. The journey for Dia that seems so difficult in the beginning turns out to be a cake walk. She hardly struggles to achieve the success.

" Naach Gana Nahin Nritya Sangeet Choudhari Sahib" is enough to convince the rowdy politician Choudhary Sahab(Akhilender Mishra). "Aapke Jaise modern Jamaane Ke foreign educated MP Se" convinces Akshay Khanna. The whole town which hates Dia is pouring in for auditions. Madhuri Dixit gets tons of extras, huge sets, costumes Funds to do all that and there is not even one single scene which shows her intense struggle or tries to explain how. Definitely these things can be left as cinematic liberty but a few explanations would have made the story more believable.

One thing which will impress anybody is the star cast of the movie. Ranvir Shourie as the tea stall owner Mohan who is madly in love with dia clearly stands out in terms of performance. This guy speaks from his eyes and when he says "Chai bhi aapki main bhi aapka he moves the screen; Vinay pathak looks cute and definitely acts well. Kunal Kapur, Irfan khan divya dutta Konkana Sen, : looks like the Director spent all his time on casting.. But the problem lies with the script which hardly leaves any scope for brilliance by any of these actors. Irfan Khan is wasted, Divya dutta has just one good scene and she does a great job. Dia tries to convince Shamli's junta to support her in her struggle to save ajanta by saying "Jab Tak Suraj Chaand Rahega Shamli Mein Ajanta Ka Naam rahega". Clearly Shamli is not convinced and definitely not you...After the dialogs i have quoted so far it wouldn't require lot of brains to gauge another sad fact..the dialogs of the movie are uninspiring to say the least.. Another shortcoming is the music, you expect mind blowing music the kind of music which will make you jump off your seat and shake a bit. But Aaja Nachle's music is anything but great. It's an average soundtrack with few moments of thrust. Another shortcoming is Vaibhavi merchant. This movie was offered on a platter to her..she couldn't have asked for more than Madhuri.. I was wondering if this was the same woman who gave us Kajra re. After a horrible performance in Saawariya Miss Merchant again fails to impress. I know its not that bad a job but for a movie like this you expect choreography which is out of this world. The last 20 minutes of the movie in which the play is shown, clearly stand out but with stupid moments like "Na Maaro Chot Lagti Hai Na Maaro, Chunmun Si Hatheliyan Hai POOCHKAARO" It leaves you with mixed emotions.

Anil Mehta never tries to go into details. He didn't explore any single character he fails to put forward the emotions of any character and how the transformation is taking place. IF only he would have tried to put the characters of lives on the celluloid the end result would have been different. Yash raj has given us great movies but something is missing now. Chak DE is the only movie coming out of this production house which comes out as a winner. "Tara Ra Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar, Laga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle also fails to live up to the expectation.

Taare Zameen Par
(2007)

Amir Khan is a Genius
Taare Zameen par is the directorial debut of Amir Khan and he surely impresses.Amir Khan who is indisputably among the finest actors comes across as a magnificent story teller.

The story is of an eight year old boy Ishaan Awasthi. Ishaan has some snag with studies. He lags behind in class and most of the time he is standing outside after being punished. Ishaan loves to paints he lives in his own small world where fishes can talk, trains can fly and yeah he brings everything to life with the help of his paint brush. Lost in his own world Ishaan merrily play with fishes, street dogs and fantasize about fictitious characters. Ishaan's elder brother is the class topper and a tennis champ and hence it invites comparison. Driven by strong service class mentality Ishaan's parents want their kid to excel in studies and concentrate more on academics. Ishaan fails in class 3 and faces rustication from school because of chances of getting failed two times in a row.Desperate time calls for desperate measure and Ishaan's father enrolls him in a boarding school against his will and his mother's. Ishaan feels betrayed, he is hurt he goes into this shock stage where he hardly talks to anybody and more importantly he stops painting. Here also he lags behind in studies but more importantly he loses the will to be happy. Then comes a temporary art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh( Amir Khan), he tries to figure out the reason of Ishaan's silence and disinterest. He finds few symptoms of dyslexia in Ishaan, and then decides to help him out. He educates his parents about dyslexia, convinces the principal to be liberal with his marks. Being a dyslexic himself, Ram Shankar relates with Ishaan's problem. He not only helps Ishaan's to deal with dyslexic but also builds up Ishaan's lost self confidence.

Taare Zaameen Par strikes right chords because of an amazing script, meticulous direction, magnificent performances and Simplicity. Everybody would be able to relate with Ishaan. Ishaan's problems his life at some moment will definitely become yours. Every character is beautifully written and Amir Khan makes sure you are acquainted with all of them. This is the beauty of TZP because everything is so believable and realistic that after some time you become a part of it.

TZP triumphs because of its simplicity. The characters are so believable that they feel like people living next door. Darsheel Safary is brilliant. Amir intelligently handled his screen time and he never overshadows the script or any other character. It's the master story teller Amir Khan's sheer brilliance that he is being able to bring to life some of the most touching and heart warming scenes on celluloid. Amol Gupte's sensitively written script indulges you into each and every emotion. SEL gives a melodious heart warming music which not only adds to the narrative of the story but also embarks many unsaid emotions. "Ma" is unarguably among the best shot song of recent times. Hand held camera and sharp editing is vividly used in "Bheja Kum", Date raho introduces all the characters colorfully and off course the title track is sheer melody.

TZP never tries to preach anything it's not a movie about dyslexia. But it has a noble feel and an intrinsic kindness. This movie talks to all parents and forces them to introspect. TZP works because it is so relatable we all can see ourselves on screen at some point or another. The only minute shortcoming of TZP is its pace. First half can be cut short by 15 minutes but I will say it doesn't matter because the movie is slow for sure but you enjoy every moment of it.

TZP will make you laugh make you look deep into your soul will make you relive few childhood fantasies and it will make you cry. But its not a sad story it's a over whelming experience and when in the final scene Ishaan run towards Ram Shankar you really feel world is a better place.

Sunday
(2008)

Watch Sunday only if you have nothing else to do on Sunday
After a successful "Golmaal" Rohit Shetty's latest venture is Sunday. With an impressive star cast of Ajay Devgan,Arshad Warsi, Irfan Khan and Ayesha Takia, Sunday looked pretty strong in its promos. I was quite excited about the movie after watching the promos, my only fear was Tushar Kapur, but I thanked god when his name appeared as Special thanks. Well it's difficult to give a black and white review of Sunday. You can't call it an outright winner and not a complete waste of time either. It will definitely fall among the better category of humor of recent times. But still you will have some disappointments. Sunday is a comedy-thriller where the thrill part is a major let down. Sehar (Ayesha Takia) is a dubbing artist (thank god not an Advertising professional or journalist an innovative profession for sure) living in Delhi who is unable to recall the accounts of one Sunday. She remembers going to a night club on Saturday and going for a movie on Monday but one Sunday is missing. Ayesha Takia desperately wants to find out what happened on that day, well if one is chased by reckless goons who wouldn't. Strange people acts weirdly around her after that one missing Sunday. Ajay Devgan is a Cop and prospective fiancée of Sehar. A Taxi driver (Arshad Warsi) and a struggling actor ( Irfan Khan) are looking for Sehar and asking for 420 rupaye. Ajay Devgan tries to solve this mystery one missing Sunday. The real hero of Sunday are Arshad Warsi and Irfan Khan, the timing is impeccable, the chemistry is outstanding and when they both are together on screen they give you moments which will make you laugh out loud. The jokes are very situational and it's the sheer brilliance of Arshad and Irfan who instigate a touch of excellence. The first genuine hilarious scene comes in with the entry of Irfan khan and after that both of them never go down. One scene when Irfan Khan is dressed up as Ravana and the scene where Sehar scares the hell out of both of them are moments of great fun or the HR parody. Most of the other actors look desperate to make you laugh. Ajay Devgan's new found love for flaunting his cleavage is beyond my understanding and somehow he was not at all fit for the role. All the time it looks like he is fighting hard to be funny but not quite there. Ayesha Takia was not given the responsibility to make you laugh. Her job was to look pretty all the time and scared sometimes. It was nice to see that she lost some weight after her Miss Thunder Thighs and Hooters appearance in No Smoking, still there is a long way to go. Vrijesh Hirjee's accent might make you smile for the first time after that he just drags. Many side characters are put in for no good reason. Sunday is confused, there are few scenes which just appear out of no where and they don't make any sense. Arshad Warsi's emotional revelation of his kidney problem is one of the most stupid thing Rohit Shetty could have done. But good thing is every time after all the mayhem and stupidity Arshad and Irfan come on screen to clean up the mess. In the second half Sunday changes tracks to be a thriller still there are good doses of laughs. But the thriller part is the most ridiculous suspense you could have ever imagined. When the whole mystery breaks you feel like why it all started in the firs place. Casting that cute little bump as the villain clearly shows budget constraints or may be Rohit Shetty was smoking "Classic Milds". A major let down on the movie is its screenplay. Sunday is full of worthless song placed in the worst possible situations. To add to the agony the music is nothing but great. Rohit Shetty fumbles in all the romanticize sequences and the chemistry between the lead stars never builds up. In the end I will say if you have some extra cash and some extra cash give Sunday a try for the sake of Irfan Khan and Arshad Warsi's outstanding performances. Otherwise even if you miss this unlike Sehar you are not missing anything.

I am gonna give Sunday 2.5/5

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal
(2007)

Goal fails to inspire ...
The most awaited sports action drama of the year… Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal starring John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani and Naveen Andrews. Well the only thing audience waits for after getting inside the theater is "When this crap is gonna end?"

Its a trend these days to make sports based movies. But the only thing related to sports in DDDG is the title and one or two goal scoring shots. Following the league of chak De India goal takes everything what chak De stood for and beats it to death. In fact goal defies all the basic norms of a sports flick. There are no nail biting finishes, no sight of inspiring football and yeah no motivational speeches. Director Vivek Agnihotri made an average debut with "chocolate", a bad but stylish adaptation of Usual Suspects. But in Dhan Dhana Dhan goal its tough to find one good scene in this whole movie.

The situations are bizarre , the characters are shallow, the soundtrack is awful, the sports action is no where to be seen and the Script is a disaster. Goal is about the south hall football club which is in deep trouble. They haven't won a single match in the last 20 years they don't have any sponsors and now the club faces the fear of being thrown out and hence destroyed forever. The team captain Arshad Warsi owns a kebab corner" GLassy Junction", the team consists of few beer gulping pot bellied laggards who are more interested in blaming each other for their losses then to concentrate on the game. But for a team you need a coach." BAM comes Boman Irani" a great footballer of his time who is now a pathetic loser drinking his life to death. Sounds familiar... wait for it there is more to come. Now a team also needs a striker who by the way happens to be the dimpled cheeks John Abrahim. But Arsad Warsi and John despise each other. So the racism hits John and he is out of his Firang club and joins south hall. But a team also needs a physician... Kaboom here comes Bipasha Basu the sexy sister of our captain who by the ways is waiting for any opportunity to throw herself on our striker John.

After collecting the team Vivek Agnihotri focuses on so many sub- plots of racism, patriotism, father son relationship and in the end he delivers a product which only taran adarsh can watch and appreciate "read it here". But he sets one thing right and that is right from the beginning of the movie he clearly communicates to the audience what to expect in the coming 2 hours. The opening 10 mins of the movie sets the bar so low and when the south hall club owners dies with a ridiculous heart attack( I m assuming it was that only) you cant do anything but laugh and hence when the Item Number pops up in the streets of London ... nobody is amazed. The stupid football players who flaunt their torso after hitting the goal and you wish they should never score again.

A football team consists of 11 players where every individual plays a crucial role but DDDG consists of 4 players with one or two cameos from the remaining cast. To be honest till the end of the movie i was not able to count 16 players who form the team. I guess Boman Irani doesn't believe in substitute. Nobody except John looks like a player.

Director knew from the beginning that this epitome of stupidity wont fetch him money on the box office that is why he tried to rake in some moolah by idiotic product placement. There are so many things which are wrong about DDDG but the major blame is on the script. The movie fails to connect with the audience on any level and that is because Vivek agnihotri never tries to do that. By the time the movie reaches the climax and start singing their anthem( which by the way made no sense coz it was not used properly) you just stop caring who wins or who loses because you will be looking for the exit doors to open.

Ta Ra Rum Pum
(2007)

Avoid this one!!
Flashy cars, exotic locations, groovy music, designer clothing drama good star-cast, still this Yash raj films flick fails to impress. Sid Anand is one of those directors who are confused with there film making. Its a desperate attempt to globalise Indian cinema but they fail terribly at that. KHNH did that successfully but Sid Anand failed both the time Salaam Namaste was a disaster and this one tops that. THe basic idea was good to get in NASCAR racing but are we fool or what? Every time SAIF OVER TAKES somebody he changes a gear in one race he does that for Arne 15 times i mean if u are finishing the race and u are on a straight track how the hell you are already not on your top gear?? The love story is is developed and hardly touches you. The story is full of stereotypes where we have a big shot cold hearted father and a big shot girl who falls in love with a happy go lucky guy and the life is sweeter than ever. There comes in a disaster when our happy NRI family is in deep trouble . Its a desperate attempt to mock Cindrella man but Saif is no Russel Crowe . Rani Mukherjee looks pretty only in the second half in the first half her get up is pathetic. Even though the family is poor and are in dearth of money. They get enough time and money to paint their house in Technicolor. Saif never realizes how bad the situation is and their fight for survival is hilarious. Children's behavior is something majority of Indian kids won't relate to. No doubt the film has got some good moments but every time it leaves you with craving for more. The scene where Saif approaches the racing team manager is good but it could have been great. There are so many things about this movie which will make you laugh out loudly rolling on the ground. for example in the last scene the whole hospital is watching the race and cheering. I mean common in which hostel you are allowed??

In the end TRRP satisfies you a bit and leaves you in between craving for more .

Salaam-E-Ishq
(2007)

"Nikhil Advani" lost it somehow
A promising star cast, a star studded cast great music Salaam e ishq looked like a perfect recipe of a mega hit. But then when after 3 hours when u walk out of the hall you feel like something was missing. Nikhil advani took a difficult task of telling 6 love stories in one go. Love actually was amazing coz of excellent screenplay where the transition from one story to another was smooth and lovely.

S-E-I lost it on this ground many times ... at times the transition is amazing but sometimes you just feel like the story is left in between. "Nikhil" tried to connect all the couples towards the end which was a nice idea but poorly executed. Everybody just ends up there somehow which is so mechanical. Some love stories lack the depth of love and the passion. "Anil kapoor's n juhi chawla's" relation is so superficial. A guy walking out of a marriage and then coming back to his wife that calls for a deep enthralling love. The show stopper is definitely "john abrahim" and "vidya balan".The chemistry is natural and the emotional bondage is most deeply rooted in that story.

Worst performance is by yes you guessed it rite " Salman Khan". He pronounced "Rahul" as "RAUL" and sometimes you just feel like he is talking about "Spain's" striker. "Govinda" was too loud in the movie but still their love story is both cute and loving and it brings a smile on your face. "Suhail khan" and "isha kopikkar" had little scope but gave few moments of joy.

Music is superb and the choreography is even better. The title track stands out . "Kailash kher's" voice is moving and touching. Except the useless remix "babuji" every song is justified .

Overall watch the movie Worth very little expectations and u can avoid it too

Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya
(2005)

David Dhawan is back
I am not a fan of Salman Khan in fact i hate him plus Suhail Khan is also there so here it is "Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya " a movie from which i had no expectations and knew right from the beginning it is going to be a Masala entertaining flick with absolutely no space for rational. It turned out to be exactly the same.

THe plot like any other DD's movie is well set for lots of scope of comic errors confusions and stark dialogs. Salman Khan plays a Casanova doctor who to avoid the risk of commitment keeps telling his girlfriends that he is married. The problem starts when he falls in love with a model (Katrina Kaif). Everything goes fine but then Kat asks Salman that she wants to meet his wife so Salman somehow convince His secretary (Sush) to play the part of his wife. To add more troubles in the life of Salman Pyaremohan walks in as a friendly neighbor of Kat. The film reminds of golden days of DD's film making when he gave hits like the No.1 series , Aankhein and all. He lost his touch in between by making movies like Ek Aur Ek Gyarah , Yeh Hai Jalwa and few more but the last movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and MPKK shows the real potential of this entertaining director. Performance wise Sush is absolutely amazing she delivers the role point perfect her smile kills you and her Nakhras are awesome. Kat had a role of a model romantic lover and we all know she could do that pretty easily. Amazingly Salman Khan gave a solid comic performance no more irritating laughs and those stupid giggles of Hello Brother. Arshad Warsi is getting better and better in playing the Hero's friend's character. SUHAIL KHAN is a HUGE set back for the movie but David Dhawan had enough brains to keep his role very short and concise but still he damages the movie to some extent.

MPKK is good because of extremely good dialogs and yes they are by JAffery and Sanjay CHel . My personal favorite is the spoof of old mother and how Sush tries to irritate her by the common methods of age old Indian movie. Music is catchy and hip hop so it goes with the taste of the movie IN the end sit back give your Grey cells a break and enjoy the movie as it comes I am sure when you will be driving back home you won't regret for your time and money on this movie 6/10

The Life of David Gale
(2003)

Watch this one keeping in mind this is just a movie.
"The Life of David Gale" is a story of philosophy professor David Gale, an advocate for the abolishment of capital punishment, who is accused of rape and murder of one of her fellow colleague. He is sentenced to a death penalty. Few days before his execution a female reporter Kate Winslet is sent to do his final interview. The story unfolds in flashbacks and reveals the truth behind Gaile's convictions.

The plot is superbly built and the story moves down pretty fast.Kevin Spacey does it again after Seven and Usual Suoect this is his third movie in which there is a major plot twist in the end. He is able to convince the audience with his hard hitting performance.

The movie has few loop holes and the way the murder is explained hardly makes a point.Getting convicted for a framed murder and an innocent person getting a death sentence are two different things. But in the end it is just a movie and yes it is very entertaining and interesting.

Parker was able to build up the mystery and interest in the whole movie . Kate winslet did a decent job though she had little to do when Spacey was on screen who else can get a chance anyway .

I saw the movie and liked it very much so decided to read about it on the forum surprisingly people are condemning for having few loop holes and judging the movie on its ethical values but the point is it was not a social message or something it was just a movie and when you watching this flick please keep this thing in mind that it is just a movie.

8/10

Nazar
(2005)

Another sluggish movie from the Bhatt Camp
Nazar is a story of a young and talented pop star Divya ( Meera) who once driving back to home discovers a dead body.Divya goes to check on her and from then on, her life takes a complete turnaround as she starts getting premonitions about impending murders. A serial killer is on the loose who targets mumbai bar girls, Special Investigating Officer Rohan Sethi (Ashmit Patel) is investigating this case.Sethi employs Divya's constant visions and flashbacks to solve his case .

The biggest flaw of nazar, beside the much hyped Pakistani heroine Meera is that it is very predictable. There are many situations in the movie where the audience knows whats gonna happen next. For a movie which counts on its suspense can;t be that predictable right from the start you get a feel of who is gonna be the killer.

Soni Razdan did a decent job in few scenes but they are countable ....a small appearance by Sarita Joshi as a prostitute was brilliant. Same way Neena Gupta did a good enough job.

Soni Razdan failed miserably in terms of script the story line was good enough and had huge scope of making a good thriller like 100 Days but the sloppy direction and some of the worst performances Nazar finds itself hard to survive.

The acting arena was full of useless wrestlers who seemed to gave up right from the first shot. I bet you won't be able to stop laughing if you will see Koel Purie in the climax and the way in which the motive for the killings was explained was hilarious. Meera was a big big disappointment she neither looked god and acting Oh My god she looked very confused in front of the camera. Ashmit Patel was again a set back he did an awful job ,I m not sure of his career in the film industry if he will continue to give performances like these in the future.Aly Khan the doctor was another person whose expressions and dialog delivery style never changed through out the movie he was point black although he is a good actor but i guess Soni Razdan was not able to extract the best out of him.

Overall Nazar goes down as another flops of the Indian film industry and with all the controversy it created before its release this movie is sure a no go. 2/10

Bunty Aur Babli
(2005)

A joy ride.
Leave your rational back at home and when you come out of the theater you leave the place smiling. Shaad Ali did a marvelous job of capturing the beauty and essence of North India. The story is not a ground breaking one and have been used before but it is the treatment and screenplay which makes it so enjoyable. The movie has got it all groovy North Indian dance steps, dancing on the train selling of Taj Mahal.

BAB is about two dreamers from small towns of UP Rakesh ( Abhishek Bachchan ) and Vimmi (Rani) who in the quest to fulfill their dreams elope from house and bump into each other. They both faces failure at the first stage so they both decide to twist things around and get into conning. To con they develop an alter -ego Bunty and Babli. from then they never face failure and their scams become a headache for the system.DCP Dashrath Singh Amitabh Bachchan takes the charge of catching B n B.

SHaad ALi poured a lot of hard work to make BAB a treat to watch . His home work is obvious from many small points in the movie. THe opening scene of a Kite stuck in a TV antenna , the songs which are played in the background were just sheer right on the target. Songs like " CHalat Musafir " really captured the feel of North India. Using Taj Mahal as a backdrop for the marriage and their unconventional Vows were all brilliant.

Performance wise Rani Mukherjee is absolutely awesome. The way she captured the emotions her get up and talking style of a young Punjabi girl was point perfect.Amitabh Bachchan's comedy is still the best my god what timing. Abhishek Bachchan has seriously grown up as an actor and he proves his point in BnB .

Abhishek and Rani are a treat to watch and they were so lively on the screen it gets you into the moment. The bus scenes where Rakesh tells Vimmi about BNB is amazing then the scene on Mumabi CST station where they confess their love shows their on screen chemistry.

SEL gives a good enough soundtrack with songs like "Dhadhak Dhadhak" and Chup Chup Ke the soundtrack of the movie is really worth listening. Aishwarya Rai looks amazing on screen and Amitabh and Abhishek were marvelous together. The Bar scene between Abhishek and Amitabh is all about brilliant timing of comedy. I loved the groovy dance steps of Kajrare.

In times when movies like Kya Kool Hain Hum is making money BnB comes as a refreshing good taste comedy . 8/10

Zakhm
(1998)

A movie emotionally so strong it is sure gonna touch your heart in many ways.
Zakhm is definitely the best creation by Mahesh Bhatt. The plot involves the communal tension of Mumbai during the riots.Pooja Bhatt, mother of Ajay Devgan is burnt alive by a Muslim mob and then we are taken into the flashback which reveals the dark side of Pooja Bhatt's and Ajay Devgan's past. The strength of Zakhm is its depiction of human sentiments and emotions which are portrayed so beautifully that it really hits you hard.

Performance wise the movie is amazing Ajay Devgan winning the prestigious National Award.Pooja Bhatt making a stunning come back Nagarjuna , Ashutosh Rana,Akshay Anand all delivers a strong performance.Master Kunal is the show stunner it is amazing to see such a strong performance by a child artist.

Music wise Zakhm is again a masterpiece the songs really adds more to the emotion and is very touching.

Overall Mahesh Bhatt gives his life's best and a movie which was surely among the best of 98

'D'
(2005)

Another hard hitting movie about the Mumbai Underworld.
Ram Gopal Varma does it again yet another movie which draws you into the reality of Underworld and introduces you to the machinery of Mumbai underworld.

D is a story of a young aggressive man Deshu who gets into the Underworld and changes the orthodox ways of its operation. He defies the ongoing practices and with his courage he is in the driving seat just after some time he joins the gang.

"Randeep Hooda" comes as a surprise this young chap from Haryana delivers a performance which is really amazing. Last time when we saw Randeep Hooda he was in a small appearance in Monsoon Wedding. But this movie shows his potential. He resembles to Chandu of Company but definitely does it better than Vivek Oberoi.

Satya and Company were on the same lines of D but definitely SAtya is the best among the three.D-company music wise is not up to the mark but songs are hardly part of the story.

performance wise the movie is a full of good performances CHunky Pandey gives a great performance and fits to the role. Then there are artists like Goga Kapoor Sushant Singh who can never go wrong.Isha Kopikar had very little scope but her costumes and body language was perfect for the small time when she was on screen.

If you enjoyed Satya and company this movie is a sure go for you.Don't expect any mercy from Varma productions because there is ample of on screen violence and tension like the previous two flicks.

8/10

Kyaa Kool Hai Hum
(2005)

One of the most awful movie of 2005
KKHH is a story about two useless losers in life Karan (Ritesh) and Rahul(Tusshar Kapoor) who are worst at what they do best. There is a serial killer on the loose in the streets of Bombay who rapes his victims and then kills them.THe Police starts believing that Rahul is the wicked murderer in the mean time in his quest to marry a rich and beautiful girl Karan gets stuck in a different confusion.

The plot seems fine and there is enough of confusion and situations to make audience roll on the floor. But this is where the "Genious" Ekta Kapoor and Sangeeth Sivan jumps in and creates a trash which can only be watched by people who don't know what good comedy really.

THe film is full of cheap double meaning jokes which are so awful even college guys can't withstand them. The scenes involving Ritesh and the cats and the one with the dummies are some of the worst moments on Indian silver screen.

Performance wise the movie is horrible. Each and every actor(except Isha Kopikar) adds more junk to this crap.

The director was trying to show Ritesh as the "Cool Dude" but by wearing good outfits of UMM no one can become cool dialogs delivery of Ritesh is so plain and feeling less it makes you wonder how this guy is in the film industry.Tusshar Kapoor is as bad as ever after Gayab this is yet another performance which leave his future only in his sister's movies because i have serious doubts about him casted by any other director.

Isha Kopikar's role and performance is like the only exceptions her dialogs delivery is inch perfect. Her getup , walking style and everything is perfectly executed by her and clearly shows the home work and hard work what she did for this role.Neha Dhupia had no (absolutely nothing) in the movie.

The music is good I m sure many tea stalls in UP and Bihar would be playing CHaska round the clock . The tittle track can be a hit in college students.

OVERALL a complete idiotic and pathetic movie. 1/10

1942: A Love Story
(1994)

An absolute masterpiece
"1942 A Love story" is a portray of a beautiful love story with the backdrop of the Indian struggle for freedom. The plot is still the same of a love story but unlike other Bollywood movies the villains are not the parents but the political turmoil of 1942.

Vidhu Vinod who was just three movie old when he made this movie teams up with the genius Sanjay Leela Bhansali ( screenplay) to deliver a movie which is definitely the best of 93.With an impressive star cast of Anil Kapoor, Prem , Jackie Shroff,Danny, Ashish Vidyarthi and Anupam Kher this one could have never gone wrong.

The story runs on two parallel lines one is the love story between Rajjo(Manisha Koirala) and Narender(Anil Kapoor). The other story is about the assassination of general Douglas.

THe music of the movie is absolutely amazing R.D.Burman delivers yet another masterpiece which was unfortunately his last. Manisha Koirala fits so well in the role of an innocent and beautiful young girl.THe introductory scene of Manisha Koirala is absolutely amazing."Ek Ladki KO " and Kuch Na Kaho are one of the best pasteurized songs. Kuch Na Kaho gets you into the moment so well.THe on screen kiss if definitely one of the best on the Indian screen.

Javed Akhtar wrote the songs that are just a brilliant example of superb poetry.THe songs are a part of the story and since they are so good you don't get irritated when they pop up unlike other Hindi movies.

The story takes a sharp turn just before the interval after the death of Anupam Kher when Manisha Koirala is rescued by Jackie Shroff and the conditions forces Anil Kapoor to jump into the struggle of Indian independence.

performance wise Jackie steals the show delivering the role of a young and self driven freedom fighter he is able to portray the emotions and feelings to picture perfect.BUt that does not undermines the performances of other actors.

I give this movie a 9 out of 10 a must watch for people who believe that Indian cinema is not dead yet and there are great film- makers who will deliver the best when ever they could

Blow
(2001)

Crime never pays.
Blow although based on the life of George Jung( the biggest cocaine dealer of 1970s) but its motto is age old concept of crime never pays.George Jung learned this and in a very hard way.

First word that came to my mind after i saw BLOW was amazing. The plot is extremely well set the story is moving n at a vey good pace. Johny Depp is one of the finest actor in the industry the way he portrays the character of an young outlaw is awesome. The way he moved the way he smoked really showed the efforts wat he put up to get into the character. Cruz although in a small performance convinces with her performance. But the thing wat i liked the most was the way the subject is handled Blow does not forces or imposes anybody to form an opinion its very emotional movie.George had his best time with all the money pouring in but he never got real friends in life .Everyone whom he loved betrayed him one way or the other even destiny.Characterization is truly great each n every character had his own way

ANother good thing about the movie was the way Ted Demme was able to capture the change of the generation and the environment over a span of time. overall a very impressive movie.

8/10

Speed
(1994)

Action thrill all happening at very high pace.
Speed this 20th century Fox presentation is different in one way .Its non stop.i saw this movie way back in my school days but still i love the movien for me its still fresh.Keanue Reeves justifies n fitted to the role in a best possible manner.

The movie can be divided broadly into three parts the elevator one, then bus and finally the train, but the bus sequence was the central theme. The biggest assets according to me what this movie has is its relevance to the common people.Reeves looked like a just another cop and Sandra bullock looked like a normal working lady this adds to the reality value of the movie.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
(1998)

So weird but so funny.
well if you this particular genre of humor then pick up your straws and suck it up.This guy,Guy Ritchie, is a genius he portrayed each and every character in the weirdest and funniest way. Tom,soap,Eddie and Bacon thinks of makin a fortune in a card game and end up owing 500 grands to a local goon leader and porn king ,Harry.they have 1 week to come up with the money so they decide to rob a local gang who in turn were planning to rob some Ganja growers. The story gets more complicated when a pair of double-barrelled shotguns gets missing and then its all with lots of guns fighting axe n more n more but its done in style and fun. While watching the movie you can't help it but you will start comparing Ritchie with tarantino. Ritchie's movies are definitely less violent then that of Tarantino's but they both give masterpieces and they do it in style and that is one thing which is so unique.. Another very big plus point of the movie is its groovy music .It goes perfectly along with the whole feel of the movie. i liked the way charcters were introduced thats what important each n every character was so clearly explained that you become an omnicient viewer and with all the humor the movie becomes a masterpiece overall the movie is amazingly brilliant...

The Butterfly Effect
(2004)

Good thinking nice idea but not great.
When i saw the tittle of the movie i thought its gonna be a sweet romantic comedy kind of movie. But the moment i started watching the movie it was very heavy the whole look and feel of the movie is very creepy and shaddy.I mean common in the movie not even a sinlge guy was happy all looked like pshyco to me. Movie starts with the childhood of Evan his childhood girlfriend andrea her brother and one another friend.Right from the beginning the movie sets its pace but the incidents were too heavy for me .like the drawing made by Evan then the dynamite case then Andrea's father's movie making scene then the theater scene i mean one after the other the list goes on.. But yes surely one important thing is the whole concept of the movie is very good the basic idea of going back to the past n making up the mistakes over then is nice.So here we have a good script then we come down to the execution part which according to me could have been better no need to make it such a feverish cinema .

Chasing Liberty
(2004)

Adapted ---but not up to the point
Wile watching the movie i could not resist comparing it with Roman Holiday at every moment. The movie's starting note is nice and promises you a great motion picture ahead but as we get along the story starts dragging and it becomes quite tenacious. Another negative point bout the movie is Mandy Moore, although she tried quite hard but she lacks the kind of innocence in her looks what was required for the movie. On the other hand Stark Sands did a good job.Iam still wondering what kind of CIA agents the President employed for her daughter all the time they cared more for their personel flirting rather than looking fo the First Daughter.

The situations in the movie are quite contrived and makes you feel as if you are watching a bollywood movie. But still apart from these drawbacks the movie has few strong rather positive points like the location sused in the movie are awesome camera work is good and goes along with the feel of the movie. overall a timepass movie but not completely satifactory 3/5

Monsoon Wedding
(2001)

You all are invited to my daughters wedding
thats exactly the feel what i got when i saw the movie. It was so young , lively, fresh energetic.......But so homely. Its been more than three years since i attended any marriage but when i saw this movie in my Hostel room away from my home it all came back to me.The good thing about the movie is that it makes you feel as if you are no different and you are a part of the family. Mira Nair captivated on the essence of Indian wedding , which is soooo beautiful, this lady has got the mettle and already she has proved it many times.another thing what i liked in the movie is it simplicity none of the scenes were exaggerated and they bring out the best human emotions on screen ,what a delight to watch. The movie represents the contemporary India

,just like any other family in the movie too they have their internal problemsIt was not a yash chopra genre movie where everything is perfect

huge sets n all and thats where Monsoon wedding sets itself apart. In the past few years after HAHK bollywood witnessed many marriage oriented movies but Monsoon Wedding is of a diff league A class cinema. 8.5/10

PS:- Its very nice to see that so many non indians are also taking interest in the movie.

Rounders
(1998)

Nice plot and fine characters
Rounder is a story about a talented Poker player (Damon)is driven back to the world of poker, which he left after loosing evrything in a big game, by his friend (Norton). the strong point of the movie is its screenplay and the dialogues they make you feel the enviroment and the kind of tension of a poker game. Norton is my personal fav but the character which i liked in the movie was KGB (Malkovich) he comes as a surprise element. Rounders is a fast pace movie with events happening all around after quitting the game of Poker Damon tries to stay away from it n in this process her girlfriend was the main motivation but he couldn't cheat himself for pretty long as later he discovers he must not waste his talent of poker and this drives him back. Another strong point of thye movie is its strong characters, the director is able to do judgement ot every character overall a nice and interesting movie to watch.8/10.

The Little Rascals
(1994)

one of the Cutest n Sweetest movie of all time.
Amazing , sweet ,little ,funny ,feel good cinema thats what "The Little Rascals " is all about .Quite amazing to see how small kids doing big deeds. The starcast is full of lovely kids and they make this movie a treat for the eyes to watch. The basic foundation of the Heman woman hater club shakes down when one of their member,Alfaalfa, falls for Darla and there it all starts the fight for Darla and the story moves ..... When the movie is over there is something which makes u feel good.Director penelope spheeris completely justifies the subject the movie needed a good screenplay and its brilliant in the movie. Overall a good delightful movie to watch.

Paycheck
(2003)

John Woo not playing up to the mark!!!!
Paycheck, starts in a good way and promises to be an ideal sci-fi thriller but just after the starting pace up the movie loses its nerve and drags itself into a confused action movie.Ben Affleck ,as an engineer,is okay could have been much better.Uma Thurman with very little scope in the movie plays her part well and looks good. But the main set back is John Woo he has delivered some good movies in the past but this time he turns all the hopes down.the second half races in between the streets with a weak storyline and even worst screenplay which turns the movie into a very routine one.**1/2

The Shape of Things
(2003)

in the end how does it matter?????
the shape of the things, starts in a very peculiar and an interesting way .Paul(Adam) is a confused and lonely guy and he meets this Damsel Evelyn (rachel) who changes her life by giving him some suggestions here and there.the movie advances as how Evelyn changes PAul's attitude about life his looks ,and even his relationships with his friends. When i was watching the movie all the time i was feeling sorry for Paul; coz Evelyn was running all over him .She even asks him to leave his frnds.....i mean that is too much to digest. But still y=the movie is really very convincing in terms of portraing the emotions of the characters on screen . it is very chrachter oriented movie with some nice performances . But still when u"ll walk out of the hall u"ll feel HOW DOES IT MATTER??????coz the movie is not moving around its just about four people and their relationship.but still a good direction and nice performances drives you along.
