Memento
(2000)

possibly my perfect film
What can I say - my fave film of all time. I sat down to watch with a few spare hours and a dose of flu. By the time it had finished and mates/hubby returned from pub, I was forced to grab them by the scruff of the neck and make them to watch it. The point of view is superb, giving us just a little more info with each scene, confusing the mind with a backwards timeline while suffusing the whole with a forward facing timeline shot through it, using black and white to delineate the "right" time line. If you guess the riddle before the final scene, you are obviously suited to working as a policeman, or maybe Hercule Poirot.

Each time I watch it I see another hint that I should have seen the first time, or the second, a detail that makes sense only now I know the answer. Gut pearce as our hero is superbly ethereal and really seems to make you feel what it would be like to make no new memories.

Now, where was I?

The 51st State
(2001)

good film for both boys and girls
superb film Robert Carlyle on top form as Felix - mucking up as is usual with his characters. entire cast do a grand job only disappointed at the lack of any swearwords from Ricky. A great Brit flick and one I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a film that appeals to both men and women - action and romance ( I know boys just grit your teeth)

Felix, though somewhat crude, is made a vulnerable character by Carlyle, and his on off girlfriend is played well. However the highlight of the film might well be Shawn Pertwee - a bumbling copper who might rival even Peter Sellars as Cleausau in doing it wrong. Mr Jackson is everything one would expect - a polished if slightly soulless performance.

The Irrefutable Truth About Demons
(2000)

well I liked it!
A group of us watched this, not expecting much from the bargain bin offering, but while it took a while to get going, we really got into it after a while, and the ending was great - is he mad or was it real??

Poor Harry - he has a lot going wrong with his life, and Karl Urban does a fine job in this classic B movie blood and guts fest. You will never see a live cockroach regurgitated so well.

If blood and guts isn't your thing, then I wouldn't recommend it - unless your a girl in which case its well worth watching just for Karl running around half naked for most of the film.

Not a great film, but does very well within its obviously small budget and the cast are great .
