  • The only reason to like it is if you wanted Culpa Mía Hygienized into oblivion.

The impression this movie gave me is that it exists only for 2 things:
    • Removing subs and bad dubbing (wouldn't making a good dubbing be easier?).

    • Make it more palatable to (mostly, but not only) Americans.

It's pretty much a not-so-good (but not terrible) "fix-it fanfic", its only value is as a subproduct of the Spanish movie/book. By itself, it's weak.

To me, the main problem is that the story is about angry/missplaced young people whose brains are still developing and hormones are still rioting, resulting into toxic/brainless actions. You remove that, you have nothing left.

In my opinion its biggest fault it's that the characters in London were so cleaned up they had no personality. They absolutely failed at replacing what they removed. And as a result, by removing what drove their reactions, plotholes appeared.

Judging by comments, there is also a very clear issue of context/understanding of the Spanish movie being lost. I don't know if it's bad translation, bad dubbing or cultural differences. But plenty of people mentions things about Spanish Noah and Nick as "not making sense" that as a Spanish absolutely makes sense. So I can see why this version, for them, is easier to watch.

Anyway, my point is that I can understand the changes and why they were done. Problem is that by removing the "heart" of the story and not replacing it with anything, the end result is mediocre.

As a movie by itself, it has nothing to recommend itself. It's selling point is that it's a "cleaned up" Culpa Mía. Its only good for people who already know the story and wanted a version more tailored to them. In short, 😂 it's a "fixit" fanfic. And if you don't know what a fixit fanfic is... Then you are probably nowhere close to being the target audience for either movie and you'll probably be much much happier ignoring both.

  • Entertaining but extremely mediocre

Whole movie tries too hard to be cool and fails constantly.

One example is the main character. They made it a good looking badass woman because it looks cool. But then failed spectacularly at writing her as an actual main character. *Embarrassing*

Let's not even talk about the token asian, the native-like and the black characters...

They should have stuck to doing what they know to do. It would look less of an incoherent mess. I know it would have looked more like any other movie... But certainly it would have been better than this failed attempt at being cool?

Action scenes entertaining but you know how they will go in advance. The only one you won't guess is the one they pulled a deus ex machina to save the day. So yes... You couldn't guess it... Because it was nonsense.

Slow motion... So you can better see how utterly unremarkable is most of what they are slowing down.

Leave your brain sleeping and watch for fun. Don't think to deeply about it. The more you think about it the more you notice how utterly bad it is.

  • Actually hilarious.

I was expecting another toxic "good girl falls for bad boy" romance like I've seen millions (what? I enjoy mt guilty pleasures...). I was in the mood for red flags galore and teenage/barelly 20 stupidity with a side-dish of misoginy.

But instead I found this crack movie and I'm really happy about this unexpected turn of events. Was it what I expected? Not at all... But I had a great time watching and laughed quite a bit.

Is it a masterpiece? Naaah, nor does it try to be. The movie doesn't takes iteself seriously, it's not pretending to be anything but what it actually is: a cliché plot twisted to be a comedy.
