Ticket to Paradise
(2022)

Predictable ok film
Everything is pretty predictable. The two parents arguing constantly is annoying and over dramatic. Lily and the guy are not very believable as a couple. I don't feel like there was enough to really make me believe they would get married and Lily would give up her whole life.. there was zero character or character development to them and the adults were just grown up children. How embarrassing for the pilot dating Julia Robert's character. A weak yes man.

The acting was decent and the scenery was nice. Kind of like a long commercial advertising Bali. It's worth a watch if there's nothing else on, but there's so many better movies in this genre like crazy rich Asians or my big fat Greek wedding.

Ready to Run
(2000)

Not terrible, but not good
Oh man, first off I am embarrassed for Jason Dohring for his role in this movie! His character is super cheesy. Like so many Disney movies, it starts off fine and then goes off the deep end. It can't just be a movie about a girl who wants to be a jockey and is especially talented at it, it has to turn into a talking horse movie. Everything was super predictable, the acting was mediocre, and the subject matter to me was just kind of boring to me. Also, even by 2001 standards, $5 seems way too low for a day working with horses. I am trying to think of something nice to say about the movie, but it was just meh. Not terrible, but not good.

Miracle in Lane 2
(2000)

Frankie for the win!
I am teetering between a 5 and 6 rating because this Disney channel original movie was far and away better than most of the ones that came before it, but some of the god scenes (especially at the end with the angels in wheel chairs) was kind of dumb and to me soap box racing is just kind of boring. But little Frankie Muniz is adorable and carried this movie. All the other actors are pretty decent as well. It's cool to this was based on a true story. This movie covered some heavy topics without getting too heavy. The brother dynamic was sweet though the actors were kind of obviously older than the characters ages they were portraying. Not the best movie, but it was a sweet story. I'd recommend a watch.

Stepsister from Planet Weird
(2000)

Maybe this movie is good on planet weird...
I'm going through watching all the old Disney channel original movies and this one was up next. I was actually looking forward to this one for some reason because I thought the title sounded interesting. Little did I know that planet weird wasn't just an exaggeration... I thought everything was going ok (even if the acting was a little sub par) until the big reveal (spoilers!). They are actually real aliens. There was clearly no budget for when they are in their alien form because it looked really dumb. I would've enjoyed this more if the father and daughter were just weird hippies or something! Do not recommend!

Rip Girls
(2000)

Decent for a Disney channel movie!
After watching ally cats strike, this felt like a breath of fresh air! It wasn't loud and in your face or trying to be cool, it was just a simple (and a bit predictable) story. The acting was decent for the most part. I'm not familiar enough with surfing or Hawaiian culture to know how accurately they were portrayed, but it all seemed mostly pretty believable. The over protective dad and the "but I'm 13 I'm practically an adult!" stuff is a bit over done. I'm sorry but I feel like a13 year old girl would know a little bit more about her mother and how she died. All the dad would have to say is "your mom died in a surfing accident, that's why I'm so scared for you to go surfing." Easy peasy!! Communication people! Anyway, it was better than most of the other Disney channel original movies leading up to this one, but I still have to score it a 5. A 5+! It's watchable, give it a shot!

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
(2022)

Definitely Weird
I mostly watched this movie because I am a Daniel Radcliffe fan versus a weird Al Yankovic fan. Calling this movie weird is definitely true and also an understatement. It started out pretty funny, I did not know that this was a parody, and so it took me a second to get on board with what they were doing. The scenes when he was a child and teenager were probably my favorite and some of the parts with Madonna were pretty funny. I wasn't really a fan of the more violent scenes. The wig Daniel is wearing is awful! Lol. I think this movie is still worth a watch. It's full of cameos and absurdity. It was just ok.

Alley Cats Strike
(2000)

Forgettable and predictable
Going through and watching all the Disney Channel original movies in order and this one was up next. Even though I am about the same age as the kids in the movie during that time, I would say nothing about this movie was relatable or realistic. We only know the most surface things about the characters and there us very little character development or conflict. It was fun seeing some familiar faces in this movie, especially a baby teen kaley cuoco (sp?)! Though her acting, along with everyone else's, was pretty dreadful. This felt super low budget and is totally a forgettable and predictable movie.

Disenchanted
(2022)

Disenchanted and disappointed
I've been waiting years for this to be released and even after seeing the trailers and knowing it probably wouldn't be the best, I still wasn't expecting this disaster. It started off ok-ish and then kept getting worse and worse and worse. The main plot of wishing for a fairy tale life and Giselle turning into a wicked step mother had potential, but as soon as the appliances started singing and dancing... oh man... the acting was ok for the most part, though Patrick Dempsey's fairy tale self was a little off. It works for James Marsden though. I think Maya Rudolf and her friends were a total mis-cast. The baby was super cute though! There was just absolutely nothing believable or endearing or special about this movie. And the takeaway of memories are the most magical thing or whatever makes no sense. Also why wouldn't Morgan just wish for things to go back to normal or to undo Giselle's wish? "I wish I were home with my mom" makes no sense. But it really shouldn't have worked for her anyway because she wasn't Andelasian (spelling?). Just because Giselle loves her like a daughter doesn't change that. If it did, then Morgan should've been fading away too. But the absolute worst I think was Giselle and Maya Rudolf's characters battle at the end. It was so bad and the cgi was bad. It was reminiscent of the wand battles in Harry Potter movies but looked even worse. Like way worse. Anyway, just dumb dumb dumb. Do not recommend. I'd give it a lower score but there were some ok parts and Amy Adams did a pretty good job despite it being a garbage story.

The Color of Friendship
(2000)

Tough to decide a rating
Normally I would probably give a movie like this a five because that's what I give movies that were ok but I wouldn't really want to watch again, which is true. But I'm giving it a little something extra because the acting wasn't too bad, I learned something new, and it wasn't as bad as all the other Disney channel original movies I watched before it! It's a little dated but also still relevant and it's interesting that it's based on real events I had never heard of. I noticed a lot of people mentioning discrepancies between the year this took place and some of the cars, monuments, records, etc. That would not have existed yet, but I didn't even notice or pay that close of attention I guess!

Up, Up, and Away!
(2000)

Maybe the worst?
Oh my goodness, this might be the worst movie I have ever seen. I am going through and watching all the old Disney Channel original movies and this one was next on the list. As soon as I saw the promotional picture for the movie I knew I was going to hate it. I almost didn't even watch it, but I thought I'd give it a chance. I think the only thing worse than the acting was the visual effects. This movie must've had a very, very small budget. It was just kind of a dumb little story and the take away line of you don't need a cape to be a superhero was a little generic and it was pretty disappointing that the kid didn't even end up getting super powers in the end. Also, it was really dumb their weakness is tinfoil. I don't know if even little kids would like this.

Genius
(1999)

I know, I'm not the target audience, but...
I am currently going through and watching all the old Disney Channel original movies in order and genius was next on the list. I had never heard of it before or seen it obviously and it was OK for the most part but a 30 something woman watching a movie about a middle school aged boy genius maybe just isn't the right combination. It was kind of funny seeing Charlie be Chaz. But haven't we all seen this kind of story a hundred times? At least it wasn't a switching places story or switching bodies or something. Just seemed like a lot of work just to trick some girl you've met once into liking you. Also I don't really understand why it was ok for the northerners to cheat and that nobody seemed to care that Charlie destroyed the ice rink. That has to have been $$$$$ to fix.

Don't Look Under the Bed
(1999)

Almost didn't even watch it
I'm trying to watch all the old Disney channel original movies in order and this was up next. I almost decided to skip it because I really didn't think I'd enjoy watching it but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I will say it was not as bad as I thought it would be most of the time, but it was still pretty bad. The whole idea of the boogeyman was just kind of weird and over-the-top with silliness. I did enjoy watching the relationships unfold between Francis and Larry, and between Francis and her little brother, but that was about it. It's a simple story for the most part, and it had a few interesting surprises and meaningful dialogue between siblings. I would definitely not be interested in watching it again and I struggle between giving it a 4 or a 5, but here we are .

Can of Worms
(1999)

This may be the worst movie I have ever seen
I am trying so hard to finish this movie to give it a fair chance, but this is extremely painful. I am trying to watch all the old Disney channel original movies and I had never heard of this one before. I was excited for a moment because I like Erika Christiansen from Parenthood and the kid that plays his friend from some episodes of Gilmore girls but the excitement ends there. All the "aliens"? Are SUPER ANNOYING!! Their voices are annoying and several of them are super disturbing to even look at with their too realistic eyes and mouths attached to weird puppety bodies. Please don't waste your time like I did!

Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century
(1999)

A loving 5 Because I am not the target audience!
I am currently watching all the old Disney channel original movies in order and it's Zenon's turn! In 1999 when this movie came out I was also a young teenager, but I'm not sure I ever saw this movie. Nothing about it felt especially memorable anyway. At first I was thinking this might be kind of like a Star Trek for kids, but nope!

I thought the acting was mostly fine and the young spunky kids were not terribly annoying. The little love stories were sweet. Overall storyline is meh. Harsh punishment from the parents, geeeeesh!

Some of the fish out of water stuff, bullying, and shenanigans felt a little forced and/or silly. I don't feel like the costumes/hair aged super well. It's supposed to be the future, but it feels very 90's. Also, Chelsea Clinton is president? That's so random!! Oh and I almost forgot!! All the future language stuff is annoying MAJOR! They kinda almost got viral right though...

If I were a kid watching this, I'd maybe give it a 7/10, but rated for me today I have to go with a 5/10. I have to say, I miss being crazy about boy bands!

Halloweentown
(1998)

Hard to decide on a rating!
Ok I am going through and watching all the old Disney channel original movies as an adult and I am obviously not the target demographic for these movies! Some of them I saw as a young teenager, but most I haven't seen before. Halloweentown is a movie I remember hearing about but not sure if I ever watched before.

I thought the story was simple and effective. Always nice to see a family working together! I donno if I missed why the dad wasn't around... it was cute seeing the younger daughter being so naive/unaware about what was going on around her. Acting was okay, special effects were pretty weak, make up was pretty good... all in all a cute Halloween time movie I think kids would appreciate more than me! Not too scary for them I think. Enjoy!

Brink!
(1998)

Definitely recommend for kids/teens
This movie came out when I was about 14 years old and I had a HUGE celebrity crush on Erik von Detten after seeing him in Leave it to Beaver! Now watching it 24 (yikes!) years later, I don't have the rose colored glasses on, but I have to say that it still holds up pretty well! I appreciate that they didn't try to cram in an unnecessary love story and that the story stayed focused on family, friendship, and skating (with some competition/bullying conflict thrown in). While not necessarily A+ acting, most of the characters were at least portrayed well by the actors. It is also family friendly and covers some important life lessons without getting into any heavy topics. My 6/10 rating to me means "it was good but not great and I would watch it again". 6-7 ratings are my most frequent ratings. I save 8 and up for my absolute favorites! Definitely recommend especially for kids/teens.

You Lucky Dog
(1998)

Ok for what it is
Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Fun seeing so many recognizable actors like the guy that plays Q in Star Trek, Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince, and even just extras I've seen from Gilmore Girls, Friends, etc. Kirk Cameron did a good job portraying his character pretty believably. The premise is kind of dumb and the family members are very stereotypical rich snobs. Just a silly little Disney movie! Still only a 5/10 though which to me is "okay, but probably will not watch again". I saw a list ranking all the Disney Channel's Original movies starting in 1997 and this was the earliest one I could find on Disney +.

Meet Cute
(2022)

Just couldn't get into it
I wanted to like it.. there were some cute moments but it was just too weird. It was like a sad ground hogs day time travel movie.

I think the actors performances were fine and fit the characters they were playing. The ice cream truck server was great. June the nail salon owner was great.

I guess with a name like Meet Cute I was expecting something a little different. I'm confused if we ever actually even saw when they first meet because I believe the first time we sees them it's their second night together.

I donno, time travel just gets messy. I didn't like the scenes where she goes back and kilos herself everyday either.

Nice attempt, just needed a little more.

The Witches
(2020)

Started off okay, and then...
It started off okay, and then once the witches gather in the ballroom, it just gets crazy and nothing really makes sense anymore. The CGI is pretty distracting, especially Anne Hathaway's weird ever stretching arms. I've never read the book or seen the original movie, so I had no idea what I would be walking into here. I don't understand why they wanted to stay mice either. For having a decent cast and director, I am surprised it got so bad.
