Evan Goes Wild
(2019)

Animal Planet's Excellent New Vet Show
Evan Antin DVM travels into some of the most remote parts of the world to interact with animals -- both familiar and exotic -- and the cultures that surrounds them. No fancy vet hospitals here! For a new series, I was amazed at its fluidity, his professional interaction with the filming crew and respect for their safety. The show is well-structured and definitely informative as Evan meets people all over the world who dedicate their lives to protect the wildlife of their countries. He certainly reinforces his reputation by People Magazine as the 'Sexiest Vet on TV'; OK, Evan is definitely handsome, but he has an inner- beauty that is demonstrated by his unabashed love and affection of animals.

Aptly Named!
This will have to be the Spring season 'sleeper'. The show addressed so many important subjects in such a manner that it all melded together and the hour was gone in an instant! Watch it and you will be quickly 'hooked'. Excellent start. Kudos to all who produced this new show!

The Cool Kids

Great Ensemble!
At last, a series addressing the ups and downs of aging with comedy, pathos and familiar faces. This show does it all with TLC!

A Million Little Things
(2018)

Amazing Stories Woven Into an Excellent, Mysterious Tapestry
To start off with a suicide that affects a close group of male friends along with their families and relationships may sound trite; but this eclectic ensemble has given the story-line the ability to morph into an intricate web of social relationships that expands far beyond it's initial premise. With its excellent directing, this seemingly unusual group of characters explores the full range of human emotions, frailties and triumphs that few shows can manage without losing their balance. This tapestry of this modern tale manages to unravel and re-shape its pattern with each episode. It has a solid core that takes the viewer on an emotional journey with a continuity rarely seen in network TV. As a seventy-four year old man, I look forward to this ensemble more and more with each episode: it touches the soul.

Gun Hill Road
(2011)

A Well-Balanced Mofango
I had heard buzz about this film; but personally it was hard to imagine how the talents of this combination of actors would gel. This production bravely walks a tightrope of emotions within a family, community and culture that without proper balance would have come off as trite, biased -- or worse: a mess of conflicting emotions. In some ways it reminded me of "La Mission" which had a similar theme but a different approach. How do you address the topics of machismo, trans-sexuality and role definition within any family -- let alone a Latino family faced with the pressures of a multi-faceted big city culture? The director, Rasheed Green, to his credit, gives the audience a time inside the minds of each of the characters; and by the middle of this 86 minute drama it was clear he had the right recipe. It reminded me of making "Mofango" -- a delicious PR dish replete with garlic, herbs spices and textures: if anything is out-of-balance, it throws off the entire preparation! This production has the right blend of all the ingredients.
