Highway
(2014)

Go for it only if you are an Alia Bhatt fan /
HIGHWAY review. S.P.O.I.L.E.R.S plenty. Enough warning has been given, so if at all you intend to see the movie in the near future, you better stop reading this right away.Coming to the point, Highway is basically a travel movie between a girl who is about to get married (Alia Bhatt) and a small time gangster. A lot of inspiration from the classic Tamil Movie GUNA, except that the heroine is much more cuter in the latest movie than the original one. The movie failed to convince me whether it was intended to be a realistic movie or a conventional unrealistic and cinematic flick, for it kept tossing between the two genres as per it's own convenience. For example, a scene where the heroine is left to run on the middle of deserted area without a slight hint of Background score did help intensify the scenario, well and good, but the following scene itself the gangster loads a pistol right behind a police check post and Aali Bhatt somehow manages to escape the eyes of four cops is utter crap. You either convince us with a realistic track or go totally unrealistic to entertain us. A red bull and a cold coffee helped me put through the drag of the first half even though the second half had it's lighter moments that made me sit till the end of credits.

I am not sure if ARR was paid fully or not, for the entire first half of the movie did not have a bit of re recording when it came to background scores. The second half managed to make up for the void in music created in the former with a few songs out of which the song by ARR himself comes during the credits. Seriously? ARR for a credits song? You got to be kidding me. Cinematography was stunning, with all the beautiful scenic locations, eye candy stuff, agreed, but my question is why would I spend on a movie ticket to appreciate nature's beauty? Planet Earth by BBC does a better job than this movie when it comes to catching the fine moments of mountains, rives, lakes and etc. Beyond all this, if there is one reason you want to see this movie, it can be only Alia Bhatt and her bubbly cuteness, even though I felt even she was trying too hard to prove that even she can act.

p.s: the sniper shot which takes down the main guy was brilliantly shot and I have not seen such a sniper hit even in games like COD OR Battlefield.

Aaha Kalyanam
(2014)

Just enough to make you hit the big screen.
Aaha Kalyanam was a decent watch. Too much of Bollywood essence though in a Tamil movie. (Not a big fan of the same). This is probably what happens when a Hindi Production banner tries to make a remake. More research could have gone in to suit the movie according to Tamil culture. If you are making a movie about marriages, detail to small things are very important which this movie failed to give miserably. Why are we made to watch a Tamil movie with so much of Hindi culture reference? Too many songs and how much longer are movies going to explore the same egoistic nature between a man and woman? Give it a break. Climax made up for the overall mediocrity of the movie. Go for it, if you have not seen the original Hindi version.
