The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
(2022)

World building on an epic scale!
Wow I have found this utterly compelling. So familiar and yet so new as the pieces of a jigsaw knit together in a history that we know will come to pass. The scale of the production is vast and it's clear money has been no object and I love the various new (and old) characters that you know will eventually meet up.

The Elves remain an aloof and mysterious bunch and just as how one would likely be given you can live for eternity.

The end of episode 4 was truly majestic with the cast doing a sterling job. It certainly pulled at my heartstrings.

For me this show has more the lived up to the hype! The lore of Lord of the Rings is so deep and complex that the transition to TV seems perfect as the story can be broken down into small interwoven sections. Saying that I'd be happy to binge the whole series!

Babylon
(2014)

So true its scary
I really enjoyed this comedy drama that poked fun at the police and the world of media and spin. The portrayal of Senior Officers was spot on. Most will do and say anything to avoid blame and operate in the world of hindsight. I thought James Nesbitt was great in the role and managed to bring a human touch to his role and rank. Brit Marling is also one to watch out for. Some great quotes through out the production and whilst everything was a little over exaggerated, I thought it caught the spirit of modern policing very well. Can't wait for a full series run as I think there is plenty more scope to develop the various characters from the pilot.

Skyline
(2010)

Make up your own mind
I have just watched Skyline and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Effects are very well done and for the reputed 10 million it cost to make them a bit of a bargain. I love anything sci-fi and this is a good portrayal of what would really happen if aliens invaded. No one here to hack into alien tech and save the planet. I really hope they do a sequel.

There may be plot holes and the dialogue a little chunky but I was grabbed by the sheer terror and sense of doom. Clearly the movie is very influenced by the Matrix but I can forgive that.

Watch it and make up your own minds but just consider the budget compared to the rubbish that can cost ten times as much.
