The Rookie: The List
(2023)
Episode 10, Season 5

"Leave it to a good guy with a gun"
Hollywood can continue to try to paint gun owners as idiots all it likes, but the fact is the majority of gun owners are responsible, law abiding citizens who respect law enforcement and the roles that they serve in our communities. The scenario they created in this episode was a typical caricaturization meant to make conservatives/gun owners look bad. Harper even went so far as to say "leave it to a good guy with a gun to mess things up".

They're ruining Nyla's character for a cheap talking point.

Besides that, haven't the writers of the Rookie figured out that the people watching cop shows are a lot of people that own guns? Keep writing this type of nonsense and they'll end up alienating a large part of their viewership.

Focus more on story telling and less on preaching at your viewers.

Purple Hearts
(2022)

I LOVED this movie.
I'm no pseudo/wannabe critic, so I'm not trying to give a detailed analysis of where this movie succeeds and where it fails. The standard metric by which I judge romance movies is how lonely I feel when it's done, and having just finished it, I am...very lonely lol.

Is this a perfect movie, no. But it is a very enjoyable one. I didn't watch it so I could see groundbreaking cinema that carefully avoided every known romantic trope or cliche. It has good acting, a fun story, and good chemistry between the leads. I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while.

The Batman
(2022)

I wouldn't change a thing, well..maybe one thing.
I came out of this movie completely satisfied in every measure. From the cinematography, to the soundtrack, to the writing, to the acting, to the directing. It was all so well done that after three hours, I was sad it wasn't longer. This is not a superhero film, it's a noir detective thriller and the emphasis on Batman's abilities as a detective and his incredible intelligence made me like the character more than previous versions we've seen. I wouldn't change anything about this film... Except for Selina's fingernails, those were weird.

The Tomorrow War
(2021)

Just plain enjoyable.
This movie is simply a good ol' fashioned, kill em dead alien movie. Enjoyed it from start to finish.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
(2021)

Stop reviewing the entire show off of the first episode.
Lots of low reviews after one episode. Complaints include that there's not enough action and that the main character's storylines are played out tropes. First of all, if you're really just looking for non-stop action, you have no business reviewing anything. Second of all, the first episode explored aspects of superhero universes that we haven't seen yet. Superheros struggling to make ends meet, and trying to make amends for things they did while literally being brainwashed. Show me where we've seen that before. How those are supposed to be played out tropes is beyond me. Be better, people. I'm just happy that Bucky finally has lines.

The Rookie: In Justice
(2021)
Episode 2, Season 3

Decent
There's a lot of shows that attempt to address current social issues these days. And to it's credit, the Rookie did a decent job. It definitely felt forced and cliche at points, but it wasn't totally one-sided. In my mind, there are two things that could and should be done. First of all, if you're gonna try to create dialogue. Actually create dialogue. Any time Nolan talked to the new character, James, he was never given a chance to really speak. It was as if James had the final say everytime even though half of what he said didn't even make sense. For example, when Nolan mentioned arresting the dealers that come into the park, James' response was "more black and brown people in jail". Then a moment later he told Nolan to solve the communities real problem by getting meth out of the neighborhood. How might they do that you may ask? By arresting the dealers. It seemed rather than creating a dialogue, they were more interested in a self-righteous monologue. They second thing they should do is to make Routh's character actually turn out to be a good guy. First of all, they've already done the racist white cop storyline. Second of all, having Jackson encounter another racist white cop is only going to make his character jaded against white cops.

Our Girl
(2013)

Stop at season 1
This rating is for season 1 only. Do yourself a favor and don't watch any further than that. They replace the main character, Molly, in season 2 and proceed to totally spit in her face later on. As far as I'm concerned "Our Girl" only has one season.

Outmatched
(2020)

It's funny
Rated 10 stars because it certainly doesn't deserve a rating as low as it's gotten. My actual rating would be 7.5 stars. The first episode was indeed funny. The low ratings are probably due to it being pretty much all clean humor and for some reason people can only comprehend dirty humor these days. I had actual, audible laughs several times throughout the episode. The acting was decent. Writing was good. Laughtrack was terrible of course. But the show is promising.

The Rookie: Manhunt
(2019)
Episode 15, Season 1

It's too bad...
This was a great episode. Exciting action, excellent pace, a likeable new character; everything you need for a great episode. It's just too bad the writers couldn't just write a good action show without slipping in some political propaganda. In this case, painting gunowners as idiots. Hollywood never ceases to dissappoint.

Whiskey Cavalier
(2019)

"Chuck" fan?
If youre a Chuck fan then this show will give you some major flashbacks. A spy team spliced together from different agencies to fight a common enemy. An enemy within. While its writing is not quite on par with that of Chuck, utilizing just a few too many cliches, there is plenty of room for improvement. Give it a try, it's an excellent addition to the much too sparse spy-dramedy genre.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said
(2019)
Episode 8, Season 6

Could've handled it much better
The thing that bugged me with episode the most was Amy and Jake's evident disregard for the entire premise of the American justice system, innocent until proven guilty. It sets a dangerous standard for police officers to be judge and jury before any evidence is even collected. I'm sure I'll be disregarded by most, but as important as the conversation on sexual assault is, the fight against it cannot be allowed to come at the expense of a fair justice system. This show is no stranger to sensitive subjects and in the past it has handled them well, but this episode was not done well. Also, the part where Amy was going over the misogyny that she deals with felt like a bit of a hollywood exaggeration. Just a bit contrived. But again, I'll probably be disregarded. Anyway, funny episode, but cringy at times.

Happy Together
(2018)

Better than it's given credit for
Give it a shot. Don't be critical. It's a funny show, good for some decent laughs. With a charismatic cast. My favorite new fall sitcom.

Cloak & Dagger
(2018)

Don't believe the ratings.
Cloak and Dagger is a good show so far. Don't believe the ratings. Most of them were one star reviews by bitter couch potatoes from before the show even aired. Other poor reviews at this point are only based off of the first two episodes, because people have zero attention span and need constant action to pay any attention. If you want an interesting story with good writing and acting, then give this show a shot. Yes, the first two episodes are a slow build, but it's better than being rushed, and the end of episode two promises an exciting third episode. I give this show a 7.5 through the first two episodes and it will only get better I believe.

The Brave
(2017)

Well-Written, Well-Acted
The Brave is entertaining. Whether you like military dramas or not, whether you're one to get hung up on the details, wether you're hyper-critical or not. It is, at its core, an entertaining show. It's written well, and in a way that makes you love the characters almost immediately. Every episode is jammed full of believable action sequences that get your blood pumping. It steers clear of clichés and manages to be unpredictable. If you want to watch a good military drama, this is it. It has a lot of life left in it and it was cancelled far too early. This is a show that I would have been content to watch for many more years.
