The Gentlemen
(2024)

Sort of a British Breaking Bad
8 Stars ⭐ March 12 2024

If Braking Bad was set in the aristocratic UK. They even got Giancarlo Esposito. It has potential to become a huge series. I hope it is not being cancelled anytime soon. But by being a Netflix production anything bad can happen. I was never a fan of Guy Richie's movies and my opinion about Netflix is very low so I was very surprised by how good it was. The humour was spot on, and all those plans backfiring remembered me of Jesse and Walter.

I really enjoyed this series but I need to watch they thriving in the future, though. And a little bit of romance would not hurt anybody.

Rosaline
(2022)

Modern And Refreshing
6⭐s

Rosaline was a modern and refreshing take on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" with overall great acting, good directing, stunning costumes, and beautiful sets and locations. Kaitlyn Dever delivered such a compelling and amusing performance as Rosaline, I would love to watch a more serious and mature version of this film with her as the main character. Even though the screenplay was extremely modern-day in tone, it was also both astoundingly satirical and witty. If this movie was made in the 2000's, it certainly would have been a big hit. I am quite sure teens and young adults (intended target audience) will still enjoy their time watching it.

About Fate
(2022)

About Fate or 'Cheating'
3.5 ⭐s

August 13(14), 2022

This movie was a disaster. The plot was so unrealistic. There were so many cringeworthy situations. In order to enjoy it you have to employ lots of suspension of disbelief. They were cute together but the 'cheating' didn't sit well with me because he was with another girl on day he was supposed to propose to his girlfriend. All the nonsensical happenstance to justify him falling in love with another woman didn't nullify the fact he was essentially a cheater.

The supporting cast's acting was bad. Madelaine Petsch was ok and Britt Robertson was unrecognizable. However, Emma and Thomas were really good, especially Thomas who I haven't known before (I'll be checking more of his stuff). They had great chemistry and great comic timing. I would have preferred to watch only the two of them for the whole 1h40m.

P. S. I don't know why but IMDb keeps deleting my reviews, this is the second one I've written about this film.

Look Both Ways
(2022)

Sweet, heartwarming and definitely better than I expected
7.5 ⭐s August 20, 2022

I went fully expecting that it was going to be another miss Netflix rom-com but NOOOO... It was way more than a simple light cheesy chick flick. Even though I am not a fan of this style of parallel narrative and understand why it was made that way, I ended up enjoying this movie a lot. Look Both Ways was really good, funny, light, heartwarming and sweet. Lili had such a great chemistry with both Danny and David-solid performances from the three of them. You can literally choose them 😂. I have to confess that I would have loved even more a third way or a hybrid of the two ways yet I was happy with its ending.

Purple Hearts
(2022)

Bad and not believable
It's bad! Netflix needs to stop doing this horrible cliché romances. The acting was bad. The songs were bad. The plot was weak. The buildup of their relationship was totally unrealistic and not believable. They barely had chemistry. Sofia Carson should try doing something different for once. Nicholas' performance was decent. I don't know what's the purpose of doing a movie like this one. I guess if you care only about the happy ever after you gonna like it. I like the whole package and this movie is just an 'empty shell'. I am still perplexed that I watched until the end.

The Hating Game
(2021)

Faithful and Charming Adaptation
I am sure if you are a fan of the book you will be satisfied with this quite faithful and charming adaptation. The acting was average. The final product was a cliché rom-com but well-made with it was clearly a small budget. Surprisingly, I think they did a decent job with the material because I enjoyed it more than the original. It was still childish, cringy, and of course all the parts I hated made it to the movie but were less annoying than when I read the book.

The Dropout
(2022)

Bad as the Woman they Portray
I tried for almost 2 full episodes until that scene where she started to scream 'I get the fudging money' and I could not watch anymore. Amanda looks too old to portay such a young woman and she is not that good of actress. As a biomedical scientist myself, I thought it was so bad and inaccurate, and especially annoying.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
(2022)

Cliché Teen Drama
It was cliché. The acting was terrible and laughable. Lola was the only with a good performance. The boys were faraway from handsome or heartthrob material. The mothers were so cringy. The episodes were boring. Season finale was the only worth watching. Although, I did not enjoy much of it, the debutante ball dynamic was interesting, they should have explored more of it. It was clear that they had a tight budget.

The Great
(2020)

Good but NOT Great YET
Season 1 - 6.5 ⭐s July 18, 2022

The Great started really good but it fizzled out very quickly. Elle Fanning is an excellent actress but still has so much room for improvement. The cast performance was pretty average and some even mediocre, and they could not keep up with her, unfortunately. My thoughts about Peter was summarized by Catherine: cruel, thoughtless, tender, entertaining, and bizarre and I was also found of him because Nicholas Hoult is a fine actor and was able to portrait all these traits. Despite all the last episode was great and I see potential for the next season.

Endnote: This show seems more like a HBO show on 'roids.

--------------------------------------------------------

Season 2 - 5 ⭐s 19 July, 2022

I was expecting more of it compared to the previous season but it did not improved at all or declined too much. It was mostly stable. Although I thought it was a waste of money all the settings, costumes and whatnot in season 1, seeing as season 2 was way down on budget it was really sad. The locations, some sets and the animals were poorly digitally made it.

The cast's performances were the same, however, Gillian Anderson's was amazing.

Its last episode was so weird because I really like Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult chemistry. I can not see where they intend to go with the story after it. If I was not in a slump of boredom I am not sure I would have finished it. I think I will probably be watching season 3 even though I was not satisfied with how the show went on or ended.

The White Lotus
(2021)

Horrible Show about Awful People
This is my second review because the first one was deleted by IMDb. This series was terrible but if you like this type of show you will enjoy it. The acting was the only thing that salved it, especially Alexandra Daddario's performance.

The satirical tone was laughable. It had great coloring and some good shots but the soundtrack/score were too loud.

It gave me only bad feelings watching it and I only finished because I wanted to know who had died.

Persuasion
(2022)

Funny Comedy
7.5 ⭐s If you're a fan of the book this isn't for you, that's for sure! Dakota shined on-screen, what a performance-even though her British accent was half-assed. The story wasn't a romance at all, but the comedy was great. This one was a movie of acting and nothing more.

Amadeus
(1984)

An Ode to Haters who are Truly Fans
I watched the Director's Cut so it was quite long but I enjoyed it immensely. I would say it has Three Acts in it: Salieri Solo, Mozart Solo and Salieri & Mozart-they together was a performance to behold. The actors were astounding! Both were able to translate amazingly the mad genius and the bitter jaleous hater/fan or rival. I wish they could both have owned an Oscar.

The movie was spectacular. Nowdays they don't produce films such as this one. Real cinema. Direction, screenplay, acting, cinematography, costumes, locations, score and soundtrack were absolutely wonderful.

P. S. I loved Mozart actor's laugh!!!

The Bear
(2022)

Too loud but has great potential
The Bear was too 'loud', annoying, and immature but has great potential. The episodes improves exponentially culminating in a very good season finale. My favorite part was the food/kitchen dynamic, I wish they have explored more of it. I was not a huge fan of the directing approach but the acting was really good. Kudos to the lead actor's 'final' monologue. I think this series without the Richie character would have been way better.

The Gilded Age
(2022)

Wonderful Show
Season 1 - July 11, 2022

10 ⭐s

I loved it! It has been a long time since I enjoyed myself this much watching a TV show. The Gilded Aged might not be historically accurate but it was amazing. The costumes were to die for. The cast was incredible-well except for Maryl Streep's daughter, she was the weakest link in the casting, honestly, I don't understand why they keep insisting on her daughters they are all mediocre. I can't wait for season 2.

Succession
(2018)

Horrible
I wasted a hour of my life on this incredible bad TV Show. The acting is not that good to pull off they being awful people and interesting at the same time. I have a theory if the pilot has not the means to grab my complete attention the rest of episodes will just follow suit.

The Batman
(2022)

Afraid for nothing
7.75 ⭐s

I was afraid to watch for nothing because it was good. Ben Affleck scarred me for life with his Batman! However, Pattinson lived up to the role, coming as a second on my Best Batman Actors List-right after Bale. Zoë is the best Catwoman that I've ever seen. They had great chemistry. Although their performances were very good this movie it all about the direction. The director made a great job with the angles, shots, and colors. The screenplay was also well written and developed. The romance and chemistry between Robert and Zoë was amazing, it is the first Batman movie to achieve this imo.

Everything Everywhere All at Once
(2022)

Too Allegorical
6.5 ⭐s I've been postponing this one for awhile but finally got to watch it. I thought Everything Everywhere All at Once had a nice concept, a really meaningful message, sublime acting performances but it was just too allegorical for my taste. It was also very long and sometimes boring. I like when are movie is so good that even though I don't like its genre I love the final product which here was not the case. Unfortunately my expectations were very high and they're not fulfilled.

House of Gucci
(2021)

Not as bad as I was expecting
6.5 ⭐s Since its release I have been postponing to watch it because of the bad reviews I saw but I thought it was not that bad. The performances were very caricatured, however, the actors were terrific and could pulled it off. I also saw evolution in Gaga's performance. I was entertained most of the time so I can complain much.

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi
(2001)

Weird but endearing
I liked but also thought it was weird. The chemistry between Chihiro and Haku was endearing as well as her other friends. I am not a fan of this animation style. I find a little disturbing and weird but I can see why people loved, it contains and evokes more emotions than others.

The Sex Lives of College Girls
(2021)

7.5🌟s Good and Solid First Season
12/11/21 - First season was good and funny, also discussed important topics. Better than expected. A improved version of Never Have I Ever.

-----------

Spencer
(2021)

6.5 🌟s - A Good Movie
Storywise there isn't much as Diana's history has been done so many times by now. However, I liked the Christmas holiday approach better as one would believe it's a time for family and happiness and in this case wasn't even close.

'Spencer' was a depressing, moody, chaotic and melancholic as Diana was believed to be in life. Kristen Stewart had a performance of a lifetime. She sure had her usual acting mannerisms but there were times she was a completely different person, so much so, it was eerie.

About the technical aspects of it, I loved the set locations, directing, color schemes, (spot on) costumes and especially its cinematography that was extremely beautiful. I would bet this movie has real chances at the Oscars' acting and technical categories.

Red Notice
(2021)

Bad, Terrible Actually
I gave 2 stars because I love Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds. Otherwise, this movie would be completely trashy and unbearable. I spent the whole movie with my eyes rolling. The visual effects were bad, like seriously bad, cheap and poorly executed. Not even the acting was good. I believe the plot twist was supposed to be clever but I saw it coming within its first minutes. Surely this movie was made for kids or else, there is not another possible explanation.

Love Hard
(2021)

1.5 🌟s - bad
Nina's character was a hypocrite and difficult to bear. I know it was the message of the movie, I just guess I am not a target for this kind of movie. Jimmy O. Yang' performance was endearing and the reason I have finished it.

Holidate
(2020)

Bad
It was bad and cliché. Emma is awesome but not even her could save this movie.

I don't remember when I watched it, perhaps last year or maybe the begging of this one. It was that bad.

The Royal Tenenbaums
(2001)

Unconventional, incredulous, crazy, strange, weird, insane, nonsensical, unbelievable, shocking and not my style at all
I could not believe that I wanted to watch this movie and I do not understand how I was able to get to its ending. I spent the whole time trying to figure it out if they were mocking, being sarcastic or really serious but I guess this was the purpose of the movie. Sadly, it is not my favorite type of humour or drama, as a matter of fact.

At the end of it, they were a bunch of lunatics but I have to admit they were unique and certainly memorable.
