Yu wo wakasuhodo no atsui ai
(2016)

Powerful film that leaves viewers with great emotional impact
This is a great film, showcasing how strong a woman and a mother can be. This is a story of an extremely mentally strong woman who has touched the lives of people around her some close, some not so.

I have managed to watch this film as part of the film festival in Sydney and this was the movie that I was most emotionally felt and touched. This film made me remember my mother who was as equally strong mentally and supported me and my siblings alone. was hard to hold back my tears. Not just me, the other audience must have felt too as I heard a few people crying.

Not only she, herself is strong, but she also showed the others in need how to get stronger and supported the people around her. The people in turn supported her when she was in need of their help. And they are so willing to do anything for her.

This is a film about family struggles, undying toughness when faced with adverse reality, the importance of the care, love and support of loved ones. Very aptly titled film - her love is so strong and heated that it can even boil water.

Karera ga honki de amu toki wa,
(2017)

Heart-warming and Touching Story
Close-knit is a heart-warming story about a girl being devoid of motherly love, taken in by her uncle family, where she met a rather different person, a transgender woman, who was living together with her uncle. It was then she had the experience of what's it's like being in a normal family, being taken care and showered with love that she has never felt before.

Ikuta Toma threw in a superb performance, different from the usual cool and handsome lead actor roles, playing as a transgender woman. Same goes for the child actor who played as a girl who put up a tough front towards everyone around her as she has no one else but herself to rely on. Nonetheless, she is still being a child emotionally vulnerable and yearns for affection.

There were a few tear-jerking and touching moments that you can't help but feel for the characters. This film strives to show that there are different types of people in the world and for them, having the courage to accept themselves as well as having the support of loved ones around them will make a difference in their lives. And That love can come in different forms and that they are beautiful in their own ways.

This film was shown as part of film festivals across several countries.

Kiseki: Anohi no sobito
(2017)

Must watch for "GReeeeN" Fans. A good introductory film about popular masked dentist-singer band
"GReeeeN" is a popular Japanese band who rose to fame 10 years ago (2007) with a hit song "Kiseki" which is still popular as of now.

This film tells the story of how the band come into place - struggles of juggling with family's expectations and own's interests or dreams. When hitting a road block in chasing your dreams, should you keep fighting or give up. There's always an option and which path would you take, how your friends, families, lovers influence you along the way.

I myself is a GReeeeN fan, so my review might be biased, but I am sure there's something anyone can take away from this film. It's inspirational and motivational for those chasing a dream and making it work.

Slow-pace, but worth the build up and story development
This film was introduced in a number of international film festivals and I saw it during one of them and glad I did. It started slowly with main character Tanaka, journalist, (Satoshi Tsumabuki) carrying the story line forward by interviewing different people involved in a murder case. It's easy to miss some plot lines as a lot of characters were introduced one by one, especially with the names and flashbacks. I think that's the film's direction as it leaves the viewers to connect the dots on their own progressively, dropping hints here and there. As others have suggested, recommended to watch second time as some of the earlier scenes will make sense. I myself came out from the cinema questioning myself why and how, trying to make sense some of the plots. It is one of the best crimes, thriller movies worth the watch for those who enjoy the genre.

Both Satoshi and Hikari Mitsushima (female lead) threw in some of the best performances. I am well familiar with those two and quite enjoyed some of their previous films. They played some of the difficult scenes really well.

Please give it a watch, anyone who don't mind the slow pace and story gradually unravelling up to the final climax. For reference, this film is first feature length film from director Kei Ishikawa who studied film directing in Poland on government scholarship.
