[angry3]FAVORITE DIRECTORS:
Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola & John Hughes.
FAVORITE FILM COMPOSERS: [clap]
James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Maurice Jarre, Elmer Bernstein, Basil Poledouris & Graeme Revell.
[cool] FAVORITE ACTORS:
Clint Eastwood will ALWAYs be the man! Fun to watch; Robert DeNiro is an excellent actor; Bruce Willis is the man! If someone told me 'David Addison' was going to make a big splash in something called 'Die Hard' and become a mondo-movie superstar over the next 20+ years, I never would have thought it!; Mark Wahlberg. If someone told me 15 years ago that 'Marky Mark' would be an Academy Nominated actor someday, I never would have believed that either!
FAVORITE ACTRESSES: [blush]
Lately it's been Rachel McAdams, the gal’s got talent. Charize Theron's terrific too. Her role in "Monster" still has me a bit shook up. Meryl Streep's pretty darn good in every movie I've seen her in. Sigourney Weaver's got game. There's something about a woman in a red dress [wink] with high heels who's possessed by Zuul and commands the minions of Gozer! - Jennifer Love Hewitt comes accross as beautiful, professional and pleasant. I dig that! :)
[bounce]A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A DIRECTOR RE-VISITING HIS WORK:
"Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut" is a new film altogether. It's the same premise, re-worked. Original director Richard Donner was let go by the film's producers and another director re-wrote and re-shot most of the movie. As much as possible, the film is re-constructed from six tons of negatives, of what Donner originally shot, to complete Donner's planned version of "Superman II". This version restores 75% of the intended vision. It's a dramatically different movie in craft, some scripting, tone and execution. You can tell that Donner WAS making a better movie to begin with. If only he was able to finish this film to completion, his way. -- Also restored in this cut are the legendary Marlon Brando scenes (the theatrical version replaced these scenes with actress Susannah York).
A BAD EXAMPLE OF A DIRECTOR RE-VISITING HIS WORK: [angry1]
"The Outsiders - The Complete Novel". Director Francis Ford Coppola added some footage back to the film. Unfortunately, the film's pacing is now severely compromised. The original music score, beautifully done by Carmine Coppola (the director's father), is mostly dropped. Carmine's original score really added to the 'timeless' effect for the film and helped make the movie a memorable classic. Without it, "The Outsiders" comes across as "just average". That's really too bad . . . [sad7]
[hairrise] MY AMATEUR FILMMAKING:
I've directed and co-produced a series of movies involving the same group of friends over the years. The first movie "Black River Falls" tells about a group of young people, in their late teens and early twenties, who travel to a charismatic friend's cabin during the Fourth of July weekend. The group consists of college students, returning military and those already in the workforce. During their celebration, they share their hopes & dreams while cliff jumping, partaking in water sports, enjoying campfires, music and drink. The movie came across as 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' crossed with 'The Blair Witch Project'! Since the first "Black River Falls" feature became a surprise hit, many sequels have been made that are pretty funny. FACT: While shooting a stunt for one of the sequels, 'BRF: The Everclear Menace', I was almost decapitated! While blowing up a toaster with a quarter-stick of dynamite, a piece of shrapnel flew about 100 feet and missed my head by inches as I was filming (this was never attempted again in future 'BRF' movies). To my knowledge, my underground movies have been viewed as far east as South Carolina and New York and as far west as California and Washington State to positive buzz. I call the genre of the pictures 'the docu-comedy' . . .
TELEVISION SHOWS: [eyes]
I'm usually not into TV. Maybe occasionally, do I catch something.
However, if I had to put something here, I did enjoy the first three 'Star Trek' series:

DOCUMENTARIES: [cool1]
[hat] BOOKS:
"Proverbs". Hey, wisdom is wisdom! I think it transcends denominations and belief systems. Ya got nothin' to lose!

If you're looking for light witty satire, check out "The Onion". IMO, the two best books by "The Onion" folks are:
- "Dispatches From the Tenth Circle" and "Homeland Insecurity".
- For More About: 'The Onion':

For a good 'graphic novel', I recommend 'Batman: The Long Halloween'. [evil9]

RADIO: [tongue]
I prefer talk radio. Hey, it's a big world out there! I like to know what's goin' on! I listen to the conservatives and the liberals. It's good to know what's going on both sides of the fence. Everything from a local Christian talk show to "Rush Limbaugh", "Shawn Hannity", "Dave Ramsey" and "Coast to Coast" (Art Bell can never be out done though). When I'm in the Madison, Wisconsin area, I check out "Sly: The Mid-Day Maverick" on WTDY 1670 AM - a.k.a. 'The Pulse' (I interned on Sly's show as an assistant producer a while back). The world is anything but DULL!
[jump2] CDs:
From Metallica to Pure Moods. From Van Halen to the soundtrack to 'Grease'! How's that for diverse? Usually, I listen to more movie soundtracks. Lately, it's been the score for the 'Star Wars' film 'Revenge of the Sith' (2005) by John Williams with The London Symphony Orchestra.
LIVE MUSIC: [wild]
Pink Floyd was the best concert I ever saw! No other concert I've been to can hold a candle to this show! Amazing stage and laser light show. Great mix of music. - Also, while I was going to art school, I worked a 'U2' show. It was the 'Zoo TV' tour at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, WI. The crowd in front of me suddenly completely freaked out. I turned to look behind me to what was the fuss and Bono was there standing at arms length from me! He then proceeded to the stage. Very memorable!
[cheers] RECOMMENDED BREW:
Hey, I AM from Wisconsin after all! I’m generally not a drinker. Occasionally, I like to have a descent brew. I’m a fan of Paulanner Octoberfest, Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten Mai-Bock (or as Cousin Scotty calls it "Spaten Mind-Block"! [laugh]). When visiting Madison, Wisconsin USA, two good places for excellent brew-ha (if you drink too much you will go "Ha, ha - HAAAH! [misc1]) are The Essen House and The Great Dane ('Stone of Scone' is my fave here. Currently, the 'Velvet Hammer' brew is darn good!). Both have great food and are definitely worth a look if you're passing through!
MOST MEMORABLE MILITARY MOMENT: [clap]
Meeting President Bill Clinton. He came onboard my aircraft carrier to congratulate us on our mission to Haiti. We delivered the Army’s 10th Mountain Division and one of the U.S. ambassadors to Haiti for Operation Restore Hope. Three weeks later, The President held a press conference in Hangar Bay Two on our ship. Afterwards, he met some of the servicemen. I stuck my camcorder in his face and asked him to greet my parents. He did so by name as he shook my hand. [smile] I had only been in the Navy nine months at that point and was only a little ‘Seaman Recruit’ (E-1) at the time. It was definitely a ‘Forrest Gump’ moment for me! Where I grew up, it was dairy farms and corn fields!

FAVORITE PLACES: [wave]
My cabin in NORTHWESTERN WISCONSIN. Fifty miles south of Lake Superior, it's on a small woodland lake and secluded. My father was a professional carpenter. He built the cabin before I was born. I learned how to swim, fish and canoe there. Around New Year's 2007, my father passed away after losing his battle with a rare muscle degenerative disease. I've never before experienced sorrow on this level. [sad6] He was laid to rest at a cemetery four miles from the cabin. He was one of my best friends. So my visits to the cabin are all the more special to me now and forever will be.
BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA, CANADA -- Wow! What a place! BNP is located @ 70 miles west of Calgary in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. Truly one of the most beautiful (there's that word again) places I've ever been. To date, I've been privelaged to visit Banff three times. I even honeymooned there. It's awesome!
NORWAY -- I have family outside of Stavanger living in the fjords. Warm people and an enchanting country-side. In the summer time, Norway truly is the 'Land of the Midnight' sun! It's still twilight at 2AM! So beautiful there. It's been far too long since my last visit!
ISRAEL -- What an amazing place! I visited there while serving on an aircraft carrier. I enjoyed it very much! I got to visit Capernaum, Nazareth, the church where Christ turned water to wine, walk in the Jordan River and have dinner at the Sea of Galilee. The scenery was astounding and there's so much history. Easily my favorite country in the Mediterranean Sea followed by Spain & Greece.
WESTERN MONTANA -- Wow!!! Geographically the fourth largest state, yet the 47th most populated out of the 50! Roughly 900,000 people for the entire state! I lived a four hour drive to Glacier National Park and, in the other direction, a two hour drive to Yellowstone National Park. Loved the mountains, rivers and lakes. Leaving Montana was hard to do . . .
[giveup] ABOUT MY IMDb MONIKER (What does it mean?):
. . . ~ MC2 "The reservist formerly known as JO2" . . .
- My U.S. Navy title is "MC2". That is Navy shorthand for Mass Communications Specialist (the 'MC' part) Petty Officer 2nd Class (the '2' part). The Navy Mass Communication speciality is a merger of four Navy jobs: Journalist (JO), Photographer's Mate (PH), Lithographer (LI) and Draftsman (DM). Previous to the merger, I was a "JO2" which was 'Journalist Petty Officer 2nd Class' (or Journalist 2nd Class).
When I originally created an account here on IMDb, the first part of my e-mail address became my 'User ID'. I didn't mean for my Navy title to become my IMDb moniker. Though my moniker is unintentional, I'll continue to enjoy the anonymity it provides for me. - That's how it happened.

- As a lifelong movie fan, I first discovered IMDb @ 1997 and used it strickly to read up on movie facts and statistics.
- In 2005, I created an IMDb account so I could read the message boards to learn more about films, and film rumors, from the forums.
- By February 2007, I finally decided to get in on the chats and start posting here.

- 'The Next Generation' (TNG) (1987-1994)
- 'Deep Space Nine (DS9) (1993-1999)
- If I catch a news-talk type thing, I'll go with "Hannity and Colmes". I like the way those two guys go at it!
- "The O'Reilly Factor" is a goodie too!
- "Nature" on HD PBS.
- I recently checked out "Battlestar Galactica - Season Three" in the DVD boxset. Great cliffhanger! [yes]
- "Rock of Love 2 with Bret Michaels" is good for a laugh . . . [laugh]
[yes] MINI-SERIES:
- 'Band of Brothers' (2001) was simply amazing. Every segment was brilliantly crafted.
- 'Battlestar Galactica' (2003) actually surprised me by it's writing & overall quality. Very human and truly unique.
- 'V' (1983) & 'V: The Final Battle' (1984) were both fun in a dorky/goofy kind of way.
- 'Lonesome Dove' (1989). Sometimes a good western is just what the doctor ordered!
DOCUMENTARIES: [cool1]
- 'The Case for Christ' (2007) - Inspired by the book of the same name. Very compelling. Makes a strong and valid argument. Definately worth a look! [aura]
- 'Carrier' (2008) - A thorough ten part documentary about the lives of the sailors serving onboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz CVN-68 during a six month deployment at sea.
- 'Super Size Me' (2004) Very shocking. If this film doesn't stop and make you think twice about going to Mickey D's, then I don't know what would!
- 'The War' (2007) Amazing World War II documentary. I caught it on HD PBS and was completely enthralled.
